Jane was on time even though it was very early in the morning, she was welcoming. She told me a lot about whale sharks. We were well taken care of during the trip. Mostly importantly, I swam very closely with the whale sharks!!!! I love them so I know that to limit the jumps is to protect them but I wish we got more time with them!!! For sure once in a life time experience, highly recommends! (P.S. Jane was very sweet talking many photos of us even when we are resting or when the trip was finished)
Jane is the most experienced guide I’ve ever met. Thanks for letting me learn more about the whale sharks.
Here is my in depth review of this experience…From the start the pick up was excellent from our hotel, arriving prompt and on time. Our tour guide, Roberto, was excellent from start to finish - very informative and passionate about sea life. When we arrived to the port after about a 2 hour bus journey from Playa Del Carmen, we received our packed breakfast which was not half bad. After this our group hopped onto the boat. The boat ride to the area where the whale sharks were was about an hour and a half ride. Now for my KEY TIP, if you get offered sea sick tablets - please take them because we didn’t, and well you can guess the rest, (the fish were well fed). In pairs you then got to swim with the whale shark for how ever long you kept up with it them (twice). It was an incredible experience and worth the sea sickness and travel. From this we went to the Island, did snorkelling for about 15 minutes looking at fish and coral. We then went back onto the boat to go to the beach area. We got given our lunch, it was kind of gross, I didn’t eat it, but to be honest I felt too sea sick to eat it anyways. We then stayed on the island for about 30 minutes it was nice but by this point half of the party was a bit sick and would have just preferred to go back. The journey back on the bus was long and it didn’t help that the tyre went flat and needed changed - I understand it’s something that can’t be helped but we missed a reservation because of it. I’d say the main thing that was disappointing about this was that you had to pay $50 for photos/videos after the big price you pay for the excursion anyways. I personally only wanted/liked 1 video so I wasn’t prepared to pay $50 for one video but would have paid like $5 for it. Also, we got told that we had to pay a $20 fee to get onto Nacional Park although it didn’t say this on trip advisor. I’ll place the screenshot below so whoever is reading this is aware for future buyers. Overall I would recommend to do this tour as it was so memorable! However, I definitely think cutting the prices down for pictures/videos or allowing people to select the few they like for a smaller fee would have been great to allow people to hold onto these memories forever without feeling like they’ve spent a large portion of their holiday fund.
Swimming with whale sharks is an amazing experience one should not miss in Cancun. While there are several companies offering a similar experience I share my experience with Eco Tours Adventures: Online booking was easy, after an Automatic confirmation there were personal E-Mails from Eco Tours Pick Up was scheduled at 6:45 in the morning, the van arrived a few minutes later, nearly in time, perfect! Our tour guide Alejandra gave us a lot of information about the animals and showed good knowledge, later we met the rest of the crew when boarding the speed boat and heading to the whale shark area, about 1 hour or more from Cancun. After our arrival we swam in groups of two guests and one guide with the sharks which is the "law". Our Crew was looking for "slow" whale sharks so that everybody could maximize his personal whale shark experience following the rules. Alejandra and the whole crew were really helpful, always Patient and spoke good English, I think everybody onboard enjoyed the trip, so I really recommend Eco Tours Adventures.
Flor was the most amazing guide ever!!! She is so knowledgeable and genuine!!! We have done a lot of tours and she is definitely at the top of the list!!! She is a Marine biologist that enthusiastically brings her experience to life as we experienced the most amazing snorkel with the whale sharks!!! The crew on El Rey were fabulous guiding us to see the whale sharks up and personal! The weather and water conditions were great as well!!!! It's definitely a living list checked off!!!
We had an amazing experience on our whale shark and snorkeling tour with our guide Edgar! He was very knowledgeable and made the day so much fun! The ceviche and guacamole were excellent. We will definitely request him for our next tour!
Edgar was a brilliant guide, very knowledgeable, patient and funny! My daughter was suffering with sea sickness and he was so helpful and kind.
Awesome once in a lifetime experience. Our tour guide was amazing.
Absolutely amazing experience! Looked after well by Javi Alonso who spoke to us and some other guests in English and switched to German for other guests. The pick-up was on time and we went to pick others up on route. Javi showed us some videos from the previous day's tour and told us what to expect and we had the option to hire wetsuits for $20. Tip: Make sure you use reef safe sun cream before pick-up. Quick breakfast provided and time to get changed quickly before getting onto the boat and meeting the crew. Lots of fun with Javi and the boat crew and they made sure to get the most time in the water with the whale sharks but also that we were not to touch or get too close. Great videos from the experience too. It's a long ride out on a speedboat so prepare for sea sickness which you forget as soon as you're in the water with the whale sharks. Quick snorkle at Isla Mujures afterwards followed by lunch (inc. Veggie option). Then once back to Cancun, quick change then taken back to your hires with snacks and a chance to view the pictures and videos from the day. Thank you
Eco tours was incredible. Our group had a magical and bucket-list filling adventure. The guides were incredible and it was a once in a lifetime trip for me, particularly since I discovered how seasick I get and they were so great taking care of me. Highly recommend this tour group!! Edgard, Kiké, and “Edgard Jr” were so fun and knowledgeable and a great addition to our party. 😎🥰
