Shopping experience in Marrakech souks

My family enjoyed a wonderfully organized private tour of Morocco through Morocco Private Expert. Abdel and Noura coordinated planning expertly and seamlessly and accommodated my preferences. They provided helpful tips on hotels and restaurants but let me do my own research as well. I was impressed by the level of attention and detail before and during our trip. My family thoroughly enjoyed our time with our personal driver and guide, who were professional, friendly, knowledgeable, and extremely helpful. The itinerary and activities were well-balanced. We look forward to visiting the beautiful country again in the future and hope to use this excellent company again!

We had Noura as our tour guide for a 3 hour Souks tour. We were a group of 3 adults and 4 children. She took us to some main stops, an apothecary, a rug makers, woodworking and silks. These all had demonstrations of their work and history behind it. It was so fun, and Noura helped us bargain some great deals along the way in the rest of the souks. We saw metal workers on the way, and stopped at some beautiful other stalls. Nora was happy to tailer the visit to what we were interested in and gave us a really good insight into Marrakech as a city. Hospitality was top notch even though the owners were all practicing Ramadan. Noura was especially great with our children, getting them little gifts and really helping us keep them entertained and keeping them safe in such a busy environment. We would definitely recommend Noura as a tour guide, especially as she was passionate about women's crafts and supporting women, which absolutely matched our ethos.

Noura gave us an excellent tour of the best places to buy items we were interested in. She is very warm and informative about the culture and history of Morocco and paced the tour nicely. I would recommend her to others Highlight of the tour was the Majorelle garden and her information about the garden. Having a private guide also saved a lot of time navigating and by passing long lines.

The first time you enter the Marrakech market your head is spinning; you don't know which way to turn or who to trust. The second time you enter the market you take Noura with you. We made a shopping list -- rugs, leather goods, jewelry, antiques -- and Noura led the way to exactly what we were looking for in terms of quality and craftsmanship. You do your own bidding while she waits patiently for you to conclude business before moving on to the next stop. Along the way she provides the history of the Medina, pulls back the curtain on craftsmen working behind the scenes, and answers any and all of your questions on all things Moroccan. A surprisingly pleasant way to spend a few hours in chaotic surroundings.

We had an interesting tour of the Medina of Marrakech accompanied by this Guide. Very useful to start your journey so that you know what important benchmarks are (and therefore you do not get lost because Google Maps does not work optimally in all the small streets), what the local customs, norms and values are and you understand something about the history and economy of the country and this city. This female Moroccan Guide had studied English and therefore spoke good English. We chose to walk along the souks with her and we enjoyed it. While we appreciated her introducing us to some store owners, that did give a commercial touch to the tour. Keep in mind that it will be appreciated if you buy something in those stores.

Your first walk through the Marrakech market square and adjoining souks -- on your own or as part of a group touring Morocco -- is intimidating and mind-numbing. If you are a serious shopper, with a clear idea of what you are looking for but have no idea which way to turn, allow Noura to guide you through a successful shopping experience. Before our return to the marketplace, we customized our shopping list (rugs, leather goods, jewelry, original craftmanship, yes please! herbs, spices, cosmetics, clothes, no thank you!), and the agreeable Noura took it from there. Thank you Noura for leading us to the "good stuff", parting the curtains to reveal the artisans hard at work, and sharing your knowledge and passion for Morocco.
