Itinerary
Imjingak Peace Park is the symbolic gateway to the DMZ and a place that offers deep insight into the Korean War. Here, you’ll see important historical sites such as the Freedom Bridge—once used by around 13,000 refugees seeking freedom—as well as Mangbaedan, where North Korean defectors pay tribute to their hometowns. You’ll also view the Jangdan Station steam locomotive, which was used to transport military supplies during the war.
[Optional] Explore exhibits showcasing everyday life in North Korea and watch a short documentary about the country. Then, hear a North Korean defector share their personal escape story, followed by an interactive Q&A session where you can ask questions and gain deeper insights into life in North Korea.
Mangbaedan is a memorial altar built for people who were separated from their families during the Korean War. Since they could not return to their hometowns in North Korea, they used this site to bow toward their ancestral homes. It is still visited, especially during traditional holidays, by those wishing to honor their families.
The Third Tunnel is one of the most well-known sites in the DMZ. Stretching 1,635 meters long, 2 meters wide, and 2 meters high, it was secretly built by North Korea as an invasion route into South Korea. The tunnel is large enough for an entire military division to pass through at once and was designed to transport troops, weapons, and ammunition. Remarkably, it was excavated using only basic tools and dynamite and was discovered in the 1970s following information from a North Korean defector.
Dorasan Observatory offers a rare opportunity to observe North Korea from a distance. From this mountaintop observatory, you can view parts of North Korea, including the Kaesong Industrial Complex, a propaganda village near the massive North Korean flagpole, and buildings in the Joint Security Area on clear days.
Unification Village is the final stop of the DMZ tour. Established in the 1970s with government support, the village was originally created as part of international propaganda efforts. Its structure was inspired by Israel’s kibbutz system. Today, around 400 residents live here, most of whom work in agriculture.
Freedom Bridge is a historic bridge located in Imjingak, built after the Korean War. It was used by prisoners of war returning to South Korea during the armistice period. The name “Freedom Bridge” reflects their return from captivity. Today, the bridge remains as a symbol of the division of Korea and the events that followed the war.

Great experience with Bill Hwang. There was good coordination before the tour and Bill gave clear instructions. He’s a responsible guide who accompanied each step of the way and gave life to the tour. Much better experience with a small group compared to larger ones which are impersonal.
Hello, this is One Universe Trips. It was truly a pleasure having you on the tour. We were very happy to spend the day with you. We hope to have the opportunity to see you again in the future. Thank you so much!
We had a great time on our DMZ tour, and Bill was a big reason why. He was super knowledgeable and shared tons of interesting facts and stories throughout the day that made the experience much more engaging. You could tell he really knows his stuff and enjoys what he does. One thing we especially appreciated was how many photos he took for our group. It was nice being able to enjoy the tour without constantly worrying about getting pictures ourselves, and he made sure everyone got some great shots. Bill made the whole process easy, organized, and fun from start to finish. He kept the group moving smoothly, answered all of our questions, and brought a great energy to the day. If you’re thinking about doing a DMZ tour, we’d definitely recommend going with Bill!

Our guide Bill Hwang was extremely knowledgeable and super informative throughout the entire tour. There wasn’t a single dull moment with Bill and he made the tour very enjoyable. The tour was totally worth the money and I would book it again with Bill in a heartbeat. My group and I had a great time and learned a lifetime’s worth of knowledge.

This was an excellent DMZ tour and one of the highlights of my trip to Korea. The small-group format made a huge difference compared to larger bus tours. With fewer people, there was plenty of opportunity to ask questions, interact with the guide, and really engage with the history and significance of the DMZ. Our guide, Bill Hwang, was outstanding. He was incredibly knowledgeable, engaging, and passionate about the subject matter. He did a great job explaining the history of the Korean Peninsula and providing context at each stop. I especially enjoyed the unique focus on the two contrasting JSA crossing stories, which added a personal and thought-provoking perspective that I haven’t seen offered on other DMZ tours. The itinerary was well organized, and highlights such as the 3rd Infiltration Tunnel, Dora Observatory, Imjingak Peace Park, and Unification Village were fascinating. Bill kept the tour informative while also making it enjoyable and easy to follow. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Korea, especially if you’re looking for a more personal experience and a guide who truly brings the history to life.

The DMZ tour led by Bill Hwang was a tremendous opportunity to visit and learn about one of the most significant and storied locations in the world. The small tour group, “Team Bill”, allowed for tailored explanations and many opportunities for questions. This tour perfectly balanced a mix of both guide-led and independent exploration of the several DMZ sites, enabling an amazing learning experience.

We originally booked a group tour, however due to smaller numbers we were offered the opportunity to upgrade to a private tour — and what an incredible decision that turned out to be! Our tour guide, Bill Hwang, was absolutely outstanding. His knowledge of Korean history was impressive, but what touched us most was the passion he brought to every story he shared. Hearing about his personal experiences and memories of his father living on the other side added a deeply moving and human perspective that made the tour truly unforgettable. Bill, thank you for such a wonderful experience. We are taking home not only memories of Korea, but also the history, stories, and knowledge you so generously shared with us. My sister, brother inlaw and I would highly ecommend Bill as a private tour guide. You will not be disappointed. We would also like to thank the organisation for arranging transport directly to the airport after the tour for an additional fee. This service was incredibly convenient and greatly appreciated, making our travel day completely stress-free. Thank you again from Maria, Jose, and Rosana.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Highly Recommended! We had an absolutely wonderful experience with our tour guide, Bill Hwang, and our driver, Mr Kim. Originally, this was not meant to be a private tour, but due to low numbers, the company changed it to a private tour. While it cost a little more, it was absolutely worth every cent and ended up being one of the highlights of our trip to Korea. Bill was knowledgeable, engaging, and full of great dad jokes that kept us laughing throughout the day. He shared fascinating information about Korea’s history, culture, and attractions, and he was always happy to answer questions. He also provided excellent recommendations for places to visit during the rest of our stay. Because it became a private tour, we were able to enjoy a much more personal experience, and Bill was incredibly accommodating with our schedule and interests. We never felt rushed and were able to make the most of our day. A special thank you to Mr Kim, who was an excellent driver—professional, friendly, and always ensuring we travelled comfortably and safely. Both Bill and Mr Kim went above and beyond, even helping us take plenty of photos so we could capture beautiful memories of our trip. We highly recommend this tour company, Bill Hwang, and Mr Kim to anyone visiting Korea. Thank you for making our visit so enjoyable, informative, and memorable.

We were notified the day before where our meeting place & time would be from Team Bill! Team Bill was very prompt with returning our texts! Our meeting time was moved up 20 minutes earlier than scheduled. This helped to facilitate our group getting an earlier tour at the DMZ due to May attendances & it being a first come basis. Tour well worth your time & money spent & highly recommend. Be advised there's a considerable amout of walking involved with this tour. Our opinion was that Team Bill took a lot of pride in his work, knowledgeable & very willing to answer our questions. Team Bill took various pictures of all of us throughout the day & sent them to us on the What's App! Team Bill reached out to us at the end of our tour & offered for us to text him on the What's App if we needed any advise during our stay in Seoul. If you're looking for a tour with a considerable amount of free time this tour is not for you as it's very structured & time oriented. Great job Team Bill!

While traveling in Korea with my three best friends, we wanted to go to the DMZ from Seoul. Bill was very accommodating and gave us excellent advice to leave early in the morning to avoid the heavy crowds at this destination. Thank you, Bill, for making this experience memorable by sharing many stories; you made this day exciting. Thank you also for the many photos taken during this day. You are the best. Thank you!!!
