Great half-day trip if you’re short on time. We booked the 9am slot from Nelson Mandela Gateway. Ferry was smooth, bus tour around the island was informative, then the prison walk-through.
Thank you so much for your kind review!
Visiting Robben Island was heavy but unforgettable. Standing in Nelson Mandela’s cell put everything into perspective. The ferry ride was choppy, but the tour guides — some ex-political prisoners — made it real. You don’t just learn history here, you feel it. Tough day, but important. Everyone should experience it once.
Thank you for sharing such a powerful review!
The Robben Island tour was well organized from start to finish. The ferry ride, museum tour, and the chance to see Nelson Mandela’s cell were highlights. The guides are knowledgeable and passionate, and they share the story with honesty and dignity. It’s more than a tourist stop — it’s a powerful lesson in history and human spirit.

Did the Robben Island tour and it was incredible! Learned about Nelson Mandela's life, saw the limestone quarry, and soaked up the island's tough history. Guides were great too!

Thank you for sharing your experience! We're thrilled that visiting Robben Island was a dream come true for you.
A tremendous experience of seeing the jail where Nelson Mandela was for 17 years. The tour of the island is very thorough, from the narrated bus tour to the prisoner-guided section of the physical confines of the buildings. The ferry ride was smooth, and the guides are very knowledgeable and super friendly. A must-visit for anyone interested in history.
Thank you for sharing your wonderful experience!
What a great day! Visiting Robben Island was a sobering experience, yet a powerful reminder of the human spirit's capacity to overcome the most daunting challenges.
Beautiful said! We're glad you found the visit impactful.
The Robben Island tour is a MUST if you visit Cape Town. It is given by old inmates and brings to life the atrocities of apartheid. The tour gets a 5 star. The pre organised tour and driver was a rip off when we got there way too early. The entry fee was 600 ZAR ($55 AUD) per adult not from South Africa. For 2 they charged us $226 AUD. Be organised and book it yourself and get a uber or taxi there thru your hotel (less than $20 AUD) if you are unsure about walking to the waterfront to catch ferry. Tour does sell out so you need to be organised but don't do it thru a tour. Complete rip off. We didn't even get him to drive us back to our hotel as we went out for dinner after. Total waste. BUT the TOUR was AMAZING
Dear valued guest, Thank you for sharing your feedback about your Robben Island tour with us. However, we apologize if our pre-booked tour and driver service did not meet your expectations, particularly with regards to the timing and cost but at the same time we strive to offer reasonable prices. Regarding the drop-off, we apologize if there was a misunderstanding. As mentioned in our tour details, our guides/Drivers do their best to ensure that guests are returned to their hotels after the tour. Unfortunately, if guests choose to spend more time exploring the waterfront it's their responsibility to arrange their own transportation back to their hotel. We appreciate your feedback and will take it into consideration for future improvements. Best regards
