Start in Bergen, leaving the harbor and Bryggen behind as you head east on the E16. The road quickly opens into countryside with lakes, hills, and the first hints of the mountain ranges that guard the western fjords. You will see the city give way to open landscapes, with glimpses of the sea or distant peaks in almost every direction.

About 1–1.5 hours from Bergen, you arrive in Voss. Travelers will see the town nestled between Vangsvatnet lake and high‑altitude slopes, with ski areas and hiking trails rising above.

A little further along the E16, you reach Tvindefossen, a 116‑meter “twin” waterfall that plunges down a steep rock face just steps from the road.
