Itinerary
Meet your guide in front of the Marktfrauen-Brunnen (next to St. Andrew Parish Church), Hubert-Sattler-Gasse, 5020 Salzburg, Austria.
Your guide will take you to see fabulous Mirabell Palace. It’s a complex of historic residence built by prince-archbishop Wolf Dietrich with baroque pleasure gardens. This former palace now houses government offices. The gardens are where the von Trapp children sang "Do-Re-Mi" in the Sound of Music.
Your Private Guide will introduce you to local history and culture, from music to arts and beyond. Salzburg is best known as the birthplace of Mozart and you will see his former residence, birthplace, and many monuments dedicated to this great Austrian composer.
Next, see from outside where Mozart lived at the so-called then "Dance Master's House". You can explore and learn more about him in our other specially dedicated tours. Possible to visit in our other tours.
The tour is fully adapted to your needs so despite the fact that the tour itinerary doesn’t cover this attraction, it might be visited on your request. If you wish your private guide could take you there in an extended version of the tour. The transformation of this place began over 400 years ago. The masterpiece in Italian-style Baroque gem was created and put on a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The Kollegienkirche is the church of the University of Salzburg and part of the UNESCO World Heritage. Its interior will astonish you with its clean, white design and you will learn about its famous organ.
Another highlight of this extended tour will be a visit to the courtyards of a medieval monastery complex that has served as the spiritual heart of Salzburg for more than 1,000 years.
The 17th century Baroque cathedral, which stands on the site of a church built in 774, has witnessed the most important events in the city’s history. Entrance tickets are included in this tour, so you can step inside and admire its beautiful interior with stunning frescos, huge organ, and the baptismal font in which Mozart was baptized. You will also visit the cathedral museum, which houses amazing sacred art and other treasures.
With the all-inclusive skip-the-line tickets to Fortress Hohensalzburg you can take an exciting funicular ride up the hill and explore the historic castle and its museums without waiting in line at the ticket office. Your licensed Private Guide will tell you about the prince-bishops who lived here and show you their princely chambers, including the Golden Hall, Golden Chamber and Bedchamber. You will also see the treasures of the Fortress Museum, Rainer Regiment Museum, Marionette Museum and Armory.

Our guide was just superb! He shared his knowledge of history, culture, architecture, good restaurants to check out, the musical events the city is famous for, and more. We learned and saw so much, including hidden gems.
We had a wonderful experience with Elizabeth seeing and learning about Salzburg. She is very knowledgeable and kept it interesting.
Our train was 2 hours late which made us 30 mins late to tour. Kept in contact with guide, who waited, which was nice. However, we had asked if he’d meet us at our hotel “5 mins” from his location. App indicated this could have been possible and would have saved us time and energy -which we lost navigating 20 mins to his location. We were spent. He was disjointed, rushed and hard to listen to. Would have helped if he had asked what we were hoping to get out of the tour. He repeated history we’d heard before. He tried hard but was hard to follow and never did connect. Beautiful city. We want to come back and do it again in different circumstances.
Dear Charity_S, Thanks for sharing your experience with us. We regret that the tour did not leave you with the impression you had hoped for. Feedback such as yours helps us better understand our guests' expectations and improve our tours. We hope you will have the opportunity to visit again and create even more enjoyable memories in this wonderful destination. Regards, Rosotravel
Our tour guide Sabine was excellent. Very knowledgable and a great personality. Was patient with our questions and was very flexible on what to do on our tour from our POV. Got to see allot of the main sites in Avery short amount of time and easy walking.
If you want to truly understand Salzburg — not just see it — book a private walking tour with Florian. My friends and I spent hours exploring the city on foot, and it was one of the most enriching experiences of our entire trip. Florian's depth of knowledge is remarkable. He brought centuries of history to life, covering everything from the city's stunning architecture and royal monarchy to the role of religion in shaping Salzburg, Mozart's legacy, the stories behind the statues, the beautifully manicured gardens, and the grand castles that define the skyline. Nothing felt rushed or superficial — every stop came with real context and fascinating detail. What made it exceptional was Florian's storytelling. He has a rare gift for making history feel immediate and personal, and our group was genuinely hanging on every word. The private format meant we could ask questions, go deeper on topics that interested us, and experience the city at our own pace rather than being herded through with a crowd. Salzburg is a city that rewards curiosity, and Florian is exactly the guide to satisfy it. An absolute must for anyone who wants more than just a surface-level visit. Five stars without hesitation!

Maroine was outstanding. We began our time in Salzburg with his tour, and it was the perfect introduction to the city. He thoughtfully showed us all the key sights, explaining not just what we were seeing, but the history and stories behind each place. As non-German speakers, we were a bit intimidated by the language barrier at first, but Maroine immediately put us at ease. He was patient, welcoming, and generous with his knowledge—offering excellent recommendations and graciously answering all of our questions. By the end of the tour, we didn’t just feel informed—we felt confident. We walked away with a true understanding of Salzburg, a curated list of places we were excited to explore (and even revisit), and the comfort to navigate the city on our own. It was the ideal way to begin our stay.
Hi William_T, We truly appreciate your kind words. Knowing that your tour set the tone for your entire stay in Salzburg means a great deal to us. We had a nice walking tour. With husband and two sons 24 and 26. The guide - Maroine- we very knowledgeable. My error was I should have said we were most interested in history. History of the old town as opposed to the sound of music and the art and theatre. We spent a lot of time before getting to the old town and by the time we arrived there - one of my boys was very cold. He had the wrong shoes. The guide stopped for us to buy wool socks but he was already miserable. We visited the church but then we cut the tour short because my son and husband wanted to go back to our hotel to get appropriate footwear. It was 19 and standing outside not walking was just super cold. We stopped about 20 minutes early and so did not see most of the old town stops, which is our fault for not being prepared. I got the impression most groups want to see the sound of music locations and I am the only one of my family that has seen the movie. Overall it gave us some interesting facts about the city.

Your input helps us clarify expectations for future travelers. Thank you again for taking the time to review your experience. We hope to welcome you back to explore Salzburg fully under more comfortable conditions. Kind regards, Rosotravel Team
