Itinerary
For over 20 years, the wardens here trained young orangutans, who had been orphaned or rescued from captivity, how to survive in the wild. The success of this programme has left the surrounding forest reserve with a thriving population of healthy adolescent and young adult orang utans, who are now breeding in the wild. The programme has been transferred to Matang Wildlife Centre, but Semenggoh is still home to its successful graduates, semi-wild orang utans and their babies. They spend most of their time roaming the forest but frequently come back to the Centre for a free meal. If it is the fruiting season in the forest, some or even all of them may not come to feed. This in itself is a good sign and another step on the way to full rehabilitation. Semenggoh Wildlife Centre is home to semi – wild orang utans where they are trained to fend for themselves in their natural surrounding. Some or even all the orang utans may not come to the centre to feed ( 0900hrs / 1500hrs ) especially if it is fruiting season in the forest. Tour start and proceed for 20 minutes’ drive to Semenggoh Wildlife Centre. The Centre is the biggest Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre in Sarawak that established in 1975 as a sanctuary for the injured and orphaned Orang Utans. These animals are trained or re-trained to survive in their natural habitat. They learn how to forage for natural food and build nests in the trees. However there are few that will never re-learn their wild skills due to their long association with and resulting dependence on humans. Take a walk on the trails and try to spot semi-wild Orang Utans. There are feeding times scheduled every day at the feeding platform. However always bear in mind that the main aim of the Centre is to return these animals back into their habitat. Do not be disappointed if you do not see any roaming the jungles or coming back to feed as this means they are able to forage on their own and do not need human assistance.

Amazing experience seeing the wildlife in their natural habitat. Would highly recommend
Sensational, we opted to take the morning tour and we were not disappointed.. we arrived. Ticketing was easy. We caught the electric buggy down to the bottom of the hill and right then and there a massive orangutan sliding down a tree into his natural environment. It was surreal. It was amazing! It was astonishing... We saw 3 separate orangutang popping in... Absolutely breathtaking.. From what we understood there isn't any guarantee to see the orangutang. The property sits in 650 acres and the orangutang roam freely, the rangers lay out fruit on the ground and that is that.. Today was brilliant
Great experience to see the primal utangs, you notice that the staff have hard for the animals! We have therefore been 2x
This was definitely the highlight of our stay in Sarawak. There was a lot of waiting around but when you can see orangutans, who really cares? Very well organised although it didn't feel that Semenggoh was open long enough to experience all the walks there, which was a bit weird. Very, very glad we took the tram because the walk to the feeding platform is a long one - especially in the heat. Our driver/guide from Klook was very knowledgeable and pointed out orangutan nests and when branches were moving showing activity. He knew the history as well and explained how the alpha male became the alpha male. He also explained the dynamics of the troop well. We were delighted that a mum and baby showed up. They kept the park open a bit longer so we could see them properly. It was amazing. Then a very steep upward climb to the cafe/giftshop and the tram back to the carpark!
Fantastic experience to see orangutans so close in the jungle. What beautiful animals in their natural habitat
A truly unforgettable experience. I went as part of a World Challenge tour group to Semenggoh in July 2025 and had an amazing time. We saw 8 different Orang Utans feeding. The guide was funny and informative and it was clear that everyone working there took great pride and pleasure in their job. We were lucky though as our guide did highlight that you don’t always see as many, especially in fruiting season when there is less need for the orange utans to come to the feeding stations. Location wise, I can’t really comment because we went on a coach tour but it was only about a 30 minute journey from the centre of Kuching.
Wonderful tour guide, Eng. Very informative, on time pick up. Beautiful place and we loved the orangutans!
Fabulous experience and excellent facility very lucky to to 5 Orangutangs. Best thing i have ever done would full recommend you go. We went during the fruiting season and was advised we might not see any. We waited quietly and it was not long before. The first appeared and then they just kept coming. We even managed to see a very large Orangutang and a shy 3 week baby in the tree. We caught the buggy to the feeding station and return
Stunning scenery, absolutely loved this trip. Rangers so professional and friendly,so much knowledge. Loved seeing Orangutan
This is where our Borneo tour began. We were almost a day with our guide Joana in the park. We haven't seen any orangutans in the morning. We planted a tree with the ranger, then had a private Jungles tour, were allowed to help put together the fruit for feeding, and before the park reopened we were excitedly called to the platform, yes, then the head of the gang came swung through the trees. You don't forget that anymore. We alone with the orangutans. Only later when the park was opened did visitors come. Edwin didn't come either, as did Mina. An unforgettable day that we will remember for a long time. Just great. Thank you to everyone who tries so hard.
