Description

The Play That Goes Wrong has a long way from its early performances at the Red Lion Theatre. It’s now the longest-running West End comedy, and put British comedy troupe Mischief Theatre on the map. They’re the brains behind farcical plays like The Comedy About a Bank Robbery and Peter Pan Goes Wrong. Their original play continues to leave audiences in fits of laughter. London Theatre couldn’t stop giggling throughout the show, saying “It's divinely daft, gloriously preposterous and utterly silly.” When The Play That Goes Wrong premiered, the show was hailed as “a substantial little hit.” Now look at it fly! It's set to be the society's shining moment; The Mousetrap, eat your heart out. If only they could make it through a show without the set burning down that is. The hapless cast struggle to remember where they're meant to be, props are misplaced or broken and lines are frequently forgotten. Basically, everything that could go wrong, does. But can the play that goes wrong… go right?

Great Fun Watching This!

Had a great time watching The Play That Goes Wrong at London’s Duchess Theatre. The “bumbling” actors carried off their roles to great comic effect, and I thoroughly enjoyed the laughs! Quite amazing how the “sliding” platform looked so realistic! And the lighting/sound, etc., guy was roped in too! Hilarious!!!

Must See

This is one of the finest shows on at the West End at the moment - I've seen it four times and will definitely see it again in the future. The comedy is first class, timing is impeccable and there's not a dull moment to be had.

Hilariously good even on several rewatches

The Play that Goes Wrong is possibly the most hilarious comedy about theatre you will encounter. Not only is it well timed slapstick at its best, but also wonderful acting in a story so delightfully idiotic, Agatha Christie would throw her hands up in shame. The play within the play “The Murder at Haversham Manor” is a clever pastiche of classic closed room whodunnits. Think The Mousetrap but with every cliched British manor house trope you can shake a stick at, performed by a drama society in over their heads with a director having delusions of grandeur. The chaos that ensues both in exceptional physical comedy and wonderful wordplay is a must see. It has everything from misplaced props, malfunctioning sets, improvised lines, actors who think they are gods present to the Thespian community and directors that take themselves as the next Orson Wells. Everyone who has ever been involved in community theatre, will find more than one aspect that screams “Yup, been there, done that.” As with all Mischief productions, if you are in the mood for a side splitting good time, get yourself a ticket and simply enjoy.

Great family fun!

Our family of 4 LOVED this play! We laughed through the whole thing, including the bits prior to the start and during the intermission. The actors were wonderfully talented and the story was clever and hilarious.
