Itinerary
This private tour will take you to all the must-see sights of Athens. If you are visiting Athens for the first time, this tour provides an excellent introduction to one of the greatest cities of the ancient world. During your Acropolis visit (approx. 2 hrs) you will see:- Propylaea, - The Parthenon - Erechtheion - The Temple of Athena Nike,Looking down from the Acropolis you'll see the two ancient theaters in its shadow:- The Theater of Dionysus , the oldest Greek theater (built in the 5th century BC), - Odeon of Herod Atticus, erected in AD 161. The site hosts performances for the summer Athens Festival
The Temple of Olympian Zeus, also known as the Olympieion or Columns of the Olympian Zeus, is a former colossal temple at the center of the Greece capital Athens. It was dedicated to "Olympian" Zeus, a name originating from his position as head of the Olympian gods. Construction began in the 6th century BC during the rule of the Athenian tyrants, who envisaged building the greatest temple in the ancient world, but it was not completed until the reign of the Roman Emperor Hadrian in the 2nd century AD, some 638 years after the project had begun. During the Roman period the temple -that included 104 colossal columns- was renowned as the largest temple in Greece and housed one of the largest cult statues in the ancient world.
The Panathenaic Stadium or Kallimarmaro is a multi-purpose stadium in Athens, Greece. One of the main historic attractions of Athens,it is the only stadium in the world built entirely of marble.A stadium was built on the site of a simple racecourse by the Athenian statesman Lykourgos (Lycurgus) c. 330 BC, primarily for the Panathenaic Games. The stadium was excavated in 1869 and hosted the Zappas Olympics in 1870 and 1875. After being refurbished, it hosted the opening and closing ceremonies of the first modern Olympics in 1896. It was used for various purposes in the 20th century and was once again used as an Olympic venue in 2004. It is the finishing point for the annual Athens Classic Marathon. It is also the last venue in Greece from where the Olympic flame handover ceremony to the host nation takes place.
Lycabettus hill also known as Lycabettos, Lykabettos or Lykavittos is a Cretaceous limestone hill in Athens, Greece at 300 meters (908 feet) above sea level. Pine trees cover its base, and at its two peaks are the 19th century Chapel of St. George, a theatre, and a restaurant.
One of the most unique experiences is the changing of the guards in Athens. The presidential guards or Evzones, guard the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Hellenic Parliament building around the clock, through the coldest winter night or hottest summer day. Evzones are an elite unit of the Greek army and it is a very high honour for a Greek guard to be selected as an Evzone
The Arch of Hadrian, most commonly known in Greek as Hadrian's Gate, is a monumental gateway resembling – in some respects – a Roman triumphal arch. It has been proposed that the arch was built to celebrate the adventus (arrival) of the Roman Emperor Hadrian and to honor him for his many benefactions to the city. There were two inscriptions on the arch, facing in opposite directions, naming both Theseus and Hadrian as founders of Athens
One of the most high profile museums built in Europe in the 21st century, The New Acropolis Museum holds the historic archaeological treasures of the Acropolis of Athens. Although opened in 2009.A world-class museum of vast proportions, The New Acropolis Museum stands today as one of the most significant museums of ancient times. Offering a unique look into the past of Greece and is a must for any traveller in this age-old city.

Our driver and guide were very knowledgeable about Grecian history both Modern and from antiquity. We did not enter the Acropolis because of the crowds and had great viewing points and much more time to talk Grecian history with our guide. Highly recommended.
We had a wonderful and informative tour of Athens, learning all about the ancient history of the area and seeing so many of the new places that make Athens a unique and vibrant city. Our guide Chris was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and personable, and he sent us lots of great recommendations for restaurants and other places to see while visiting. Highly recommend!

We were very happy with the tour. Our driver, Giorgos, was very nice and gave us all the relevant information during the drive and before each stop. We found this is a great way of touring Athens as we were able to see a lot of sights with the confort of your own private guide driving you around. I would absolutely recommend this to everybody.

This service was worth every penny we paid. The streets of Athens are very confusing for a first time visitor, but our driver was an expert. He drove us to the changing of the guards and the adjacent gardens, the old Olympic Stadium, the Acropolis, the Agora, and the entry to the Temple to Zeus, delivering us safely back to our hotel. He shared knowledge of Greek history, was friendly and took care to drop us off as close to the entrance to these sites as possible. This was a perfect intro to Athens. Would highly recommend for a novice visitor to Athens.

Private 1/2 Day Ancient Agora & Acropolis with Iris…. Iris was incredible! We enjoyed our tour so very much! At dinner everyone from our 10 person group commented how much they enjoyed how she mixed the facts, with the mythology, with stories, with language, with archeology….to create beautiful pictures of how Greece has risen and fallen and risen over and over again. It was very relatable for everyone from age 14 to 76. She was also very attentive to the needs and pace of everyone involved. Thank you Dionisis for setting up the tour, start to finish! Every response was very quick and he even answered the phone immediately on the morning of the tour when we were confused about the meeting point…Ancient Agora and Roman Agora are different places, btw. Ha! Thank you to Iris for your time and knowledge today! 4 of the best hours we have spent in Athens so far!

Everything about our tour was as expected based on our conversations with the company. The driver showed up on time and we told him the adjustments we wanted to make to the standard tour and he explained how he would work them in. The driver spoke excellent English, which made our trip much more enjoyable. We saw everything we wanted to see. I would highly recommend this tour.

I worked with Dionisis in the planning stage. He was great to deal with - professional, responsive, flexible and honest. I really appreciate the real time help he gave me securing the advance tickets to the Parthenon! We were delighted by the tour Thomas gave us! Thomas met us at the airport, helped us with our bags and was very professional. The minivan was spacious, comfortable and clean. We started the tour with a visit to the Plaka area where we strolled and had some delicious coffee. Since we had timed tickets for the Parthenon, we headed over at the appropriate time. Seeing the Parthenon was our main goal of the tour and it was amazing! Thomas drove us around the city some more and it was fascinating. There was a protest of some sort going on in the city, and a couple of the places he had planned to show us were inaccessible. Thomas was very conscious of our time constraints. He seemed to feel bad that he could not show us more. We live in Chicago so we understood - getting around a big city comes with lots of surprises. He got us to our cruise ship in plenty of time and made the start of our adventures in Greece wonderful! We also appreciated the transfer service to the airport provided by Vassimo on our last day. He was prompt for our very early pickup time, helped with the bags, and the minivan was spacious and clean, with water and WiFi. It was a good thing it went so smoothly because the airport got very crowded just a half hour after we arrived. Saved us a lot of worry, as we got there early enough to skip the worst of the lines. Dionisis and both drivers were wonderful to deal with. They made the start and the end of our trip so smooth and enjoyable!
