We had the best day with Evan. We got lucky with only 3 of us on our tour and no crowds at any of the tourist sights. The weather was ideal, lunch spectacular and the wine tasting perfect. Highly recommend!!!
We had an excellent experience with Alternative Routes! The tour was well organized, offered great value, and visited some beautiful locations while giving us plenty of time to explore without feeling rushed. A huge thank you to our tour guide and driver, Meg, who made the entire day enjoyable. She was friendly, professional, and incredibly knowledgeable about the area, sharing interesting stories and local history throughout the trip. Meg kept everything running smoothly, made everyone feel welcome, and was always happy to answer questions. Her enthusiasm and organization really made the experience memorable. I would highly recommend Alternative Routes to anyone visiting Nova Scotia. If you’re lucky enough to have Meg as your guide, you’re in for a fantastic day!
Very well organized, Evan was simply awesome and so knowledgeable! Very lovely and enjoyable. The places were beautiful!
A pleasant day trip that we loved. Very informative about a wide variety of topics. We got to see a lot of Nova Scotia, but the long drive was broken up into manageable pieces. We highly recommend it!
Great day out. Despite fog and rain Meg provided an excellent tour and the small group size made it flexible. Nice bit of history and recommendations on how to enjoy our stay. HIGHLY recommend.
We joined the June 1st Small Group Tour to Peggy's Cove, Lunenburg, the Annapolis Valley, and the Bay of Fundy, and all we can say is: WOW! Our guide, Evan, went absolutely above and beyond from start to finish. It was an absolute pleasure spending the day with him. His knowledge is simply incredible — honestly, it felt like there wasn't a single topic he couldn't talk about. History, local culture, nature, photography, food, hidden gems — you name it, Evan knew it. What impressed us most was not just how much he knows, but the passion he brings to every story. He shared so many fascinating local stories and insights that there's simply no way you would ever hear unless you were talking to someone who has dedicated years of his life to learning and sharing them. That passion made all the difference and turned a great tour into an extraordinary experience. The entire day flew by in the blink of an eye! Evan also gave us countless recommendations for places to visit during the rest of our trip, which we greatly appreciated. We visited beautiful places including Peggy's Cove, Lunenburg, the Bay of Fundy, and many other stunning locations. Along the way, we enjoyed some of the best lobster we've ever had in our lives, delicious local ice cream, breathtaking scenery, and unforgettable memories. And then came the biggest surprise! As a special bonus, completely outside of the regular tour itinerary, Evan took us on what felt like a mini photography adventure. We were incredibly lucky to see a real Bald Eagle nest, including the eagle and its babies! It was such a magical moment and something we never expected to experience. Moments like that simply cannot be planned, and Evan made it happen. To top it all off, he gave us a Polaroid photo as a keepsake. Such a unique and thoughtful touch that made the experience even more special. We could keep going, but we don't want to spoil everything. 😊 If you're considering this tour, stop thinking and just book it. Evan made this one of the best travel experiences we've ever had, and we will remember it for years to come. Thank you, Evan, for an amazing day and unforgettable memories! Alex & Mary, Wow. Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a thoughtful review. Reviews like this mean the world to a small company like ours, but I know they’ll mean even more to Evan. One of the things we care most about at Alternative Routes is creating days that feel personal rather than rushed, so hearing that you left with unforgettable memori is exactly what we hope for. Evan genuinely loves Nova Scotia and never seems to run out of stories to tell, so I’m not at all surprised he found you a Bald Eagle nest along the way. Those unexpected moments are often the highlights of a trip, and we’re so glad you got to experience one. Thank you again for choosing to spend part of your Nova Scotia adventure with us, and for sharing such kind words. We hope our paths cross again someday! Safe travels, Sam & the Alternative Routes Team
We were picked up promptly at our hotel by Ian at the promised time. He was friendly, very knowledgeable , polite and helpful. The tour was better than expected. On the way to each place he pointed out different places and told us what we should not miss at each spots. Great recommendations,
“Better than expected” is exactly what we’re going for. Not “about what I expected.” Not “slightly disappointing.” Better than expected. Thanks for the kind words!
Ian was an excellent guide. Very knowledgeable, very friendly and courteous. Gladly recommend
We were going to correct the title, but “highly rsted” sounds like a prestigious travel award and we’d hate to lose it. Thanks for the kind words about Ian. We’ll pass them along and try not to let it go to his head.
We had a wonderful time. Ian was our guide. He had so many stories and facts to share with us about the places we were visiting. The views were really beautiful and the history was captivating.
Thank you for the kind words! Ian has never met a Nova Scotia story he didn’t want to tell, so we’re delighted to hear you enjoyed them as much as he enjoys sharing them. 😄 Thanks for joining us and helping make his fact collection feel useful.
Fabulous day. Out guide was very knowledgeable and we enjoyed learning about the history of Nova Scotia. Peggys Cove and Lunenburg were my favourite stops but we did enjoy the scenery all along the coast
Thanks for the wonderful review! Peggy’s Cove and Lunenburg get most of the postcards, but we agree—the scenery between the stops deserves a little love too. We’ll pass your kind words along to Ian, who has somehow managed to turn an encyclopedic knowledge of Nova Scotia into a full-time job. Thanks for joining us!
