Description

Walk Through the Shadows of History Berlin was the nerve center of one of the darkest regimes the world has ever known — and on this 2-hour walking tour, you’ll step into the very streets where it all unfolded. From the Reichstag to the chilling remains of Hitler’s underground bunker, this tour takes you deep into the heart of the former Nazi government district. Stand at the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe and hear the stories of those who suffered under Hitler’s brutal rule. Learn how a once-democratic nation slid into dictatorship — and how Berlin became the stage for both devastation and resistance. Led by an expert guide, you’ll uncover the chilling rise and dramatic fall of the Third Reich, tracing the final days of World War II from the very ground where history was made. You’ll also hop on public transport during the tour, so be sure to bring a short-trip AB ticket with you.

Itinerary

Pass by

Your Half-day Berlin Walking Tour begins in front of the Brandenburg Gate.

30 min

Walk with your guide as you learn about the heart of darkness that transformed a WWI scarred country into the near triumphant victors of WWII.

30 min

This powerful memorial, composed of 2,711 concrete slabs of varying heights, stands as a stark tribute to the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust. As you navigate its narrow, uneven pathways, the towering slabs create a sense of isolation and unease — an intentional design meant to evoke the uncertainty and despair experienced during this dark chapter of history.

30 min

Explore the area where the Nazi regime once held power, including the site of Hitler’s underground bunker, now a simple parking lot. Though little remains, your guide will bring history to life, recounting the final days of the Third Reich and how this district once shaped the course of WWII.

30 min

Walk through the former Jewish neighbourhood in Berlin, as you learn about the Nazi's despicable treatment of the Jewish people. See the buildings and the remains of those that were key to the Nazi’s grip on Germany as you examine Hitler’s rise to power, and eventual downfall. See the Old Synagogue and visit the former Jewish cemetery desecrated by the Nazis.

Excellent, informative.

What can I say? We met Simon today at the agreed time and place with a group of about 20/25 others. What a knowledgeable and engaging tour we had. Simon was amazing. His knowledge was excellent and he kept us engaged for the whole 2 hours. My 13yr old History loving daughter was fascinated from start to finish and has definitely said she's going back to school next week to teach her History teacher. The pace was fine for my mother who's early 70's. I really recommend this tour. Absolutely fascinating from start to finish. Well done Simon. 5* from all of us. (We booked under the name Towell)

Simon was an outstanding and extremely knowledgeable guide. His passion for the subject matter constantly made me want to know more and go deeper. He has clearly immersed himself in the topics and was eager to share what he learned. I thoroughly enjoyed this tour.

Very worthwhile - 5 Stars

On a very wet, windy Friday with hail as well, I joined a walking tour of Jewish Berlin with two others and our Guide Nir. It was a fascinating tour and Nir being so knowledgeable, personable and inclusive made the tour really enjoyable despite the dreadful weather. In fact the three of us rearranged our Saturday so we could be with Nir again on a walking tour of the Third Reich. This was a large group and we saw amongst other things, the Holocaust memorial, Hitler’s bunker, some of the old Berlin Wall and Checkpoint Charlie. Despite the size of the group Nir managed to involve everyone in the conversations, to keep everyone interested and to keep us all together. Congratulations to Sandemans for having such a great tour guide and for providing such interesting tours.

Excellent walking tour

Highly recommend this walking tour. The guide Marcel was excellent and very informative. Most of the 2.5 hr tour was by foot, with a short S-bahn ride.

Scammers

They're scammers. The tour of the third raich had to be paid beforehand and when we went to the meeting place no one ever showed up. They don't answer emails or phones. They don't give us back what we pay. DON'T BOOK WITH SANDEMANS.

Paid for tour and guide never showed up!

Booked onto the Third Reich tour and paid €32 for 2 tickets. We arrived at the meeting point as described on the ticket 15 minutes early, and after waiting until well after the advertised start time, there was no sign of anybody from the tour company. Several other tourists who were booked onto the same tour were also waiting. Eventually a fellow tourist arrived who had also been booked on the tour - however he happened to be in the area earlier when the free tour left, and was told by that guide then that the 1430 Third Reich tour was cancelled. He wanted to let other tourists know, so took it upon himself to come back at 1430 and tell us, for which we were very grateful to him. We had no communication from the company telling us that the tour had been cancelled, and to add insult to injury received an email the following day saying ‘we hope you enjoyed your third reich tour!’ Currently trying to get a refund. Apparently this company is under new management, and it has gone massively downhill as a result.

Third Reich Tour with Sandeman

Definetly a must-do. Our tour guide gave an interesting perspective about the Berlin and its history. I'm sorry I can't remember the guide's name.
