Because we did not have to much time, only 6 hours, we decided to book this tour. The drive is around one hour, but on the way there are a few interesting stops with views of the area: flowers, mountains, troll chair, ships, swans. The foud at the restaurat was delicious. Very good driver, smoth because some people slept on the way. We eenjoy the tour.
I took a lot of pics of the dramatic landscape after every corner. The Viking town is an interesting place to visit. The food at the restaurant was amazing. Very helpful guide and driver. We had some extra stops at the arctic lupin field, red chair troll, reindeer, swans and horses. It was a really nice tour.
This was our most expensive tour we booked in Iceland through TripAdvisor and our most disappointing. It really is just a drive along the road from Djupivogur to Hofn and back. The add on was a stop to take pictures in a field of lupins that are only in bloom for about two weeks out of the year and a surprise visit to a fake viking village movie set -including current day machinery and warning notices that the buildings are not stable. We did start off late as there were issues with getting timely shuttles to port from the cruise ship. Not the fault of the tour guide, but it set the tone for a bad day. The head tour guide was very gruff in her manner and we had several issues with miscommunication regarding the older senior members of our group who had difficulty climbing stairs. There were not planned potty stops along the way and our group all were in need of the WC by the time we arrived in Hofn - we thought we would have time for lunch and shopping etc, and instead the group s from the two vehicles were divided. There was a van -load and her car full of people. It appeared that this was actually two separate tours. The car left for the glaciers and the rest of us were told we were going to the viking village (not on the original itinerary). She told our group that it was a difficult 1 hour walk and the older members couldn't manage it....the reality is there was not enough room in the van for all of our group members with the shuffling of cars and guests. In reality, it was a 20 minute car ride and then an easy 10 minute walk on a flat gravel path to the movie set. Our friends were left to "shop and rest" in Hofn and told to be ready to go at 2:15, we didn't return until 2:40. They sat in the wind and cold waiting for us. The restaurant was full and didn't have space for them as it only seated about 12 people. All day long we were rushed and pushed to go, go, go. There were only two very brief stops for photo ops, and a rushed period for lunch at about 3 pm, otherwise it was a long drive with pretty views, a pre-recorded talk about the area in English and little else. Our driver spoke very little English and we found that there were language barriers with the head guide as well. She did write an apology to our group the next day. If you just want a drive through the countryside - this is for you, if you want time to explore, ask questions and experience this region of Iceland, this isn't the best option.
Dear Jane, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are truly sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations. Following your tour, Adriana contacted you personally to apologize for the misunderstanding regarding your aunt and mother in Höfn. We sincerely regret that they were left waiting longer than expected. This was an unfortunate miscommunication. When your aunt decided not to join the visit to the Viking Village, both she and your mother told our guide that they wanted to visit the grocery store before going to the restaurant. They also confirmed that after shopping they would wait for the group inside the restaurant until our return. Although our guide advised that we expected to return around 2:15 p.m., we arrived later than planned. She believed they were comfortably waiting inside the restaurant and was unaware they had remained outside. We fully understand how this situation led to frustration, and we sincerely apologize for the misunderstanding. We would, however, like to clarify a few points for future travelers. The delayed start to the tour was due to the cruise ship's tender operations, which affected all shore excursions that morning. Once everyone had arrived, we adjusted the itinerary to ensure guests could still experience as many highlights as possible within the available time. The Viking Village is one of the attractions we visit when timing allows. It is reached after a short drive and a long walk on a flat gravel path. Based on the conversation at the harbor, our guide understood that one member of your group had difficulty with stairs and believed she would be more comfortable remaining in Höfn rather than joining the visit. This assumption led to the misunderstanding for which we have already apologized. We would also like to clarify that the group was not divided because of insufficient space in the vehicle. The tour was planned and operated using two vehicles, with every guest having a reserved seat throughout the excursion. Although restroom stops are not specifically scheduled in the itinerary, guests are always welcome to request one, and our guides are happy to accommodate these requests whenever possible. We are also sorry to read that our guide came across as rushed or abrupt. Providing a warm and enjoyable experience is very important to us, and we take comments like yours seriously. At the same time, operating shore excursions requires keeping to a strict schedule so that all guests return safely to their cruise ship on time. Our tour is designed as a scenic excursion showcasing the spectacular coastline of southeast Iceland, including Vestrahorn, seasonal lupin fields when in bloom, Höfn, and, when conditions permit, the Viking Village. We understand that this style of tour may not match every traveler's expectations, and we regret that it did not meet yours. Thank you again for your feedback. We value every review, as it helps us continue improving our tours and the experience we provide to future guests. Kind regards,
We loved the last stop of Glacier Lagoon….interesting, beautiful landscape! The day entailed a lot of driving and we felt we paid more than the value of the trip.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're delighted to hear that you loved the Glacier Lagoon and found its landscape beautiful and memorable. We understand that this tour involves a fair amount of driving, as the Glacier Lagoon is a considerable distance from Djúpivogur. These travel distances are simply part of exploring Iceland's unique landscapes. Regarding the value of the tour, our pricing reflects a private tour with a private vehicle, which is in line with the cost of this type of experience in Iceland. Unlike large bus tours that follow a fixed schedule, our private tours are flexible. We adjust the day according to the weather, road conditions, and timing, allowing guests to spend more time at places they enjoy and making additional stops whenever possible. During your tour, we also included extra photo stops that were not part of the standard itinerary, such as the beautiful Arctic lupin fields, to enhance your experience. We appreciate your feedback and thank you for choosing to explore this part of Iceland with us.
The tour itself was interesting. There were ten of us on the tour (not traveling together as one group) and we were in two cars. The guide was in the other from ours. Our driver was nice enough, he just didn't speak much English and we weren't able to ask him questions. He played a recorded narrative that did provide information about the area. What we didn't care for was that halfway through the tour our guide gave us "an option", did we want to visit a national park to see a glacier up close and see icebergs. It was an "everyone goes or no one goes" deal. Naturally some on the tour wanted to so we all went. The guide told us that this would cost us each an additional 100 Euros. We assumed that was to cover a fee at the park, but there is no fee to enter the park, only a small fee to park the vehicles. We can only assume that our guide simply pocketed the over one thousand dollars she collected from us. We feel the guide should have brought up the subject of the "option" at the beginning of the tour. That way if some wanted they could have been in one vehicle while others who chose the original tour could have been in the other. We were extremely disappointed in how she treated this and find it totally unacceptable.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are pleased to hear that you found the tour interesting. We would like to clarify a few points, as there are some misunderstandings about how the day was organized. Our driver does speak English and is able to communicate with guests. While he may not be as fluent as the guide, guests are always welcome to ask questions, and he does his best to answer them. The recorded commentary is also provided so that all guests receive information about the history, economy, fauna, flora and agriculture of iceland, and about the areas that we will visit, throughout the journey. Regarding the optional visit to Glacier Lagoon and Diamond Beach, this was never presented as an "everyone goes or no one goes" situation. At the beginning of the tour, after speaking with two couples, it became clear that they had expected to visit Glacier Lagoon and Diamond Beach, even though those locations were not included in the tour they had booked. At our first stop, we offered the entire group the opportunity to upgrade the itinerary. The option was explained to everyone, including the additional cost and every guest agreed before we continued. The additional charge was not an entrance fee. The extra cost covered the nearly 200 km of additional driving, the extra time required, fuel, vehicle expenses, and the longer working hours needed to extend the tour beyond the original itinerary. We would also like to clarify that the guide did not personally collect or keep the money. Every guest received an invoice, and all payments were processed by card through our company's official POS terminal. Because the group chose the extended itinerary, we adjusted the schedule to include Glacier Lagoon, Diamond Beach, Vestrahorn, Stokksnes and its beautiful black sand beach, as well as a scenic stop in Höfn overlooking the harbor and glacier views. We always strive to be flexible and provide our guests with the best possible experience, and we appreciate you joining us to explore the spectacular landscapes of southeast Iceland.
There is A LOT of driving. Everything is far away from the port. Also we didn’t even go to the place the tour was for; she charged us $111 extra to go to icebergs. It was nice, but I really wanted to go to the Hofn village.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We understand that there is a significant amount of driving on this tour. In southeast Iceland, the main attractions are spread far apart, and the distances from the cruise port in Djúpivogur are much greater than many visitors expect. South Iceland is especially known for its dramatic natural landscapes—glaciers, waterfalls, black sand beaches, and icebergs—rather than for its small towns. At the start of the tour, while speaking with two couples, I realized they were expecting to visit Glacier Lagoon and Diamond Beach. However, those locations were not included in the tour that had been booked. At our first stop, I offered the entire group the option to upgrade the tour so that everyone could visit Glacier Lagoon and Diamond Beach. This change added nearly 200 km of additional driving compared with the original itinerary, and the additional fee reflected the extra distance, driving time, and operating costs. Because the group chose the upgraded itinerary, we adjusted the schedule accordingly. We still visited Höfn for a scenic stop overlooking the harbor and the surrounding glacier views, but there was not enough time for a longer visit in the village if we were also going to Glacier Lagoon and Diamond Beach. This was explained before the group decided to upgrade the tour. We appreciate your feedback and are glad you enjoyed seeing the icebergs. We always try to be as flexible as possible and offer our guests the opportunity to visit the places they are most interested in while making the best use of the time available.
Great tour even in bad weather. Adriana was great at communication before hand and took us to all the places listed on tour, plus a few extra. Outstanding day!!!
Thank you so much for your kind words! We’re thrilled to hear you enjoyed the tour despite the weather. Adriana will be delighted to know her communication and guiding made the day special for you. We’re glad you got to see all the highlights — plus a few hidden gems along the way. We hope to welcome you back for more adventures in Iceland!
Unless you have Adriana as a driver/ guide, you get NO talking. Our driver said nothing on the way out and back. We learned nothing--not even his name. He did play a tape recording with info about Iceland. I could have done that from home.
Thank you for joining our tour and for taking the time to share your thoughts. Our driver did introduce himself at the start of the trip, as we always do, but we’re sorry if that moment was missed or didn’t come across clearly. The audio commentary you heard was created especially for our tours, with local stories, history, and insights you won’t find on the internet. We use it so that everyone receives accurate, well-researched information while the driver can focus fully on giving you a safe and smooth ride. We truly appreciate your feedback and will share it with our team, as we are always looking for ways to make our tours more personal and engaging. We hope we can welcome you again in the future for an experience that feels even more connected.
