Everyone's pretty much agreed that 'Wolds' are gentle hills. And most people agree that 'Cots' are sheep enclosures. So 'Cotswolds' probably just means an area of gentle hills with plenty of sheep around. The Cotswolds hills are criss-crossed with dry stone walls. The picturesque Cotswold landscape is completed with hidden river valleys and distinctive market towns and villages made of the famous Cotswold stone. Overall a great experience and very informative. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the United Kingdom as well as Oxford, Windsor, and Cotswolds. However, just be mindful of time because it will impact how many towns your get to see in the Cotswolds.
This was a one-day trip that could easily have taken two, but unfortunately, one is all we had. That was not a problem for our driver Kamal, who got us to every point on the tour while somehow also keeping track of us while he waited for us to enjoy each spot. He always seemed to appear just as we needed him to take us along to the next fabulous location. I know that he did not expect us to take as long as we did at Windsor castle, but he actually seemed pleased that we took our time, and still, he managed to give us ample time at all the other destinations, finishing after dark at a street fair in Oxford. It was a long and wonderful day!
This is not a tour, it is just transportation from London to those places, the driver didn’t explain nothing, you have to be more specific in the description
It is a long day with a lot of driving but Ahmed was a great driver and filled the time with interesting facts and stories. I would definitely recommend this trip to see the country side outside of the city.
Absolutely Fantastic trip. Great car and great tour guide! We enjoyed the trip to Oxford and Cotswold
This was booked as a private tour with car driver and guide. Got a car and driver. Highclere Castle inside tour was substituted for Windsor. Castle was closed to inside tour. Driver called to confirm we could get pictures outside castle. Drove 2 hours to castle to find out ground were closed as well. Total waste of time. Arrived Oxford for tour of town and colleges. Driver dropped us off on a side street where some freelance "guide" was talking to a group of 50+ people. We were told we should join that herd. The "guide" took us to a couple of libraries (not part of college), some old buildings etc., but never got into any of the colleges. THIS IS NOT A PRIVATE TOUR AND NOT WHAT I PAID FOR. Total waste of time. We next went to Cotswold where we saw some more old buildings. Didn't know the significance of what we were seeing since WE DIDN'T HAVE A GUIDE. Not worth the trip. I specifically worked with a Viator order taker to craft this tour and to insure the driver of our private car was also a guide or a guide would also accompany us. The order taker assured me all would be provided. It did not happen. If I wanted a private car and driver, I could have gotten both many other places and for considerably less money. Viator needs to learn what a PRIVATE TOUR looks like. Clearly this wasn't one.
Ahmed must be the most knowledgeable tour guide I’ve met in doing tours like this, he knows everything about the history of the area. HIGHLY recommend!
Driver was on time and safely drove us around all day. He had a lot a great information and was always willing to accommodate us. The Cotswold was the best part of the trip. Windsor is spectacular but we had seen it before. The country was delightful and the Oxford visit very informative. We had a great, great day!
My husband and I booked this private tour for ourselves and our teenage daughters (age 14). From the moment our driver, Ahmed, picked us up at out London hotel at 8 am until we returned around 8 pm, he was nothing but friendly, helpful, and accommodating. Ahmed arrived on time in a clean, spacious, and comfortable van. He had bottled water ready and available during the trip. As soon as we left the hotel, he immediately started pointing out important landmarks in London and giving us cool facts along the way. Our one hour drive to Windsor Castle went quickly as Ahmed engaged us with more highlights of London, neat tidbits, and tips for our trip. He responded patiently and politely to any and all questions. We could not believe the wealth of knowledge he had about London and its history. Upon arriving in Windsor, Ahmed first showed us the town and drove us past Eton. He also pointed out a good spot for lunch, a shopping area, and where he would pick us up after we toured Windsor Castle. He dropped us off right at the gate where we needed to enter for our timed entry and reminded us to get our audio guides inside before walking to the Castle. As a family, we toured Wiindsor Castle and St. George's Chapel, then went to lunch in town at The Prince Harry Pub - a great recommendation from our driver. We were enjoying lunch and the town of Windsor so much that we called Ahmed to ask if we could stay another hour instead of rushing off to our next stop: a walking tour of Oxford. Ahmed said absolutely, it's your trip and I am here to serve you. We were thankful to have the extra time to check out the town of Windsor without having to rush. Ahmed picked us up again at the time we requested, and we started our approx 1.5 hr drive to the Cotswolds (we chose to bypass Oxford for time). Again, Ahmed engaged us with more stories and facts throughout the drive. He suggested we stop at Bibury, Bourton-on-the-Water, and Lower Slaughter. All of these were great choices - very picturesque and quaint little villages in the Cotswolds. Again, Ahmed suggested great picture spots at each stop, knew where bathrooms were, knew what time shops closed, pointed out buildings and shops, and skillfully navigated the narrow, windy roads through the countryside - even as it got dark and rainy. We were running close on time, but he insisted we stop to see the Slaughters Manor House (from Bridgerton) since I was a fan of the show. I was so glad he suggested this last stop. I was able to recognize some of the buildings, gardens, and landscapes from the show. On the way home, we were all exhausted from a long day of touring, but Ahmed didn't miss a beat on the 2 hour, rainy drive back to our hotel. Even as we got back into London, he drove us by a few places such as the Princess Diana Memorial Fountain, Harrod's, and the Natural History Museum - all spots near our hotel he wanted to make sure we knew about. Ahmed returned us safely to our hotel around 8 pm. We cannot thank Ahmed enough for this memorable tour and the wealth of information we learned from him. Would highly recommend this tour (or any other tour with Ahmed) - you won't regret it!
