Itinerary
As everybody knows, the eruption of the 79AD has been fatal to thousands of people living in the areas of Pompeii and Herculaneum, two of the most ancient Roman cities, whose excavations have allowed archaeologists and anthropologists to actually get a large spectrum range of knowledge of the behaviours and the habits of the time. In this comparative journey, your guide will highlight the particular character and the uniqueness of each city, picturing the past and making it coming back to life. In Pompeii you will be shown the magnificence of the amphitheatre acoustics, walk onto the original pavement of the streets, enter into the shops and the ancient fast food restaurants. As well, the setting of the houses and the richness of their frescoes will leave you astonished. Your path will then lead you to the red-light district and the Forum – the main square, where the political, religious, artistic and social aspects of the Roman life used to intertwine.
On the other side, even though smaller than Pompeii, Herculaneum has been recognised as a wealthier centre of activity and interest. From the private houses to the thermal baths ,the richness of the luxurious frescoes and mosaics shows the special character and style of this small city set on the Vesuvius slopes. Furthermore, the real peculiarity of the city is the wooden structure of the ceilings, the doors and many other items you can find into the houses – for instance the chairs – that have been literally burned and then preserved by the lava and the ashes: you will see them still standing and in really good conditions. This amazing walking tour will definitely absorb you into the ancient times lifestyle – a real once in a lifetime experience! Get ready, and don't forget to bring your camera with you!

We are four friends interested in history and wanted to get a real feel for Pompeii and Herculaneum. Our guide was Catello aka Lello. He was brilliant, mixing incredible in-depth knowledge of both sites, with humour and a style of delivery that held us interested for five hours across both sites. By having Lello guide us, it turned what might have been a tour of some interesting archaeological sites into a fascinating afternoon which gave us a much greater insight into the lives of the people of the two towns, how they lived and the events of 79AD. We would thoroughly recommend having a private tour - it was worth every cent.
We had a private tour for 5 people with Elaria (apologies - I don't think I've spelt this right!). She is an archeologist who has worked on the Pompeii dig and now instructs students who come there to study. She tailored the tour perfectly to our interests and her english was excellent. Elaria provided us with many interesting insights about the site and lots of fascinating facts that we wouldn't have picked up from walking around with an audio guide. She was totally engaged with our group and was happy to answer our questions. We had a great day and would highly recommend to anyone that a private tour is the way to go! Only wish we'd booked her for longer!
We had visited Pompeii previously but this time decided on a guided tour to get more out of it. We were not disappointed, our guide, Antonio, was first class. He tailored the visits to suit our preferences, was extremely knowledgeable and informative and was superb throughout. We were able to experience the ruins through his eyes which was fantastic, not only for myself and my wife but also for our 12 year old son. We would use him on our next trip.
We've visited Pompei and Herculaneum sites in a full day private tour with Salvo. Briefly said, he made our experience unforgettable. Not only was he a great professional with a deep knowledge of History, Life and Ancient Languages but also very kind and always taking care that we (specially my 9 years old daughter) could follow and enjoy. If you are looking for a guide. Don't look anymore. We were first introduced on what we were about to see, then we coould enjoy the places and with his explanations it seemed that the city was still alive. You have to take into account that sites are quite big and you need to know your way. If guided, you just need to concentrate on how things were so many centuries ago. He pointed out which places to visit in Pompeii and Herculaneum. Very remarkable his translations of ancient latin inscriptions. I had very high expectations and they were more than fulfilled. I also want to say that the booking process with Fabiana was also great. She gave us all kind of options and recommendations, transport options, type of visit, allowing that both our target and the budget were matched.
