The History of Athens: Greek Mythology Private Tour

This tour was excellent! We got to see and learn about parts of Athens that we would not otherwise have seen. Our guide also gave us suggestions on where the best places to eat. Highly recommend tour.

Alex was a very knowledgeable and friendly guide. He was very good at explaining and making it interesting. We truly enjoyed our time with him and would highly recommend thos tour.

The tour guide NEVER showed up!!!! Contacting the tour operator was useless. They never responded to the chat.

Makram was a very gracious, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic guide. He clearly knew his stuff, and he introduced us to many interesting neighborhoods we didn’t know about. However, his passion for history and need to share it with us sometimes made him unaware that we were standing in the direct sunlight on an indiscriminate street corner for twenty minutes at a time. Don’t hesitate to interupt him and suggest that you move to the shade or a more interesting location. We were a little drained from information overload and the sun.

Our Guide was most energetic and knowledgeable and walked us round some of the most interesting places: it was a very hot day and he was conscious of our need for protection from the Sun as well. When we stopped and had a drink with him we found his conversation very enjoyable. it was very good and we were privileged to be in the company of a true local. he also added to our experience by emailing us details of some interiors which being Sunday we had been unable to get into.

Markella was an excellent guide! It was Greece’s Independence Day so very busy, but she weaved us through the crowds to show us all the cool historical spots in Plaka. She was knowledgeable with Greek history while weaving in mythology aspects as well. She took us up hills to see little houses outside of Plaka too and Olympic area. Superb!

In accordance with our requests our guide in a enthusiastic way gave us a walking tour with interesting details of both the old and new history of Athens and Greece.

Amazing experience! Markella is an excellent guide! We had a great time! She is able to explain the history and mythology of Greece at the same time, you need to understand both, so that everything makes sense. Also her vibe and recommendations of places to visit and eat are totally worth it! If i were you, i wouldn’t hesitate on doing it.

This was not a mythology tour. Our guide talked almost exclusively about modern Greek history. After two hours of trying to re-direct him back to mythology and seeing only one of the seven stops that were listed on the "what to expect" section, we gave up and cut the tour off. It was a very disappointing (and expensive) way to spend our last day in Athens.

Honestly the tour was a bit awkward and I really think the experience and knowledge is made by having the right tour guide. Unfortunately, ours wasn't great and she didn't know much about mythology at all. I booked the tour for my mythology loving partner and our tour guide didn't tell us any mythology information, I even had to ask her about her favourite God to which she didn't have much to say. We also don't feel like we saw all the things mentioned on the itinerary/potentially went a different route (if we did, they weren't pointed out and we certainly didn't hear about the God's related to that place). There were lots of awkward silences where I was trying to fill by asking about her background and favourite places in Athens. It felt more like a friend of a friend walking you around some nice places with not much information. All in all, I think it is luck of the draw with tour guides - I did not find any reviews mentioning the lady who took us around so not sure if it was her usual tour. In comparison we did a group tour around and up the Acropolis where the guide was energetic, informative and captivating for 20% of the price - this private tour was not worth the price.
