Description

Trastevere means "beyond the river" and it is considered one of the most typical disctrict of Rome. Along this 2.5-hour tour you not only will discover Trastevere and its cosy alleys and hidden corners, but will sample the typical Italian and Roman street food. You will discover district's landmark such as the church of Santa Maria in Trastevere, risen around the first Christian community in Rome, Sistus Bridge, named after the pope who commissioned its restoration in 16th century, or Piazza Trilussa, dedicated to one of the most famous Roman dialect poet. This group tour will not exceed 14 people, so that instead of a tour, you will feel like wandering the city in a friendly atmosphere.

Itinerary

Pass by

Meet your guide on Tiber Island, the only urban island of the Tiber river and learn the this small island shaped like a ship. Start the tour in the medieval side of Trastevere. Your guide will take you to the Church of Santa Cecilia, the patron saint of musicians, and your first stop will be in one of Rome's oldest bakeries.

Pass by

Trastevere remains very traditional and boasts the presence of many old-school craftsmen and traders. Discover their  work, unchanged by modernity, like the cold cuts store where you can taste salami and cheese cured in the local Italian tradition.

Pass by

Then, move to the heart of the district, in piazza di Santa Maria in Trastevere. After visiting the homonym church, tasting will continue with one of the most famous typical Roman Street food: the supplì, a deep fried rice ball filled with cheese, tomato mozzarella egg. From one stop to another you will also discover one of the oldest and best pizza shop of the district.  Your guide will show you the off-the beaten paths of this area, and help you to familiarize with the area, full of restaurants of local cooking or bar and pub where young locals use to spend their night having fun with friends. Not only salty tastings, but also sweets!

Pass by

Before enjoying the gran finale with a savory, fresh made gelato, you will step on Sistus bridge on the Tiber, and take pictures of the big Cupolone, the Saint Peter's dome that reveals itself on background. You will love this tour and Trastevere too!

Long enough and good food...

Long enough and good food variety. The guide Kiarra was informative without being information overload. She was friendly and humorous.

Marco was an amazing guide! We had a great time. Loved the food and the history. We wish we had done it our first day in Rome so we could have gone back to more of the places.

Great tour

This was a great food tour that I would highly recommend. Our tour guide Daniele was very knowledgeable, friendly, and accommodating. We were running about 10 minutes late to meet up with the tour and he waited for us. The food we had was some of the best that we tasted in Rome. Would highly recommend this.

Luca - born and raised in Rome - was extremely knowledgeable about the food and culture of the city. We really enjoyed the experience.. the walk he chose and the food. We’ve been referencing his tour since! Sign up.. enjoy!

Great tour. Excellent guide.

Francesca was great! She was really knowledgable and knew so much about the history of the food and the place. We took more photos of Trastevere than of the food, but it was an excellent selection of eats. We loved this tour!
