This beautiful old park actually stands on top of the old Roman city, with the 'modern' city sat up on the hill. Impressive sections of the old Roman City Wall can still be seen.
See some of the remaining surviving Roman Walls.
See one of the finest Roman Mosaic floors in Britain, in fact anywhere!
This beautiful old church is 1,000 years old and is Anglo Saxon in origin. Still used today and full of history and character.
Explore the ruins of the old Roman Theatre and shops.
This museum is bursting with Roman objects discovered in the park and city all around.
A contender for the oldest out in Britain which one way or the other has been serving patrons and pilgrims since not that long after the Romans.
This imposing old gate house has an impressive history and one of the hidden gems of this great old city.
Learn the story of our first Christian martyr from Roman times and explore one of the finest Cathedrals in Europe which was once a point of pilgrimage and important Abbey until the times of King Henry VIII.
See this piece of living history from the battlefields of WW1.
The market doesn't run every day but even when it's then, there is so much to see here.
Set at one end of the historic St Albans Market, this tower was built in 1403 and is the only free standing Belfry in Britain.
Enjoy the vibrant City centre of St Albans with its ancient pubs crepieries., buzzing market, high end shopping and laid back vibes. 20 minutes or so by train from London but a worlds away. This is the real England that us locals enjoy so much.

Excellent all round. Good service. Brilliant food, especially Omboo. We were served by Lun, 5 stars. The room v pleasant, brilliant shower, no leaking doors!
We came here to celebrate someone's 60th birthday. The location of the hotel is beautiful. Unfortunately, we didn't book a room to stay-in so I can't comment on the rooms. The restaurant itself was spacious and has a great view of the lake. We came during lunch time. They offer a 2-course and 3-course meal. They also offer a children's menu. Overall, we loved the selection offered to us. The meals we ordered were all delicious. The portions were great too, even for the kids' portions. My kids who are usually picky eaters loved their meals too. On top of this, service was great. The staff are kind. They surprised the celebrant with a bday dessert at the end, and they also kindly gave us milk for my baby's bottle. I definitely would go back to this place again. Remember to book though as it was full when we went.
We had a wonderful and fun tour of St Albans . Our guide Kevin met us at our London hotel and accompanied us by underground and train to charming St Albans. The tour was extensive and covered all the sites we wanted to see related to Roman and medieval history. Kevin is a fountain of knowledge and made our walk so interesting , filling us with facts from Roman times to the present. We considered visiting St Albans on our own, I’m so glad we didn’t as we would not have gotten nearly as much out of the visit as we did with a top notch guide. It was definitely worth the cost of the tour.
Thanks so much for your lovely review Ron. We really appreciate it and I'm so glad that you enjoyed your tour with Kevin. It's such a beautiful and incredible place with so many nooks and crannies. Hopefully very Christmassy for your visit too.
Knowing a bit about Roman London we were curious to learn about Verulamium and the connections with London. We learnt a lot from Lin who was very knowledgeable, friendly and coped well with our lively group! We had the added bonus of a glorious warm day.
Thank-you for your lovely review. St Albans is always a nice place to visit but especially on a perfect day, weather-wise. I'm so glad that you had an enjoyable day.
This was a terrific tour. We had this wonderful guide named Kevin who knew so much about Saint Albans and its history. He was so enthusiastic. He gladly would’ve continued walking and telling us more for as long as we wanted. I was enjoying the tour tremendously and only had to give up because I got tired and couldn’t keep up, even though I was probably 10 years younger than he was! He was very accommodating and made sure we were comfortable and took us for food when we got tired and gave us a great time. Highly recommended.
Thank-you so much for your wonderful review. I'm so glad that you had such a nice time in St Albans. There is so much to see and it's such a beautiful though yes slightly hilly place! St Albans also has plenty of nice old pubs and restaurants so I'm glad you Kevin found you something nice.
An incredibly exciting and interesting place. The day was also enhanced by the very talented guide Kevin, who had an incredibly good service level and great historical knowledge.
Tack så mycket för din fina recension. Jag är så glad att du hade en intressant och bra dag och hade kul med Kevin också. Thank-you very much for your kind review. I'm so glad that you had an interesting and good day and had fun with Kevin too.
Had many visits to special events held at the Cathedral & all have been excellent. Always keep an eye out for their events which never disappoint
Our guide, Kevin, was well informed and entertaining so it was a pleasure to spend the day with him . We live near St Albans, VT so this tour was a must in our travel plans. We were in awe to be standing in Roman ruins, evidence of the forward thinking of Roman engineers (for example, we don't have radiant flooring though some of our neighbors do). Kevin brought to life the wonder of a farmer plowing his field and finding a Roman ampitheater. That doesn't happen here! There is a wonderful medieval church (we couldn't get enough of the churches),and other high points of the local history he didn't want us to miss.He also recommended lunch in an amazing waffle restaurant. Sadly we did not have enough time to tour the Roman museum - that would have required an overnight , or second trip. well worth the expense of the private tour.
I'm so glad that you enjoyed your trip to St. Albans with Ye Olde England Tours. It is such an incredible place and yet comparatively few people visit it as the big coach companies don't go there. There is so much to see with the Roman sights, the churches and magnificent Abbey and just the general vibe of the old streets, markets and pubs. You're always welcome to return one day and I'm sure Kevin would be delighted to pick-up right where you left off. Thanks for such a nice review.
