The Citadel of Cairo or Citadel of Saladin (Arabic: قلعة صلاح الدين‎ Qalaʿat Salāḥ ad-Dīn) is a medieval Islamic-era fortification in Cairo, Egypt, built by Salah ad-Din (Saladin) and further developed by subsequent Egyptian rulers. It was the seat of government in Egypt and the residence of its rulers for nearly 700 years from the 13th to the 19th centuries. Its location on a promontory of the Mokattam hills near the center of Cairo commands a strategic position overlooking the city and dominating its skyline. At the time of its construction, it was among the most impressive and ambitious military fortification projects of its time.[1] It is now a preserved historic site, including mosques and museums.

A must do!

Tour was GREAT. It was our last day in Cairo and we wanted to go back to the museum. There was so much we didn’t see earlier in the week and our guide Rania was simply lovely. She answered all our questions and was very patient with us. She took us Citadel and shopping and shopping. She’s also a great photographer!! Highly recommended.

Brilliant guide, excellent tour - a must when visiting Cairo!

Very enjoyable, informative tour with Soad. She had such a broad knowledge and was really lovely to have taking us. The Egyptian Museum was fantastic, the Citadel really worth visiting and the bazaar was fun. Definitely recommend Soad as a tour guide. The driver was exceptional too, navigating the madness that is Cairo’s road system with precision and ease! I would hate to have to get taxis or Ubers from the museum to the citadel and bazaar, having the driver and Soad made the experience seamless and so enjoyable! The buffet lunch was great! Thank you 😊
