Our hotel was located not far from the Tahrir Square so when we were walking about we stopped to check it out. It is quite impressive.
Tahir Square has been the focus of many political demonstrations. This square was the focus of thousands of Egyptians demanding change and forcing Hosni Mubarak out of office after 30 years in power. It was the Egyptian “Arab Spring.” This uprising was backed by the military; however, they took the opportunity to place el-Sisi in the office of President. The Egyptians remain disgruntled because el-Sisi’s regime has been described as even more strict than Mubarak’s.
I was staying in a hotel near this iconic Tahrir Square. Most happening place in Cairo with crowds moving around and also many important monument, museums nearby. Many historical incidents happened at this Square and part of rich traditions of Egypt. Presently a new monument, an ancient obelisk from era of Ramses II adorn the place. There are many eateries, restaurants, shops around this square and also a metro station.
