Well communicated. There...

Well communicated. There is not a defined difference between “underground” and “arena floor” and the “audio guide” is just an app on your phone that takes a significant time to download the data and you also need headphones.

The delivery of tickets to the Colosseum was quick and friendly staff, however, changed our arrival time without warning and we had to wait longer than planned for access to the Colosseum

Sayulita or Bucerías Pros and Cons

Sayulita or Bucerías Pros and Cons. A comparison of Sayulita and Bucerías (both on the Riviera Nayarit, Mexico) to help you decide based on your preferences for travel, lifestyle, nightlife, beach quality, cost, safety, and overall vibe. 1- Vibe & Atmosphere Sayulita – “Bohemian Surf Town” Trendier, artsy, youthful, and energetic — attracts surfers, creatives, and party-goers. More international tourist traffic and a busier pedestrian scene. Known for a *lively social scene* and eclectic vibe. Pros Strong surf culture and outdoor lifestyle. Trendy cafes, boutique shopping, music, and nightlife that stay active into the evening. More social energy and variety of activities. Cons Can feel crowded, especially in high season (holidays, spring break). Some visitors find it *too touristy* or busy for quiet vacations. Bucerías – “Relaxed Traditional Beach Town” Quieter, more laid-back and family-friendly. Larger town with a mix of local Mexican culture and an established expat community. Pros Broad, long sandy beach perfect for walks and relaxation. Authentic Mexican town feel with markets, art galleries, and seafood. Typically less frenetic nightlife than Sayulita. Cons: May feel slower paced or “quiet” for nightlife seekers. Some describe infrastructure (roads, streets) as dated. (Local accounts) 2- Beaches & Activities Sayulita Great surf beach with consistent waves and surf culture. Lots of water sports: paddleboarding, snorkeling, tours, etc. Pros: Surf lessons and board rentals widely available. Proximity to marinas and other natural attractions. Cons: Some visitors report water quality issues or crowded conditions (seasonal). Bucerías Long stretch of calmer beach with gentler waves. Good for swimming, strolling, kite surfing (seasonal), and relaxing. Pros Easier beach access within town limits. Great for family beach days and beach clubs with services. Cons Not as famous for big waves — less suited to advanced surfers. 3- Dining & Nightlife Sayulita Broad range of cafes, street food, seafood stands, and themed restaurants. Eclectic nightlife that caters to younger travelers. Bucerías Lots of restaurants — from traditional Mexican to international cuisine. Nightlife tends to be relaxed bars and beachfront lounges. Pros (Bucerías) Better for quieter dinners or evenings out. Strong seafood reputation and local markets. Cons (Sayulita) Can be more crowded and party-centric (less serenity after sunset). 4- Accessibility & Location Sayulita About a 1-hour drive from Puerto Vallarta airport (PVR). More remote relative to major cities. Bucerías 30 minutes from Puerto Vallarta airport. Good base for exploring Riviera Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta region. Pros (Bucerías) Easier/cheaper transportation and day trips. Cons (Sayulita) Longer travel time within region. 5- Cost & Practicalities Sayulita Often perceived as slightly more budget-friendly for dining and lodging options. Real estate remains relatively expensive due to demand. Bucerías Slightly more established community — prices can be moderate. Pros Bucerías offers a range of accommodations from budget to mid-range. Cons High-season pricing in both towns can inflate costs. 6- Safety & Comfort General Both places are considered relatively safe for visitors, with standard travel precautions recommended. Considerations Sayulita’s popularity means more visitors — some travelers online report occasional sanitation or crowd issues. Bucerías is often described as more settled and comfortable for long stays. Decision Guidance Choose Sayulita if you want: A social and active beach town. Strong surf culture and outdoor activities. Youthful nightlife, cafes, and markets. Choose Bucerías if you want: A more relaxed, traditional Mexican town with easy access to Puerto Vallarta. Beachside dining, local markets, and family-friendly activities. Lower-stress evenings and calmer beach experiences.

Easy process retrieving...

Easy process retrieving tickets. Unfortunately that day was so hot we opted to skip the Forum and Palentine Hill, but exploring the Colosseum was fantastic. The app for audioguide would not download for the tour.

Amazing structure but would like to have known more of details.

It was very nice. Never got audio working properly so it was a waste of money to have it. This was my third time there and first with audio. Hoped I would learn more about it but that part was disappointing. Staff that greeted us to pick up tickets was very nice. Maybe they should have explained more about audio.

Colosseum tickets

It was difficult to get direct tickets for the colosseum. This was a good second option. Yes more costly than paying direct and I was worried that tickets weren’t legit. However Artour tourist agency located near the colosseum were easy to find and efficient. Voucher easily exchanged for ticket without any fuss. We opted for just entry but this came with an audio guide app - although we didn’t use it. Very happy and would use Viator again.

Don’t forget headphone

The process to collecting tickets was simple and the line to get into the Colosseum was quick and smooth. Bring headphones to assist listening to the audio guide as it is done through an app. This was information we did not know and it made it very difficult to hear and information. Be prepared for a commercialised visit with only small access areas and lots of people. The Roman forum was beautiful. The space is large and was much larger than anticipated. The line to get in took longer, but was a smooth process.

Remember IDs and prepare to queue

A must see for everyone visiting Rome. We met tour operator above the metro (additional 5 minute up hill walk). We had to queue for around 10 minutes to show passports and tickets. We had access to the arena floor which I’d recommend and look also for tickets for the glass lift to go higher - we didn’t have . There were very long queues for the Roman forum again to show id and tickets.
