Itinerary
We start our morning at the "City in the Clouds." As the premier Zapotec capital, Monte Albán is perched on a hilltop with breathtaking 360-degree views of the surrounding valleys. We’ll walk through the ancient plazas and pyramids while sharing the secrets of the civilization that ruled this land centuries ago. It’s the perfect spot for history buffs and photographers alike.
Next, we visit the "Place of the Gods," a village world-renowned for its hand-woven wool rugs. You’ll step inside a traditional family workshop to see a masterclass in heritage. Learn how raw wool is transformed into art using ancient wooden looms and 100% natural dyes derived from plants and insects, like the famous grana cochinilla.
To truly know Oaxaca, you have to taste it. we’ll make a stop at the bustling Tlacolula Market (or a curated local eatery) for a lunch break. Follow your nose to the best street food stalls—whether you’re craving a crispy tlayuda, rich mole negro, or traditional Oaxacan chocolate, your guide will help you find the most authentic flavors of the region (food not included)
We’ll head deep into the Sierra Mixe mountains to witness one of Mexico’s most stunning natural wonders. These "petrified waterfalls" are massive mineral formations that look like white water cascading down a cliffside, frozen in time. You’ll have plenty of time to hike the trails, take in the views, and soak in the natural mineral pools. Pro tip: Bring your swimsuit and a towel!
We wrap up the day in "Mezcal Espina Dorada." At the legendary distillery, you’ll see the 100% artisanal process—from roasting the agave hearts in underground pits to the final distillation. We’ll end with a guided tasting of over 5 varieties, ranging from smooth classic mezcals to unique flavored creams.

We included English speaking guide and he was excellent- guide knew so much. A very full day. Hierve el agua was perhaps less interesting but the artisanal mescal distillery made that leg worthwhile
