Itinerary
At our first stop, we’ll taste the Sicilian Caponata, a vibrant mix of fried vegetables, mainly aubergines, seasoned with tomato sauce, celery, onion, olives, capers, sugar, and vinegar. With countless variations across the Mediterranean, Caponata is now typically served as a side or appetizer, though since the 18th century it was also enjoyed as a main course.
What better place than the local market to try a fried fish cone? Savor a delicious cone filled with various kinds of freshly caught fish, fried to perfection. Alternatively, there may be another local street food to enjoy, offering a true taste of the market’s lively flavors.
As we continue the tour, we’ll stop to taste the Catanese cipollina, a rustic Sicilian pastry made with puff pastry and filled with fried onions, cooked ham, and gooey stringy cheese. A classic from Catanese rotisseries, it delights from the very first bite, with a crispy, flaky exterior giving way to a warm, savory, and slightly sweet filling.
As we continue the tour, you’ll also have the chance to taste the Cartocciata. This Catanese specialty is a stuffed, fragrant, and flavorful rustic pastry. A classic of Sicilian rotisseries, it is similar to a small baked calzone but stands out for its taller, softer, and airier dough.
Finally, the tour concludes with a sweet Sicilian treat. You’ll enjoy a cannoli, the iconic crisp pastry filled with a creamy, sweet ricotta mixture, often garnished with candied fruit, crunchy pistachios, or dark chocolate chips. Alternatively, you will try a Sicilian granita, a refreshing icy dessert perfect for cooling down on a hot summer afternoon. Made simply with fresh fruit, sugar, and ice, it’s a light and flavorful way to end a rich culinary journey on a high note.

Carolina was an amazing tour guide who was very knowledgeable and friendly. Definitely worth your money and a must-do activity for anyone visiting Catania.
Caroline was an excellent foodie tour guide. She was very knowledgeable about the history of her people. The street food we consumed was impeccable. I would highly recommend this tour and the guide.
Just Perfect!! Allegra was our tour guide on our street food walk, and she was absolutely fantastic! She guided us through the city center, taking us to authentic local spots where we enjoyed several delicious street food tastings (definitely not small portions!). Along the way, Allegra shared fascinating stories and interesting background information about Catania, its history, and its food culture, which made the experience even more special. This tour is absolutely fantastic and well worth it. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Catania. Many thanks for this wonderful experience! Ronny
Giuseppe was an amazing guide. He provided us with history of Catania in addition to introducing us to amazing food. He was kind and friendly and went out of his way to give us additional recommendations in Catania after the tour for the rest of our stay.
Giuseppe made our day in Catania extremely special - we had some of the best foods on our entire cruise at the lowest cost for any of our excursions! Giuseppe was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Couldn't imagine having a better introduction to Catania than our 3 hour visit eating amazing foods. We will certainly be back!
! Our street food walking tour with Carolina was one of the absolute highlights of our time in Sicily. From the moment we met her, her passion for Catania, its history, and its incredible food was infectious. Carolina took us through the vibrant streets and markets of the city, introducing us to authentic local specialties that we never would have found on our own. Every stop was carefully chosen and accompanied by fascinating stories about Sicilian culture, traditions, and the origins of the dishes we tasted. The food was delicious, plentiful, and truly representative of Catania's rich culinary heritage. What made the experience especially memorable was Carolina herself. She was knowledgeable, friendly, engaging, and genuinely attentive to everyone in the group. She created a relaxed atmosphere that felt more like exploring the city with a local friend than being on a typical guided tour. If you're visiting Catania and want to experience the city's food, culture, and hidden gems in an authentic way, I cannot recommend this tour highly enough. Come hungry and be prepared to leave with a deeper appreciation for Sicily, great memories, and a very full stomach! Thank you, Carolina, for an unforgettable experience! 🇮🇹🍊🍷🌋
Fantastic! Loved the history explained by a local as opposed to just reading it. Wonderful!
