Itinerary
Our food tour will start at the central square of the city of Zagreb. While the square's official name is Ban Jelačić Square, locals call it Jelačić plac. It is located right below the old city cores called Kaptol and Gradec. In the 17th century the square was called Harmica, and it was used as a marketplace for the entire town. Today it's the heart of the city and most of the major events in Zagreb happen at Ban Jelačić Square.
After a very brief walk we will arrive at the European square. The square is overlooked by the cathedral and it often hosts outdoor events, such as craft markets and DJ sets. At the square you will be able to view a miniature model of the city of Zagreb, with all its major locations and streets.
Our first restaurant will give you a chance to taste a cold appetizer that is based in the Istrian region. You will learn about the wonderful region of Istra, their culinary customs. In the meantime you will taste their wine and a region specific cold dish.
We will continue our walk to the Dolac Market, a farmers market that has been one of the most visited locations in the entire city since 1930. It is a farmers market that holds a deep historical and cultural importance to Zagreb and Croatia in general. Dolac is a combination of a more traditional open market and a sheltered market right beside it.
Our second restaurant will offer you a chance to taste warm appetizers from the region of Zagreb. These regional dishes and drinks will certainly fill your belly and make the rest of the tour more enjoyable.
Next we will pass through the most vibrant street in Zagreb. Tkalčićeva street is a perfect way to get introduced to the colorful locals of Zagreb, it is a combination of the past and present of Zagreb. We will pass next to countless cafes, smaller restaurants, traditional shops and boutiques.
The Stone Gates are the next location we will visit and it is one of the most important monuments in Zagreb. A place that served as a defense system for Zagreb in the 13th century is now an oath site. The Stone Gate is often visited by people of faith to pray and light candles. The gates truly create a serene atmosphere for all visitors who pass through.
The next stop on our journey will be the Zagreb Cathedral. It is a Roman Catholic church that is the second tallest building in Croatia. The Cathedral is created in the Gothic style and its awe inspiring architecture is impossible to ignore, especially its two spires that can be seen from various parts of the city. The cathedral also has a treasury that houses various important religious documents and items.
The next stop is the Saint Marks Square, located in the old town of Zagreb. The square shares a name with a church and it also is the location of the Croatian parliament.
We will then pass one of the symbols of Zagreb, a formidable defense tower from long ago. It is located in Gradec and it's one of the last remnants of the city's ancient defense system.
On our way to the third restaurant we will pass the worlds shortest funicular ride, the Uspinjača stairs. It is the first form of public transportation in Zagreb and the world in general.
This will lead us to the iconic Strossmayer promenade where you can enjoy the best panoramic views of Zagreb. Soak up its romantic vibes while taking the best pictures imaginable.
At the third restaurant on the tour you will get to experience a main dish specific to the regions of Zagreb and Zagorje. You will learn about the culinary culture of the city and the country of Croatia itself. Also the restaurant might offer some interesting sightseeing possibilities as it houses various historical replicas and fascinating pictures.
After the restaurant we will pass through Tunnel Grič located in the city center. Grič in general is a very historic part of Zagreb. The tunnel has a central hall and two passageways. It was built during World War 2 and before being a pedestrian tunnel it was a bomb shelter and a promenade.
The Bloody Bridge is an infamous street that will lead us to the final restaurant of the day. This street was given that name because of the countless conflicts that happened between the two small cities Kaptol and Gradec. These two cities were later formed into Zagreb itself. While the Bloody bridge is a small street, it held many epic battles between the two cities.
Our final destination of the day will offer you a chance to taste a delicious regional dessert that will remain a surprise. You will also taste several regional wines specifically used for desserts.

A really fun way to explore Zagreb, and try out a wide variety of foods (including what frequently features on "Must Try" lists!) all paired with a drink to try with it, from delicious truffle cheese, to cevapini in fluffy, fresh bread, stuffed peppers with paprika sauce and mash, to Štrukli - Dino took very good care of our group, and by the end of the tour, it was like going restaurant hopping with friends.
Our guide Dino was very friendly and knowledgable. We left the tour knowing much more about the city and it’s cuisine and were very full!
A nice mix of city walking tour and opportunity to taste local cuisines across four different restaurants Our guide was very good telling interesting stories as we went around

It was one of the best if not the best food walking tours we have done and this was due to the fact that we spent quality time eating quality local food at the restaurants we visited. Lukas was an amazing guide, informative, knowledgeable and caring of his guest’s wellbeing. We were never rushed from place to place, the whole experience was relaxing and enjoyable.
Thank you so much for the positive feedback and great review. We are so glad you enjoyed your tour experience with Lukas and we will make sure he knows. The entire Toural Travel team wishes you the best and we hope that in the future we can organize another tour for you.
Lukas was a great guide for our group of 7! Four great restaurant stops with lots of fun facts and info in between as we visited upper and lower city, passed by churches annd monuments and walked thru the tunnel. I would definitely recommend this 4pm tour for a lovely late afternoon and evening excursion. Yummy food and drinks, too.
Thank you so much for the wonderful feedback! Toural Travel thanks you and your group of seven for joining us. We are delighted that you enjoyed the delicious food, drinks, and the walk through both the Upper and Lower town! We hope to see you all again soon!
We love doing food tours on our first day in a new city, it's such a fun way to get your bearings, learn some curious facts about the city, meet interesting people and of course taste the local cuisine. Ivan was a great guide - he gave us just the right amount of titbits and information about Zagreb without it getting too "lecture-y" and kept the conversation and chat going. Nice choice of food places - the third one (Konoba Didov San) was probably a bit touristy, but the others were all great finds, and we went back to a couple of them. And of course you will eat plenty of food, no problems there! We had a great afternoon, thank you!
Thank you so much for the fantastic review! We love that you make food tours your day-one tradition, and we're so glad we could give you such a great introduction to Zagreb. Ivan was thrilled to hear your feedback, he always aims for that perfect balance of fun stories without the lecture! Thank you from all of us at Toural Travel for spending your afternoon with us. Safe travels on your next adventures!
