Chef Karl took us on an interesting tour of East Berlin, areas that we would have never seen in typical tours. He was an excellent story-teller, some of which were true! The food was excellent, but don't make the mistake of arriving too hungry--we walked for over an hour before eating, so plan for eating late. The wine was excellent. Also, most of the food he prepared was not German, ie a fantastic chicken mole, but this was fine by me since I do not like most German food. :)
The cuisine is International, thanks for pointing that out and taking the time to review.
We really loved how personal this culinary journey felt. Chef Karl explained the background of the area and his life in Berlin in a very engaging way. The dinner was outstanding, with fresh ingredients and perfectly balanced flavors. Each course felt special and thoughtfully prepared. The relaxed home atmosphere made it easy to enjoy the food and talk with other guests. This is a must-do for anyone who enjoys good food and meaningful experiences.
I am shocked so many of you are reviewing now. We will be ready for Spring.
This experience was one of the highlights of our Berlin trip. Chef Karl welcomed us warmly and took us on a relaxed walk through a local neighborhood while sharing personal stories and history of the area. After the walk, we enjoyed a beautiful home-cooked dinner in a cozy setting. Every dish was prepared with care and tasted amazing. The wine flowed nicely and the conversation felt natural and friendly. It truly felt like spending an evening with a local friend rather than being on a tour.
Thank you. It is kind of you to remember to review after so long.
We really enjoyed this culinary journey with Chef Karl. The walk through the area was informative and fun, and the dinner afterward was the highlight of the evening. The food was fresh, well cooked, and served in a cozy home setting. Chef Karl made everyone feel comfortable and involved. It felt less like a tour and more like dining with a local friend.
Thank you.
This experience felt very personal and relaxed from start to finish. Chef Karl welcomed everyone warmly and shared interesting stories about Berlin while walking through the neighborhood. The home-cooked dinner was delicious and thoughtfully prepared. Each dish had great flavor and felt special. It was a perfect mix of food, culture, and friendly conversation. Highly recommended for anyone who wants something different in Berlin.
Clearly we made a mark to get so many lovely reviews months after the experience.
Chef Karl Wilder was simply fantastic with every detail of this very unique experience! A wonderful tour through his neighborhood. It’s one thing to learn history but to learn it through the experiences of Chef Karl’s family and childhood friends was just profound. And the meal! Wow! Every course was better than the one before. The company, the wine, the food! And, finally, Milou. He stole my heart and we bonded in the little time together. Not to mention he is a great guide himself! Can’t say enough good things about this experience and Chef Karl. Skip a touristy restaurant one evening and choose Chef Karl instead! You won’t regret it.
Thank you so much! Summer 2026 is on sale.
This is an exceptional tour, it's a little different to how most food tours run, but the experience is genius. Karl takes you on a very personal journey in this cool part of Berlin, highlighting interesting stories which relate way back to his childhood. From the unique images of the Berlin wall to the area's activist nature all is revealed in a very fun way. After indulging in the areas history and culture, we then head back to Chef Karl's cozy apartment to indulge in a meal of several courses! Highlights included a delicious pastry and meat dish and gorgeous home made fried chicken! Good dinner chat with Karl and the guests and a very nice way to spend a night in Berlin.
Thank you. Genius....we'll take it.
Chef Karl is a delightful host, as well as an informative tour guide of a less touristy part of Berlin. Before dinner, we took a stroll in the Kreuzberg area with Karl and his cute dog. Karl pointed out and gave the history of several unique spots in this bohemian area that, as tourists, we would have never discovered. Afterwards, we went to Karl's apartment for the dinner. He had prepared several cheese and starter dishes which we enjoyed with a very good bottle of wine. (I believe Karl is a sommelier, although I am not sure. Regardless, Karl really knows his wine!) The dinner consisted of several dishes, all of which were excellent and too much for us to eat. And, during the dinner we had a delightful conversation with Karl who has led a very interesting life. But, I'll let Karl tell each of you about that. We thoroughly enjoyed the entire evening a strongly suggest that you have a memorable dinner with Karl and his dog.
Milou, the Boston terrier, is our mascot for a reason. Thank you so much!
It was wonderful ! Great company and great food. We walked around East Berlin and Chef Karl gave us history. What made it extra great was the personal history he has of the city.
Thank you.
Chef Karl, also detective novelist Karl, actor Karl and probably many more Karls) is one of a kind. A master storyteller with a sonorous voice, he regaled us with history and personal stories — including smuggling food and supplies into East Berlin as a four-year-old! When we’d had enough history, he and Coco served us a beautifully prepared dinner of homemade charcuterie - the goose liver pate was a standout—, blini, a salad composed of vegetables he’d grown himself (Farmer Karl?) and not-German-but-delicious Southern Fried Chicken, served with some of the best potatoes I’ve ever tasted. Karl is witty and charming, Milu is perfectly behaved, so dog-haters need not fear. All-in-all Chef Karl’s tour is a forgettable Berlin experience.
I hope you meant unforgettable. Thank you so much!
