Private Half Day Tour: Zhujiajiao Water Town with Gondola Ride

Enjoy this short trip just one hour outside of Shanghai to the serene charm of Zhujiajiao ancient water town. On this 4 1/2 hour tour you'll ride a gondola beneath ancient bridges and stroll Qing dynasty streets and explore Ming and Qing dynasty architecture while diving into local shops. Along the way you'll sample local delicacies such as sticky rice dumplings (zong zi) and steamed pork wrapped in bamboo leaves (zha rou) as well as traditional Chinese candies. This tour also includes a relaxing site-filled gondola ride.

Zhujiajiao is a water town just an hour outside of Shanghai. It was established about 1,700 years ago. It features 36 stone bridges and numerous rivers line Zhujiajiao, and many ancient buildings still line the riverbanks today. The many shops nestled into the historic buildings and stone streets lined are bustling with with food vendors. Gondola rides along the canals are popular activities.

Please note: Drop off and pickup outside of central Shanghai, such as the airport, cruise terminals, railway station, Shanghai Disney Area, Qinpu, Jiading, Chuansha, or Songjiang will incur extra USD40 for whole group include pickup and dropoff. You can pay in cash (USD or RMB) directly to your guide when meeting.

I booked the Zhujiajiao Watertown with Jenny’s Shanghai Tours. Dena was my private tour guide and she was great! She is a world traveled tour guide as well and we had so much fun and so much to talk about the ride to and from and our time in the Watertown. I didn’t realize that the town was an hour away from my hotel in Shanghai, but the DiDi (like Uber) went seamlessly. I enjoyed exploring and learning about the historic town. Zhujiajiao is an incredible place and absolutely worth visiting.While something did not go exactly as planned, I would like to highlight the professionalism of Jenny’s Shanghai Tours. When an issue arose, they took responsibility and handled the situation at the highest level.
Caroline was amazing we had the most spectacular day. She showed us the gardens in the town, we went on a boat ride, fed the fish, pet cats in a Cafe, and had the best lunch. She had so much history and knowledge to share. We really feel like we are back in history in this gorgeous, ancient town. You cannot go to Shanghai and miss this, it was a 10/10 tour! We are coming back with beautiful photos, epic memories, and full bellies. Thank you Caroline!

This was my favorite village that we visited. It was so beautiful and peaceful. I wish I could have stayed there longer because it felt way too fast. Tour guide was very friendly.

Troy was an excellent guide. He was knowledgeable, kind and helpful. We saw Watertown, went on a gondola and ate a sticky rice dumpling. The next day we went to see the Jade Buda Temple, the Bund and shopping. Troy had lots of patience. Then we had a wonderful lunch. I tasted different kinds of dumplings.
