We had a great cooking class with Lucia. The class was held at her home which had a large and roomy kitchen. Her backyard was beautiful. She gave us options of what to cook so we had input for the menu. The recipes were simple enough that we knew we could replicate at home. Her English was fantastic so we understood everything she was explaining to us. It was a lot of work and everything turned out great! Definitely recommend this cooking class with Lucia!
Lucia is a fantastic guide and host. Couldn't recommend this enough. We met at a traditional market and we were basically pointing at all the fruits, vegetables and spices asking what everything is, and she never let us down. Plus all her contacts in the market led to lots of free samples! Lucia contacted us a couple of days before the tour to send a draft menu and to check for any requests, which was a really nice touch. We then went back to her beautiful home and cooked together. Making fresh salsas, tortillas, quesadillas, mole and so much more. We had a great time. Thank you so much Lucia!
10/10. This was our favorite thing we did in the entire trip. We were a group of 5 (parents and adult kids.) Lucia was friendly, super competent, and fun to be with. The market tour was great (buy extra chiles to bring home!) and her house/kitchen were both beautiful and well-appointed. For apps, we made tortillas, sopes, and quesadillas (a fried dumpling) with chorizo, huitlacoche, cheese, beans, and squash blossoms. We also made two salsas. Main dish was chicken with a red mole; dessert was some amazing poached cactus fruit (sorry, I don't recall what it was.) Everyone had a marvelous time--it was relaxing, entertaining, and filled with good conversation. Highly recommended.
We could not be more thrilled with our experience with Lucia. She met us at the market and gave us a tour of some of the kiosks and gave insights for some of the ingredients we were going to use that day for our class. From there, she drove us to her lovely home where we spent the next 3 hours preparing our dishes. We appreciated that this was a hands-on experience. She guided and gently corrected as we prepared native dishes. (She wrote to us ahead of time to ensure that we liked her plan and made amendments based on our suggestions. ) After preparations, we sat on her lovely appointed patio and ate the fruits of our labors. If you're looking for a unique experience while visiting beautiful Mexico City, I highly recommend this. Lucia, I hope you see this: If you're ever in the Washington, DC, area, allow us to host you in our home. It's our turn to cook. Julio and Michael
We had a wonderful morning making sopas, tortillas, quesadillas, and other tasty bites. We learned new herbs and techniques. It was relaxing and informative such a beautiful place. We explored close by neighborhood for a complete day.
This was an excellent experience. Lucia was kind, informative, and fun. I learned a lot and enjoyed the delicious mole we made.
Our group of four had an amazing time with Lucia! Lucia was a clear and effective teacher for cooking delicious tacos, sopes, mole, and dessert and we returned home with new recipes and skills. We also enjoyed chatting with her about Mexican history while dining in her beautiful home. Her insights on Mexican culture, food, and history provided valuable perspective on our entire trip. She also gave us recommendations for places to visit which we enjoyed greatly. Thank you, Lucia!
Thank you so much for this wonderful review. We are thrilled to hear that your group had such an amazing time cooking with Lucia. It is fantastic that you not only learned to prepare tacos, sopes, mole, and dessert, but also returned home with new skills and confidence in the kitchen. Lucia truly loves sharing the history and cultural context behind the dishes, so she will be delighted to know that those conversations added meaningful perspective to your trip. We are also glad her local recommendations enhanced your time even further. Thank you again for choosing Traveling Spoon. We hope to welcome you back for another unforgettable culinary experience in the future.
Lucia is both an expert in Mexican gastronomy and a warm and welcoming host in her beautiful oasis of a home and garden. She and her assistant Senora Eva created a fun, interactive and delicious hands-on experience for our group of 9. Gracias Lucia!
There were 5 of us in the group for Lucia's cooking class. Lucia welcomed us warmly to her lovely home. We were all given tasks to contribute to the meal. Lucia was very organized and kept everything moving along with guidance and easy to follow instructions. Lucia also included background info on some of the ingredients we used so we all learned something new! The food we made was all delicious! We sat outside on her patio to eat the lunch we'd made and enjoyed her beautiful, lush green yard! We enjoyed the opportunity to experience something outside of the typical tourist sites and to get to know a local. Thanks you Lucia!
Excellent class! Lucia was very warm and welcoming, the ingredients were fun and the food was amazing!
