A lot of history is learnt on this tour especially with regards to the fight for freedom of South Africa. This is a tour where information is provided by people who lived the experience and not guides who had to study to acquire the necessary qualifications. The Guides here are ex-political prisoners and ex wardens who either worked or were imprisoned at the same time with political prisoners like Nelson Mandela. There are multi-layers of history which tells travelers of the ills of apartheid and how the current regime is trying to create an environment of inclusivity. Booked this tour as a business trip with colleagues just to have a nice view and speak a bit of business. I just love the ocean and so did my colleagues, tour guide who drove us here was such a chill guy, soft spoken but easy to speak to. Perfect in my opinion
Thank you for your wonderful review! We’re so pleased to hear that your tour worked perfectly for your business outing and gave you and your colleagues the chance to enjoy the beautiful ocean views while connecting. It’s great to know that your guide made the experience even more enjoyable with a calm and approachable manner—that balance is exactly what we aim for. We truly appreciate your kind words and hope to welcome you and your team again for another memorable experience.
Over priced scam! There are cheaper tours available for under $70. We were charged $200 cnd each. Our driver was late, dropped us at the ferry terminal. Then we went on our own to Robbin island where the guides are included in the ticket. Upon return the ticket included a ‘diamond museum’ the guide passed this and took us back into the car and drove us to a ‘store’ where he makes money if we buy. So we missed the museum which we paid for and lost an hour of our time. Every minute counts when you are travelling. I recommend purchasing a ticket direct from the Robbin island museum for $700 Rand ($50) which is a quarter of the price we paid. We didn’t even use the service back to our hotel, cause the tour ends in the beautiful harbour with lots of shopping and restaurants. Again, I was charged over $1400 for seven people. Not worth it!!
Excellent experience. We learned so much about apartheid and the social injustices faced by political prisoners in Robben Island. Our tour guide was very animated and knowledgable. Would recommend for singles, couples, friends and family.
Wonderful teamwork, great attitude, beautiful and nice place. Well established procedures.we enjoyed our ride to the island , I learned a lot about apartheid era and such a great experience , Remmy knows his job and We had a lovely day. The weather was right.
Ferry was cancelled but guide was not informed. Had to wait 2.5 hours for next one. No guided tour on the island as paid for. Just put on a big bus with all the other tourists. Could have just bought the ticket myself and gone over rather than pay £89! The ticket is only £27.50! Guide does not go over with you so what are you paying for?
Hi It is unfortunate that the ferry was cancelled and all parties in the business are not happy if things turn out that way. Unfortunately the weather in Cape Town is unpredictable and whenever the authorities feel there is strong winds which can endanger the lives of travelers they cancel even at a very short notice or no notice at all. Safety of the travelers comes first and no tour regardless of how good it can be is worth endangering the life's of travelers. As for the way the tour is operated there is no one who can change how it's done except Robben Island Museum authorities. It must be made clear that the way the tour is conducted is made clear on the booking platform. Indicating that by booking this tour you are well informed as to how it's done. The only other option which is there is to arrange a private tour which can only be done by Robben Island Prison Museum itself. However we sincerely apologize if things were not done according to your expectations.
A day became very short considering the good experience we had at Robin Island. It was so good seeing Mandela prison cell and the feeling being on the Island was amazin. Thank you Remi for your wonderful service.
Hi Sepi It is a pleasure and an honor to get a great review from you. We always enjoy taking travelers on this emotional tour of this iconic island. History comes alive once you set your foot there. Thanks once again.
