Creole Kids Tour in New Orleans

Description
Take a stroll back in time on this unique 90 minute walking tour of the French Quarter. The teacher-led Creole Kids Tour leads elementary aged kids (and their adults) through 6 blocks of the French Quarter explaining who lived here, why they lived here, and what life was like for kids living here in the 19th century. Kids will see pictures of the past, hold artifacts from the past, and reenact a moment in time. Attending adults will walk away with a better understanding of the city- and some very happy kids! Adults are encouraged to participate or to kick back and let their kids lead the show.

Itinerary
Families will learn facts about the river and its use over the past centuries. Dad jokes and thought provoking questions are included.
Kids will learn who Andrew Jackson was, what he is best known for, and why there is a statue of him in New Orleans. They will also greet him as a 19th century citizen would.
In this open park, families will sit in the shade and learn about the different people who controlled, worked, and lived in New Orleans since the 1600s. We'll discuss how this land was used and why people came here- willingly and enslaved. Kids will learn about daily life in the 1800s for free kids vs enslaved children; Americans vs Creoles, and boys vs girls. Thought provoking discussions are woven into the reenactment of aspects of our past while soaking up the sun in this beautiful Square.
Families will learn about the role of the Catholic Church in setting up the colony- as well as the Code Noir which governed religion and roles of the enslaved population. We'll peek along the side and hear about one of the most popular Catholic holidays: Mardi Gras.

Miss Jill did an amazing job with this tour. She was incredibly patient with the kids and the material was perfect for the target audience. My daughter learned a lot and I was happy she was getting well researched and fact based information delivered in a way she could understand and process (even though some topics are difficult for kiddos to get). We loved the tour so much, we booked the tween ghost tour with Miss Chelsea the next day and loved it as well! I cannot recommend this company strongly enough if you are traveling with kiddos.
Awwww- thank you!! That's so sweet to hear! I think you did it just right: the Creole Kids Tour first, followed by the Twilight Tour is the perfect combination for upper elementary aged kids. She got some context first and then learned some of the hidden history. Thanks for coming on tour with us!! I hope you enjoyed the rest of your trip to New Orleans!
What a great tour! Leann was so knowledgeable and passionate about New Orleans history and it really came alive for my 7&10 year olds. She took her time answering questions and adding details and both children and adults walked away with new understanding of the region and history. Both kids and adults were engaged the entire tour, and it was a great mix of history, walking, props and active learning. You can tell Leann is a teacher. I’m sure she’s just as wonderful in the classroom, her students are lucky.
We absolutely LOVED the Creole Kids tour! Leann was our guide and she did a phenomenal job! She went above and beyond with the tour and did an amazing job making history come to life. My husband and I loved it just as much as the kids! It was the highlight of our time in New Orleans, and the kids said it was even better than beignets! 😉
We took a kids walking tour and it was wonderful! Very educational while being engaging and fun. Learned a lot about Creole culture and how people lived hundreds of years ago in New Orleans.
We had a wonderful time! Our 3 daughters really enjoyed the tour and so did we!! The tour was so informative and fun! We highly recommend doing this tour.
My kids loved this! The guide was very knowledgeable and professional. She was very personable and when I told her my children’s father was creole, she made it a point to connect the tour to them. We will be doing more tours and I definitely recommend.
This was an amazing experience for our kids. The communication with location and information ahead of time was perfect. This tour kept our kids attention the entire time and our kids were taking about it all day long. It was very educational and we would highly recommend when visiting NOLA.
Highly interactive. The kids were engaged every step of the way. Jill had visual representations which helped to reinforce facts. Lots of laughter. A wonderful and memorable tour for our kids!
Amazing! Kids and adults loved it! Teacher Candice was perfect! Kids learnef even though they didnt want to.
My 8 and 6 years old stayed engaged the entire time. All four of us learned interesting history of NOLA. Not as much walking as I expected (this was a good thing). I would highly recommend this tour. I wish I booked more tours through them.
Thanks for taking the time to leave a review!! We try to keep the distance proportional to the leg length of the kids ;) Hopefully on your next visit you can try one of our other tours! (Our science tour is coming out in March!) Thanks again for your business- it is MUCH appreciated!!!
