Itinerary
Our Twilight Tour is a 4 to 5 mile journey and usually takes about 3 hours. After a brief orientation with your guide, the group will paddle along the shore of Yellowstone Lake, North America's Largest High Alpine Lake! Depending on weather conditions and the group ability, our guides will safely escort the group to West Thumb Geyser Basin. After touring the Geyser Basin, where dozens of geothermal features are visible above and below the water's surface, we will return along the same route, stopping for refreshment and a chance to explore along the shore of the lake, arriving back at our Launch Point in Grant Marina before the sun sets. Return time may vary depending on group size, weather, fitness, and of course the time the sunsets.
Takes place in Yellowstone Park
The West Thumb Geyser Basin is a short drive from the Iconic Old Faithful Inn and Geyser. The 1/2 mile elevated boardwalk twists and turns through the Geyser Basin providing views of some of the most beautiful Hot Springs, pools, and geysers in the park.
Bridge Bay is a short drive from the West Thumb Geyser Basin along the shores of Yellowstone Lake.
Hayden Valley is just 27 Miles from the West Thumb Geyser Basin. A great point of interest to visit before or after your Kayak experience on Yellowstone Lake.

We had NEVER been in a kayak before and this was a great first time experience. Guides made us feel at ease and comfortable with the whole thing.
This was a wonderful way to view Yellowstone Lake and we loved every minute of it. The tour guides were very informative and made it fun for adults and teenagers alike. Cannot say enough about how much this added to our whole Yellowstone experience. 10/10 would highly recommend.
Great experience. Tiffany as a guide was very patient and knowledgeable. Highly recommend. The views were amazing.
Well the lake is great. Unfortunately our tour was not. I purchased this for a friend who is an avid kayaker. I requested a solo kayak for her so she could do the tour without the burden of me, a novice. When we got to the meeting place. There was only a tandem for us. It was only then that THEY informed me that they had decided we would be paired. That meant she had to be burdened with me. That was not what we wanted. They should have informed me that my request wasn't going to be met when I made the request. Had they done that, I would have canceled and then purchased her tour as a solo. She would have had a much, much more enjoyable experience.
Our family of 5 enjoyed this kayak trip with our guide, Dillon. When we first saw the “waves” on Yellowstone Lake the day before this trip, we were a bit worried - we are average in terms of experience and the kids had not been in water like this before. Dillon put our minds at ease and once we got going, the waters calmed tremendously, allowing for a smooth ride. Dillon was incredible! He told us so many wonderful facts and stories about Yellowstone and we peppered him with questions the entire time. He was warm and friendly and like one of the family on this trip. He gave us suggestions for our last day in the park, which was invaluable. Thank you, Dillon - we wish you all the best. Five star review all the way! As info - our kids are 14 and 17 and we took 2 tandems and one solo kayak.
We had a great time doing this trip. Our guide was very informative and a beautiful evening on the lake! Great way to see Yellowstone Lake and some of the geysers of west thumb!
We had 4 adults and two kids ages 10 and 8. We were in kayaks in groups of two. Each child with an adult. Dillon was our guide and he was super knowledgeable about the park and he was great with our kids.
The guides make the trip easy for beginners and entertaining for the rest. Michael kept the energy up through the trip with interesting facts and stories while keeping an eye out for interesting wildlife on the shore. We were lucky with a perfect day and a great guide.
This was the perfect way to end the day. Dillon was the most gracious and knowledgeable guide. I was worried that the winds were too much but assured us that it would not be a problem...and he was right. It was so calm and relaxing. We can't say enough good about the excursion and the company. Seeing the geysers from the water was fantastic. We took the sunset tour. The pictures I have from the beach at the end of the day were stunning.
We had a three-hour sunset kayaking trip with Grand Prismatic Tours in late September 2025. Dylan was our guide, and he did a phenomenal job. He was personable, knowledgeable, and kind. My husband and I were in a tandem kayak and the six-mile round-trip paddle was easy to execute and enjoyable. Dylan pointed out wildlife as we paddled - a bald eagle and a close-up elk on the shoreline were particularly memorable - and told us interesting facts about the lake and Yellowstone’s geothermal features. Speaking of, seeing the geysers from the water was a really unique and neat experience. I would highly recommend!
