Big Waves of Nazaré - Private Tour
Description
The Portuguese "West Coast" is branded by having the Largest Waves in the World, usually occurring in Nazaré. Surfers from around the globe come just to surf them! We'll start the day by picking you up, and going to Óbidos (1-hour drive). Óbidos is a historical town, dating back to the Romans, and is filled with royal enchantment you'll love! After that, we go to Nazaré. We'll be able to enjoy a walk along the shore, and, if we're lucky, watch some of the biggest waves in the world! This fishing village gets its name after a statue of the Virgin Mary, brought from Nazareth by a monk in the 4th century. Here, you'll be able to lunch and taste our amazing grilled fish! (At your own expense.) There's plenty to choose from! After lunch, we'll move to Batalha, where we'll admire the pure magnificence of the Batalha monastery, We can also have a taste of the regional pastries! Come with us to discover Portuguese culture and history in some of the most stunning places of our country!

Itinerary
This charming hamlet of white houses is enclosed in 14th century walls. When King Dinis married Isabella of Aragon in 1282, Óbidos was one of his wedding gifts.
Next to a radiant beach, in a large bay, this fishing town is a popular summer resort that has lost some of its original character, where you can still see fishermen wearing plaid shirts and women in countless layered skirts. Nazaré is also known by having the biggest waves in the world!
The Dominican monastery of Santa Maria da Vitória in Batalha is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture, famous for its Manueline elements.

It was so fun checking out the enormous waves and the museum. Seeing them on TV simply does not capture it.

Our trip to Nazare was made even more fabulous by our charming, knowledgeable and extremely kind guide Miguel who showed us some beautiful locations on the way there. We were blessed by sunshine and warm weather and are returning for sure next year, hopefully with Miguel as our tour guide again...we cannot recommend him highly enough. See you in 2024!

I can’t say enough!! My group of friends and I travel to Europe every other year. Jose was the best guide we have ever had. Had a great trip with Rui today. I was originally scheduled for the Berlenga Islands private tour, but because the seas are too rough to travel, Manuel reached out and offered me this second trip. He was very kind, considerate, and forgiving throughout the process. Rui was an absolutely wonderful guide. Very down-to-earth and knowledgeable. He even offered to take the coastal route to see the Berlenga Islands from a viewpoint on the way to Nazaré. Thank you so much, Rui and Manuel!
