Description

Sachsenhausen was the first purpose-built concentration camp, created as a centre of terror, persecution, and systematic brutality. Initially, it imprisoned those the Nazi regime considered racially, socially, or politically undesirable. Travel through the town of Oranienburg and learn how the local community was connected to the camp. Your expert, licensed guide will lead you through key locations including the punishment cells, infirmary, barracks, gas chamber, and crematoria, while sharing powerful stories of resilience and courage among prisoners. The tour also visits the Inspectorate of Concentration Camps, the administrative centre that controlled the Nazi camp system across Europe. This is a fully guided and stress-free experience. Our guides will welcome and assist you at the meeting point in Berlin, accompany you throughout the day, and bring you comfortably back to the city centre at the conclusion of the tour. A €3 per person donation supports the Sachsenhausen Memorial.

Must see if you're interested in modern history.

Will was our guide and he was very thoughtful and thorough throughout the tour. The history and context of the camp is very important and I think the subject was handled with care.

Sachsenhausen

Visiting Sachsenhausen is a deeply moving experience, but having Rohan as our guide made it truly unforgettable. Visiting a site with such heavy history requires a delicate balance of deep historical rigor, empathy, and respect—and Rohan delivered on every single front. From the moment the tour began, Rohan demonstrated an incredible depth of knowledge. Rather than just reciting dates and facts, he carefully contextualized the human stories, making the complex and tragic history of the camp deeply resonant. His ability to navigate such solemn material with poise and sensitivity while keeping our group completely engaged throughout was nothing short of brilliant. He was remarkably attentive to the group, pacing the walk thoughtfully, answering every question with nuance, and ensuring everyone had time and space for personal reflection. It is clear that Rohan is genuinely dedicated to historical education and honoring the memory of those who suffered here. If you are planning to visit Sachsenhausen, doing so with Rohan is an absolute must. He transformed a heavy day into a profound, highly educational, and unforgettable experience.

Highly recommend learning history

Much of it can only truly be felt when you are actually at the site. The feelings of eeriness, dread, and the cold stench of death cannot be described in mere words alone. Our tour guide, Campbell, was amazing.

In depth, very interesting tour

Our tour with Xavier was excellent- he is very knowledgeable on the subject and when into great detail. What was also unique to Xavier which we really appreciated was that he frequently checked up on the guests that the subject matter was what we were interested in and knew all answers to follow up questions. Beyond this he was very personable and friendly, always looking out for what the group needed. We would 100% recommend this tour and tour guide.

Hannah is exceptional

Hannah was exceptional; brilliant, compassionate, astute. She infused her guiding words with a radiant world view communicated with precision and understanding. She made this visit uniquely moving; if you are on her tour, be prepared for unforgettable, masterful storytelling; expert eloquence; and, a tender rendering of a very hard history.
