Itinerary

10 min

The following attractions are only examples of where we can go and what Hoboken has to offer. We can certainly customize based on your preferences!

10 min

Hoboken's Waterfront offers expansive views of the Hudson River and New York City skyline, which many of our guests say are worth the trip alone. We’ll explore both the northern and southern waterfronts. Check out the photos above!

10 min

Hoboken has transformed its former industrial piers into beautiful parks and promenades, with some bars and restaurants located immediately adjacent to the southern walkway. The largest of these is Pier A Park, which extends almost 800 feet into the Hudson River and offers a unique combination of sunshine, serenity, open space, and Manhattan views. The Urban Land Institute named Pier A Park one of the top 10 urban parks in the United States.

10 min

Hoboken’s residential streetscape is defined by picturesque, tree-lined blocks of three- and four-story Greek Revival and Italianate buildings, largely built in the late 1800s. Together with its numerous sidewalk cafes (and a few cobblestone streets), we will enjoy a peaceful escape from New York City. You won’t believe you’re only a mile from Times Square!

Admission not included10 min

Hoboken is the birthplace of baseball, Frank Sinatra, and the zipper; key player in American wars, immigration, and industrialization; and former home to some of the 20th century's most advanced shipyards and factories, including Maxwell House, Lipton Tea and Tootsie Roll. We’ll discuss this history during our time together, and for guests who want to learn even more, we can stop by Hoboken’s quaint historical museum. (Please note that the museum is only open in the afternoon, and it is closed on Mondays. The $5 entry fee is not included in the tour.)

10 min

Hoboken's ferry-and-rail terminal embodies the city's past, present, and future. The Beaux Arts station was built in 1907 and served as the starting point for the first multi-unit electric train in 1930, helmed by Thomas Edison. Though often overshadowed by its New York City neighbors, it is the ninth-busiest railroad station in North America. (You'd never know it based on its quaintness.) The interior waiting room remains beautiful and creates the sensation that you've traveled back in time.

10 min

Washington Street is Hoboken’s main commercial thoroughfare, running approximately one mile (1,6km) from the very top to the very bottom of Hoboken. It is home to restaurants, bars, bagel shops, bakeries, cafes, and shops – many of which are still locally owned and operated. The American Planning Association once named it one of the “10 Great Streets in America.”

10 min

Located only two miles north of Ellis Island, Hoboken was a prominent destination for German and Irish immigrants in the 19th century and Italians and Puerto Ricans in the 20th century. Their influences remain visible in contemporary Hoboken’s delis, cafes, bakeries, restaurants, churches, festivals, social clubs, and people. Founded in 1913, Fiore’s House of Quality is among the most famous of these “original” local eateries, offering housemade mozzarella and locally famous daily sandwich specials. Guests seeking a taste of Hoboken’s old Italian-American influence love to stop here. (Fiore’s is but one example. We can stop anywhere you’d like!)

10 min

Like Fiore's, Carlo's Bakery is a Hoboken original. Founded in 1910, the shop has gained national and international acclaim since TLC created "Cake Boss" in 2009, covering the bakery's owner (Buddy Valastro Jr.) and operations. For out-of-towners seeking other well-known brands without Manhattan crowds, Hoboken also has a Shake Shack, Del Frisco’s Steakhouse, Nike Store, lululemon, and more – all within a 5-minute walk of Carlo's Bakery! (If you visit the same places in Manhattan, you will be dealing with massive tourist crowds and all the stress that comes with that. A short trip away in Hoboken, you can usually walk right in and enjoy yourself.)

10 min

Kikilu quickly shot to the top of Hoboken’s must-see (and must-taste!) attractions with our guests. The family-owned shop makes its gelato on-site and is considered the best you’ll find outside Italy. (Again, this is just one example of where we can stop!)

10 min

Along with (allegedly) having “the most bars per square mile” in the United States, Hoboken features countless bagel shops and pizzerias, creating ample opportunity for our guests to sample New York style bagels, pizza, and bacon-egg-and-cheeses (the classic American breakfast sandwich) – in this case from just across the river in New Jersey!

10 min

Stevens is a top-100 American university perched on a hill above the Hudson River. The campus includes Castle Point, which is the highest point in Hoboken. The campus offers still more spectacular views of New York City – including the Empire State Building in Midtown Manhattan, One World Trade Center (Freedom Tower) in Lower Manhattan, and the surrounding skyline. (On clear days, you can see north to the George Washington Bridge and south to the Verrazzano Bridge and Statue of Liberty.)

5 min

OPTIONAL: For guests who'd like to venture into Jersey City, we can head about half-a-mile (0,8km) south of the Hoboken Terminal to check out Newport Green Park, Newport Sand Beach, and Water's Soul by Jaume Plensa, the latter of which is an 80-foot tall sculpture at the edge of a waterfront pier in Jersey City's Newport neighborhood. (Visiting these sites in Jersey City adds about one mile of walking and can take up to 60 minutes round-trip, depending on pace and how long we stop for photos, etc. As a result, guests would be choosing to do this "side trip" in place of other, more common stops in Hoboken itself.)

Amazing time and an amazing guide

We had a fantastic time on this walking tour. Hoboken is a wonderful town and Greg was an incredible guide. He shared a ton of information and was very gracious with his time, over and above what was scheduled. I would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone who has an interest.

Charming streets, skyline views, and an easy escape from Manhattan

We had an excellent tour with Greg. We enjoyed exploring Hoboken’s waterfront, brownstones, coffee shops, stores, and bakeries. We were pleasantly surprised to see how much calm you can find so close to Manhattan. There are not many tourist sites in Hoboken, which is really the fun of going, so you need Greg to make the most of the city, guide you to the less obvious places, and share the stories behind them. We didn’t know what to expect from Hoboken but are very glad we booked this tour.

HOBOKEN - A HIDDEN GEM

My cousin and I explored Hoboken for a day, and reserved a tour with Greg. He took us on a thorough tour that included visiting some long time local family stores where we were able to sample their products, such as mozzarella, prosciutto, and others. The shops were very similar to those you would visit while in the little towns in Italy. We then moved on to the landmark transportation building, which is a hub for all public transportation to Hoboken. The walk along the waterfront was especially nice; with spaces for families to relax with playgrounds for children, a wonderful bicycle path, and beautiful views of Manhattan across the river. We learned it is a quick ride across the river by ferry from Manhattan. We walked through the waterfront campus of Steven's Institute that was busy with students. That was very interesting, as we have family members who attended Steven's so it was nice to see it. We enjoyed seeing the Frank Sinatra statue and the memorial statue from World War II. Throughout the tour Greg described in detail the history of all of these areas. We ended our tour in a local cafe and enjoyed a delicious lunch. Thanks to Greg we will return to Hoboken on foot and by bicycle!

Great private walking tour of Hoboken, definitely worth the money

I am from Latin America, now living in the US. We traveled to Hoboken from Union Square in Manhattan on the PATH train, which was much calmer and quicker than I expected, about 10 minutes and $3.25 per person via tap-and-pay (very easy, no ticket needed). The private tour (only your group) definitely makes this worth the money. It feels conversational and personalized, and you can ask whatever questions come to your mind. I found it informative and intellectually engaging, while still feeling very relaxed. Greg also makes this tour worth the money. Of course you could come to Hoboken on your own, but you would miss the stories, history, and local perspective that Greg brings, which make the experience much more interesting and memorable. This ended up being one of my favorite ways to spend a few hours outside Manhattan and gave me a new perspective on the NYC area.

Our Hoboken walking tour with Greg.

We had a 5+ hour walking tour of Hoboken with Greg on 12/17/25. It was absolutely fantastic. Neither my husband nor I had ever spent any time in Hoboken and we both fell in love with it. Greg provided such an amazing tour for us and we got a sense of the history of Hoboken. There's so much to see and do. We cannot wait to return. His energy and positivity was catching and we both found ourselves really into the walking tour and taking in as much information as we could. In fact, we would love to stay in Hoboken and explore the area more in the future. Greg was an amazing tour guide!

Excellent tour!

Greg was so kind and reached out the morning of our 2:00pm tour. I asked places to recommend for lunch and he gave me so many choices and once we decided he changed our meeting place to be more convenient to where we had lunch. We are from SoCal but I lived in Caldwell, NJ for 9 years and had no knowledge of Hoboken. Whenever we are in a new city we like to take a walking tour as we learn so much in short time and can navigate the city on our own after the tour. We were a little concerned that the tour was 3 hours but the time flew and Greg went at our pace as we are a little older. We found Hoboken to be so charming and have every intention to come back for a visit. I plan on a girls trip soon and will take this tour again with my friends. It was like walking with an old friend. We want to thank Greg for teaching us history and making us fall in love with this small but amazing city!

Perfect for NY/NJ locals with out of town guests

We live in Manhattan and are always looking for new and interesting things to do when my brother and his family visit from California. This was perfect - very easy to get to, low stress, highly customizable, and overall a really fun and engaging way to spend an afternoon. Greg was great! He was knowledgeable, friendly and energetic. He makes you feel right at home. I had been to Hoboken many times before but never realized how much there was to discover. Greg really brings the place to life. Highly recommend if you are looking for something unique and an original tourist experience!

Great tour!

Greg is an excellent guide. We started the tour on the waterfront learning all about Hoboken’s history. We finished the waterfront at Steven’s Institute with a talk about the founding family, before heading into the residential tree lined streets of town. We enjoyed great stops for food and ice cream all while passing by Frank Sinatra’s childhood home. It was also fun to see the connections between Hoboken and Jersey City. Greg is easy going, loves questions and makes the several hour tour feel much shorter. Wear comfortable shoes!
