The 2-hour tour is led by a film-expert guide, who’ll introduce you to sites like Somerset House, the fictional Diogenes Club and more, used in adaptations like Guy Ritchie’s 2009 film ‘Sherlock Holmes,’ as well as the 1979 thriller ‘Murder by Decree.’ So, book now! As the man himself would say: ‘It’s elementary, my dear Watson.’

Tour Options

Sherlock Holmes Walk 10:30am

Itinerary

20 min

The tour ends at Somerset House, to see the site that was used as Pentonville Prison in the 2009 film. While the grand Neo-Classical façade of the building couldn’t be more different to the real-life prison, your guide will bring scenes from the film to life with tales of the baddie who was held there – Lord Blackwood. When your Sherlock Holmes tour of London is over, finish your tour here overlooking the River Thames - the artery that runs through the city of Sherlock Holmes.

20 min

Meet your guide at Piccadilly Circus in central London, and then set off on your walking tour, hearing about Sherlock Holmes – the fictional sleuth from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s late 19th-century stories. The escapades of the deerstalker-clad detective were so popular that film adaptations followed the books, and filming sites are now scattered around the capital. See the place where the eccentric Sherlock Holmes first met Dr Watson – his loyal friend and adviser – and hear trivia about the 1979 thriller

15 min

Murder by Decree, which featured the pair. Visit the Royal Academy building, which was used in the film, and stroll around some of the pubs and grand hotels that were mentioned in the books. Your guide will entertain you with insider gossip about different iterations of Sherlock Holmes productions including Guy Ritchie’s 2009 film Sherlock Holmes, starring Robert Downey Junior, followed by a walk to the Diogenes Club as seen in BBC Sherlock – a fictional gentleman’s club where a strict no-talking rule was imposed. After stopping for photos outside, you'll see numerous locations linked with the famous detective.

Thank you Owen‼️

Owen was a great guide. The three-hour walking tour was tough in the 5/30 but unexpected 28C heat, but Owen was thoughtful, taking us to the shade and explaining. I wanted to give her a tip, but she didn't have the cash, so I just gave her a chocolate snack. I'm sorry. I enjoyed being such a great guide that I could tip a lot.

We recommend this tour if you are interested in learning about Arthur Conan Doyle and the filming of the stories

We went on the Sherlock Holmes movie tour with our guide Owen. We weren't sure what to expect as we really enjoyed the films and tv series but are not super fans, however we really enjoyed the tour. Owen was very easy to hear and understand, the pace was good and there was so much fascinating information about London and SherlockArthur Conan Doyle it was brilliant. The locations were not too far from each other either, which was good as it was very hot.

Fantastic tour with a fantastic guide Owen

Owen was fantastic. The tour has been a great pleasure, especially with the tour guide Owen. It has been incredibly interesting learning about a great variety of Sherlock Holmes adaptions and subsequently about the not only the History of London as a filming hotspot but also of the gentleman's club culture parallel to the adaptations. The insights of where Arthur Conan Doyle has got his inspiration of were very inspiring and helped obtain a far deeper understanding of the adaptions aswell as novels that help get the feeling of the whole story across on a deeper level. The Tour guide (Owen) has been great aswell, making it exciting and sparkling it with humour aswell as wit turning it into an Overall even better experience. He was motivated aswell as motivating at all time making it more vivid. With his knowledge that by far exceeded our expectations he really made the tour even more special than it already is. We definitely recommend this tour to anyone interested in the story behind Sherlock Holmes aswell as his connection to the city no matter what age you are.
