Perfect all day Isle of Skye experience. Start early in the morning from Inverness (pack a breakfast and bring something to drink). Comfortable and easy to access mini bus. Our Guide was Tim-he was incredibly knowledgeable, wove together the past and present along with witty stories. -light hike to a waterfall -moderate hike to the fairy pools (about an hour). You can choose the pace and how far you hike but the main path in/out is a moderately steep incline. -get the ticket to see the castle. It’s beautiful. You can eat lunch at the cafe and it’s good but it will take away from seeing the castle and grounds. Pack a sandwich and spend time more time in the castle. -walk around Portree and see the beautiful town. Lots of artisan shops. -brief stops to view some castles and beautiful views on the way back to Inverness. It’s a full day but you get to spend a good amount of time at the individual sites. Tim was a great storyteller and also very attentive to the needs of everyone on the tour. Wear comfortable waterproof shoes w good grip, dress in layers with a waterproof jacket (rain hat that secures under chin was super helpful), don’t bother w an umbrella-too windy. You can leave your bag on the bus so you don’t have to lug things around.
Bottom Line: highly recommend Fantastic tour. It was the perfect pace. We felt like we had enough time at each stop to truly soak up Isle of Skye. Our guide, Tim, was knowledge, funny, and organized. He did a great job of communicating timing and locations. He was a wealth of knowledge about the area, not just superficial basics but truly merged the past with the present… and his playlist was perfection. Cannot recommend this tour enough. There are some portions that are a bit more physically challenging but you explore at your pace so as long as you can walk without assistance (or can walk distances w a cane or walking polls) you can do this tour. I would suggest that if you get motion sickness you pop a Dramamine and arrive early to sit in the front of the bus. Highland roads are twisty and bumpy but the mini bus was super comfy. There are tons of bathroom and viewing stops which was nice. You can also leave things on the van while you explore which makes it so much easier. You can pick up breakfast and snacks before the tour (just no hot food on the mini van due to smells-so appreciated). There are also a number of stops to grab coffee and a bite. Dunvegan castle has a pretty tasty cafe but it takes some time off your exploring as it gets busy and there’s a wait.
The guide Iain was greate: he managed to add the fairy atmosphere to the different attractions, with local tales and historical data. He also was able to answer and assist unsupportable people who came late and created delays.
I had an amazing experience in thus tour specially with the tour guide karen. The tour was very nicely managed and it was full of different experiences. Karen was a very helpful and knowledgeable guide tour, she kept everyone smiling and kept the spirits high. Would love to recommend this tour and specially with the guide tour Karen.
Karen was a wonderful driver and tour guide! Gorgeous day excursion, comfortable and much easier than driving yourself!
Karen picked us up on time and sorted the dozens of other people that couldn’t figure out which bus to go on. Throughout the whole 12/13 hour tour, Karen has been high energy, excited, and given us some INCREDIBLE stories about Scotland’s history and even some from her own personal experiences. She even gave us a detailed description of some traditional Scottish foods to try. She is so fun, so kind, and so funny. 10/10 would highly recommend!
