This was absolutely a wonderful excursion. Our tour guide Xander was so knowledgeable and courteous in all he did. If you like to see and adventure out into the culture and then finish off with a beautiful beach this is for you. The walk was a bit intimidating but everyone is so helpful. 10/10!!
Its a very informative history and view of Puerta Plata. It was a rewarding experience. The beach is absolutely gorgeous very clean and beautiful. Tour guide Jordan was AMAZING. He is quite knowledgeable, and affable. He made our visit quite comfortable. We felt safe and at ease. A wonderful young man indeed.
We booked this tour last minute and it ended up being the highlight of our cruise. I can’t fully express here what a great time we had. Xander and his crew were phenomenal. Kind, funny, knowledgeable and accommodating. Sometimes in a foreign place I am a little nervous but from start to finish we were comfortable and felt safe and in good hands. We learned about the city, saw some great sights and photo ops, and went to a beautiful beach with chairs and umbrellas. We returned with plenty of time to check out the port area and get back to our ship with time to spare. I do feel a need to mention that it’s a longish walk to get to where you meet the tour, but people can direct you along the way. I’m fluffy and not used to walking that much in that type of heat, but I made it and it was so totally worth it. I highly recommend Xander and his crew. This tour is exactly what we were looking for.

You must walk outside security gate then another 200 yds. to meet the Viator tour group. The total walk time is about 15 min. The walk was well worth it: we had a tour guide for the three of us while similar Carnival cruise was packed with 50 people.
Great tour through the city with a beautiful beach stop. Rosie was a wonderful guide and her helper and driver did a fantastic job. We felt safe touring with them and they did a great job keeping the time and getting us back to the port in plenty of time. We spent just enough time at each spot in the city. The van was nice and air conditioned and they also provided us with cold water. The restaurant at the beach had great food. A little pricier, but it is at a resort so we expected that. It was a beautiful beach and not over crowded since it was at a resort. Would definitely recommend this tour.
Rosie was great We loved the stops and to see so many iconic areas before enjoying the relaxation at sbeautiful beach. Top notch service!
Only downside was, because the Cruise Company owns Amber Cove, you have to walk outside the gates to get to non-cruise tours. It is almost half a mile, but great on a nice morning to walk off the cruise food. Xander was an energetic and informative guide. First stop was downtown at the main square. We visited the church, walked down the avenue of flags, saw the umbrella street and Pink street and other shops, with time for some shopping and hot chocolate sample. Although we don't drink, there were rum samples too for those who partake. You do need to be able to walk without assistance. We were downtown about an hour and then spent pleasant two hours at beautiful Dorado Beach - loungers provided. On the way back to the ship Xander hosted a party with music, local bananas, rum samples and slightly laced fruit punch for those who were interested.
We booked this tour through Shore Excursions because the cruise was sold out of what we wanted. The times and logistics were very easy once the ship docked and we had a nice air conditioned vehicle waiting for us with our driver, Daniel. Alex was our tour guide who grew up in Puerto Plata and is well versed in the area. The first stop was downtown to see the town center and learn some history, and see the beautiful historic church. There is time for quick shopping. Alex took us down thru Umbrella Street and Pink Street and we stopped at a chocolate and coffee shop for samples. Alex has a wealth of knowledge about the island and answered all our questions and also made it fun. The last stop was to Golden beach where there were some food options available for purchase and they provided umbrellas or beds to lay on for shade. The beach is gorgeous and it was such a great time to just sit and relax. On the way back we enjoyed some rum punch, El Presidente beer (we made a little stop) and fresh bananas from a market nearby. We had a blast and would highly recommend this again for anyone who just wants something easy and fun.
