Unexpected Wall Street Walking Tour

Description
Gordon Gekko told the world that greed is good, but there's much more to Wall Street - and the (former) Financial District - than finance and greed! Dutch settlement, the British, and the Revolutionary War may come to mind. Yes, we'll talk finance on this tour. Sure, we'll explore NYC's Dutch roots, the Redcoats, and the Sons of Liberty. But this old part of New York City is also a saint's birthplace, a Lenape hunting trail, anarchists, the invention of takeout food, vandals, an infamous ghost, the former home of a wild turkey, immigrants, and obscure monuments. It's dark alleys and twisty streets and secrets. This tour, then, is a spotlight on unexpected Wall Street.

So much fun! Suzanne is a natural born storyteller and I learned a lot! Want to find out what Aaron Burr and Trump have in common? Take the tour! Not only was the tour fun & educational? It is accessible! Covid cautious friendly, wheelchair friendly. Wins all around ❤️
Thank you so much! It is my mission to create accessible, fun tours, and I am so glad I succeeded!
If you enjoy seeing and learning about the mysteries of New York City's past hidden in plain sight, then this is the tour for you. I had a blast walking around lower Manhattan and learning about the city's various inhabitants throughout the years. This is a well thought out, well researched, exploration into the city's early history with a knowledgeable and friendly guide. I would highly recommend the tour to anyone interested in early American history.
Thank you! I really enjoyed meeting you!
Suzanne led a great tour and brought out lots of interesting facts about Wall St and the surrounding area. Learned a lot that we wouldn’t normally notice just walking by and enjoyed ourselves. The tour was just the right length at 2 hours and Suzanne was really engaging with lots of fun facts throughout. Highly recommend this tour!
I am so glad that you enjoyed the tour, and I appreciate the review!
I loved Suzanne’s tour yesterday, would highly recommend. I’d walked the area a handful of times before, but it was so cool to find out all the fun facts and history I had totally missed previously. What I loved – fun facts. What I disliked – honestly, nothing comes to mind. I also was able to book last minute, which was super helpful for my unpredictable schedule when I’m in town. I look forward to doing another tour with her in the future.
Thank you! I really enjoyed meeting you, and I'm so glad you enjoyed the tour. Looking forward to the next one!
We visit New York City every two years, but this was the first time we hired a guide, and it was truly fantastic! Suzanne shared fascinating stories about NYC that even our teenage kids found captivating, sparking a new interest in history. From the early settlements to Hamilton and Burr, and more recent events, we gained a fresh perspective on the city. Suzanne is an exceptionally knowledgeable and passionate guide, with a deep love for New York's architecture and history.
I am so glad to hear how much you all enjoyed the tour! You were a wonderful group, and I appreciate the opportunity to share with you!
As a former New Yorker, I was stunned by the rich history packed into such a small area. Who knew these spaces held so much meaning? Suzanne’s humor and storytelling made every moment unforgettable—turning history into something truly relatable. Highly recommend!
Thank you so much, Vanessa! It was a pleasure having you on the tour!
Suzanne took us to the tour into unexpected area(for the regular tourist) : from South ferry to around the financial district. As a poorly informed tourist from the country far-far-away I would never imagined that there is something so interesting to find. Oh, how wrong was I! Of course, it has long and interesting history – from very first New Amsterdam area via Hamilton to early banking and trading moguls. Her storytelling is witty, factual knowledge impressive and also, she draws parallels to modern world – who would imagine that the saying ”history repeats itself” is so clearly proven. Connections to nowadays help us to remember history better. I strongly suggest taking any tour guided by her.
I am so glad that you enjoyed it!
The guide was very knowledgeable about the history of lower Manhattan and our country. It felt like we were taken back in time to walk the same streets as our founding fathers.
My friends and I are history buffs, so Suzanne's tour of the area around Wall Street was perfect. Over two hours of wandering the narrow streets, we saw the edge of the island -- including plenty of places built on landfill, through the Canyon of Heroes and onto Wall Street proper. Suzanne's amusing anecdotes spanned Dutch colonial times through modern day. Highly recommend to anyone interested in the origins of New York City and all the many things that flowed from its founding in the 1600s.
Thanks, Justin! I'm so glad you found the tour interesting!
I am a retired history teacher who has lived in New York my whole life, and yet I was totally unaware of the back story of lower Manhattan. Ms. Reisman brought its history alive with not just factual information but also colorful anecdotes. I finished the tour having thoroughly enjoyed myself and feeling as if I had gained insider knowledge of the city. I would highly recommend this tour.
Thank you, Patricia! I am so glad you enjoyed the tour!
