Itinerary
Discover a day out 1,400 years in the making. England's First Cathedral Founded by St Augustine in 597 AD, Canterbury Cathedral is a unique place of worship, a major pilgrimage destination, a masterpiece of art and architecture, and one of the UK's most-visited historic sites. Often referred to as ‘England in stone', the Cathedral has been at the centre of momentous events and upheavals. It is the Mother Church of the worldwide Anglican Communion, seat of the Archbishop of Canterbury, UNESCO World Heritage Site, and resting place of royalty and saints. Explore the markings of builders, staff and visitors. The alterations to architecture show the development of the church, the masons marks show where they labored, and the markings made by visitors, scratches of ‘medieval graffiti’, give some insight to those that have walked this way before, leaving an anonymous notation in history.
Formed by ice-age floods, the cliffs are up to 110 metres high (350 feet) and run east and west from Dover in Kent, stretching 8 miles in total. The Strait of Dover is the shortest distance between England and France (a little under 21 miles) and on a clear day you can see the French coast from the Cliffs.
Dover Castle is a medieval castle in Dover, Kent, England and is Grade I listed. It was founded in the 11th century and has been described as the "Key to England" due to its defensive significance throughout history. Dover Castle is one of the largest castles in England, proudly standing on top of the White Cliffs, overlooking busy port of Dover. The castle guards the shortest crossing point to continental Europe. (It is only 21 miles (34 km) between Dover and France.)

Kalum was our driver on this trip as well and dropped us as close as possible to entrances. Based on weather we chose to go to the Cliffs first due to expected rain on the Channel. Glad we did as rain hit before our walk to the cliffs was completed. We did see some rain at Dover Castle as well as Canterbury Cathedral. Both of these stops were where we had issues with the tickets not matching our party of three. Thankfully, I had our Viator printouts to show we paid for three to both tours but still caused delays. We didn't get inside Dover Castle tower due to steps with no railings, and both my wife and I were leery of climbing without the help.
