The production of leather goods and slippers in Marrakech is a central part of its artisan tradition, concentrated in specialized sections of the souk. The traditional Moroccan leather slippers are the most famous footwear. The main area for these is Souk Smata (the Slipper Souk). Artisans, or Mâalem, hand-stitch these distinctive, often pointed-toe, soft leather slippers, which are displayed in a dazzling array of colors and are available in both simple and elaborately embroidered designs
Souk Haddadine, in the medina of Marrakech, is the traditional blacksmiths’ market where artisans craft lanterns, tools, and ironwork using age-old techniques, filling the alley with the rhythmic sound of hammer on metal.
Dyers section in Marrakech is the vibrant dyers’ market where wool and textiles hang overhead in brilliant shades, showcasing traditional dyeing techniques that have colored the medina for generations.

Mohammed was an incredible guide! As a native of Marrakech, his passion for the city and deep knowledge of its history, culture, and artisans truly made the experience unforgettable. For the best shopping experience, I recommend telling your guide at the beginning what types of items you’re looking for and your budget. Whether you’re interested in luxury pieces, mid range finds, or budget friendly souvenirs, they’ll tailor the experience to fit your preferences. It was fascinating to see the craftsmanship behind the handmade rugs, pewter, leather, and other locally made goods. Being able to compare the quality, materials, and pricing firsthand gave me a real appreciation for the artistry. Along the way, Mohammed shared local history and cultural insights that made each stop even more meaningful. This is such a unique, fun, and informative experience. If you enjoy shopping, culture, and learning about local craftsmanship, this tour is a must. I would absolutely do it again!
awesome! showed us really great quality stuff and one of one unique pieces! even in the hot weather our purchases made it worth it !! no pressure from the vendors and very informative!
I loved my visit with Mohammed! He took the time to answer all the questions, and I learned a lot of things. I recommend it!
Our tour Guide Ali was great. Showed us a great variety of places and gave us the history of each area of the Souk. Had the opportunity to buy various bits, but with no pressure at all. Would recommend!
Great place to shop, as there is a great variety of shops.
Our shopping trip with Mohammed was wonderful. He was on time, very helpful, and clearly knew the shopkeepers well. We enjoyed visiting different shops, including quieter backstreet spots where the owners were happy to negotiate, which made the experience even more fun. Mohammed helped us get great prices, and we found some fantastic gifts.
Tour of the souks in the Medina as planned but few cultural insights related to traditions. Discrete linguistic mastery
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on your recent tour of the Medina. I am glad that we were able to complete the itinerary as planned. But it was hard to find Italian guide!
Mo our guide was great . He was very entertaining and made our trip around the hustle and bustle of the souk a very pleasant experience.
Thank you so much for the kind words! It was a pleasure showing you through the hustle and bustle of the souks. I’m thrilled to hear that you had a pleasant experience and that we could find some great moments together!
We have traveled the globe extensively, and normally, we explore it on our own. Given the complexity and size of the Medina, and our desire to find quality crafts, we decided to hire Mohamed for a private tour. This was hands down the best private shopping tour we have ever taken. At the outset, we explained what we were desiring. He wove us deep into the heart of the Medina - areas where there were no tourists, just local craftspeople - and we found absolute gems to take home. From tapestries, to pottery - all with the aid of Mohamed’s expert knowledge and interpretation - an absolute pleasure. Book this now. It will save you time, money, and frustration. Awesome!
Ismail was incredibly welcoming and kind and gave us a wonderful tour of the souks. We got to see local spice markets, dyeing places, how argan oil was made, and much more, and had plenty of time to stop and buy anything we wanted to. The people at the argan oil place gave us lovely tea. We enjoyed the local input to things that Ismail gave us, and it was really interesting to learn about the history of Marrakesh and about why things are built in certain ways. Really really recommend this to other people and huge thank you to Ismail for the wonderful tour.
