Description

On this self-guided walking tour, you'll discover how Britain's only publicly accessible Beaver reintroduction project is revolutionising flood management, biodiversity, and community engagement. You’ll hear how it evolved from an ecological dead zone into a thriving wetland ecosystem, and witness firsthand the extraordinary impact of bringing back a keystone species extinct in Britain for over 400 years. The tour starts at Paradise Fields, a sunken basin that was once farmland, then a golf course, before being converted to wetland in 2000 to mitigate flood risk. You'll weave along the Capital Ring path, exploring beaver-engineered landscapes from viewing platforms and woodland workshops. You'll learn how these industrious ecosystem engineers are tackling urban flooding while creating diverse habitats that have attracted rare butterflies, Water Rails, Cuckoos and more back to this once-degraded site.

Guided walk / RSPB birdwatch

We went along as a result of seeing on the BBC show and ended up on a guided walk. The volunteers (sorry I can't remember their names) were very helpful, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Didn't see the beavers as they are nocturnal, but learnt a lot about them and saw lots of evidence, plus birdlife. Will come back for one of the evening tours in the summer. Thanks for a really pleasant morning and keep up the good work!
