Spectacularly perched on the side of a mountain, Taormina is one of Sicily's most popular destinations all year round. It's rich in history, art, culture and tradition, located in one of the most breathtaking spots of the whole country. Founded in the 4th century BC, Taormina enjoyed great prosperity under the Greek ruler Gelon II and later under the Romans but fell into quiet obscurity after being conquered by the Normans in 1087. Its reincarnation as a tourist destination dates to the 18th century, when northern Europeans discovered it on the Grand Tour. Among its fans was DH Lawrence, who lived here between 1920 and 1923. With this 2-hour private guided tour, you will enjoy the most important treasures of the town. You'll explore some famous sites and admire the stunning signs of the Roman and Greek eras all around you. You'll get to see the Ancient Greek Theatre, the Piccolo Teatro Odeon, the Corvaia Palace, Corso Umberto and Porta Messina among other things.

We met our guide, Valentina, who walked us around the town, showing us various points of interest from the narrow streets, churches, palaces, the square out side the church and library and the clock tower. We even had time to visit the tranquil public gardens designed by Lady Trevelyan. Valentina was friendly and gave us lots of tips on the best restaurants to try and other attractions to visit. One of these was Castlemola a truly fascinating village high above Taormina with spectacular views. Grazie Valentina, thank you for taking the time to spend the morning with us and sharing your wealth of knowledge.

We had a terrific time with our tour guide Dina. She showed us all around the city. We also went to the ruins, which was cool. We stopped in several shops to look at the artisans work & spoke with a couple. Everyone was very welcoming, offering us samples of their food items (YUM!). We had just got in from our flight, so we were a bit fatigued from having to get up so early for our transport to the airport. We can't wait to see more of this quaint town, sample more food (we already tried one of her recommendations for our first meal here) & get to know more of the locals.

I believe our guide’s name was Valentina. She was one of the best guides we have ever had. Her knowledge of Taormina’s history, ruins and culture was incredible. If I could give Valentina and this gorgeous city 100 stars, it would not be enough.

The tour of the Greek Theater was nice and the tour guide was pleasant and informative. But overall, somewhat underwhelming and not good value for the money. Guide finished tour after 1:40 rather than full 2 hours.

Maria Rosa was a terrific tour guide. She gave the perfect amount of information - enough to provide a deeper understanding of Taormina but not too much to overwhelm us. She somehow managed to keep our 2 teenage boys engaged for the entire 2 hours. Definitely worth it!!!

<p>Really enjoyed this tour, perfect balance between informative and entertaining - the sort of great overview that engages you enough to immediately start reading more about the in-depth history. Covering the greek, roman, norman, and arab influences in culture and architecture, and our wonderful guide was friendly and patient especially after a false start when our taxi drops us off at Porto Catania rather than Porto Messina and brought the tour to life.</p> <p>A particular highlight is the greek/roman theatre, which aside from having an interesting history itself, features a view that has to be seen to be believed.</p>
<p>Our tour was terrific. Sarah was a wonderful and very knowledgeable guide. The Ancient Greek Theatre was the highlight of the tour and the views from there were incredible. She even gave us suggestions for restaurants for lunch. And she was right on! The best pizza ever!<br/> Highly recommend.</p>
