The Museum of Fine Arts / Arts History Musuem developed from the art collections of the royal House of Habsburg. The collection of the picture gallery is one of the largest and most important of its kind in the world today. Among the other highlights in the Picture Gallery are its holdings of pictures by Pieter Bruegel the Elder, which are unique worldwide, as well as masterpieces by Vermeer, Rembrandt, Raphael, Caravaggio, Velázquez and Italian Baroque painters.
The Natural History Museum origins date back to the imperial collections of the 18th century. "Dedicated to the kingdom of nature and its exploration", the building, exhibitions and collections form a total work of art with a unique atmosphere.
We cross the Ringstraße. The Ringstraße is a circular grand boulevard that serves as a road around the historic central part of Vienna.
Palace gate. When Napoleon came along in 1809, he did serious damage to the city walls. Between 1821-1824 they built a new gate for the Hofburg, which is known as the Burgtor; it is the only remaining gate of the city’s walls.
Historic Heldenplatz (Heros Place), once planned as an extensive imperial forum, is dominated by the monumental equestrian statues of Prince Eugen and Archduke Karl. This spot affords the best view of the Imperial Palace as well as the adjacent Volksgarten.
The Imperial Palace, which until 1918 was inhabited by the imperial family houses today the office of the Federal President as well as an important congress centre and numerous art collections.
The imperial palace (Hofburg) was originally a castle built in the thirteenth century, which was extended to a splendid residence in accordance with the increasing power of the Habsburgs and the expansion of their realm.
Gothic Imperial Chapel, where the Vienna Boys’ Choir performs during High Mass on Sunday, is a remnant of the Imperial Palace during the Middle Ages.
The Hofburg Palace Gardens. The Burggarten, formerly known as the Emperor’s Garden, was created in 1819. It was constructed on top of the foundations of a former fortified compound, the Augustinerschanze.

The Graphic Art Collection of the ALBERTINA Museum offers a truly panoramic survey of art: founded in 1776 by Duke Albert of Saxe-Teschen, this collection now contains over one million drawings and prints from the late Gothic to the present. From Michelangelo and Dürer to Rembrandt and Rubens, and from Klimt and Schiele to Picasso on to Richter and Lassnig, the ALBERTINA Museum’s collection affords a rich overview of 600 years of art history. Due to their light-sensitivity, the museum’s masterpieces cannot be put on permanent display. For this reason, we show you these works in accordance with strict conservation standards as part of our special exhibitions.

We had a wonderful tour! Our guide was very knowledgeable about both history and great places to eat/drink. She gave us tons of facts and tons of tips. Overall a very interesting tour.
It was a very engaging tour, our guide was excellent in anticipating the groups needs, shade at all stopping points. Water breaks, it was 30 degrees. Apart from her deep knowledge of the history of Vienna/ Austria, she was funny and very friendly. I highly recommend her.
