Balatonfüred is one of the oldest tourist destinations on the shore of the “Hungarian Sea”. The “capital” of the northern coast is famous for its carbon-acid thermal spring, marina, and limitless range of recreation activities. You will have time to walk along the picturesque promenade and to do some shopping, or to swim in the lake.
Tihany is a peninsula reaching into the lake, which provides an amazing view to the whole Balaton region. Here, you will visit the most important sights of the city, like the Tihany Abbey. Walk inside the building and enjoy the beauty of its frescoes and wonderful interior. The natural sights in the area are just as beautiful as the artificial ones. Stop for a few minutes to admire the unforgettable views from the shore and take a look into the Balaton Highlands National Park.
Throughout your journey you will visit little known boutique wine terrace, north of Lake Balaton with the famous Csopak wine region. Here enjoy your delicious lunch with wine tasting.
Admire the lake from the ferry ride starting from Tihany. Make amazing photos during the 15 Minutes ride arriving to Szantod city. From here we drive you back directly to Budapest to your private address.

This tour turned out to be a total sham. My wife and I were the only customers. Our tour guide, Cathy, drove us to the lake. After 1 1/2 hours of walking around, she took us to a cheap restaurant away from the lake, where we had a pre- arranged 3 course lunch consisting of soup, fried fish, and dessert. The food was terrible. The trip advisor site says that we were supposed to have a" 3 course lunch with wine tasting at boutique winery on the terrace overlooking the lake". When we complained to the guide, her responce was that her boss did not make reservation at the winery, and, instead, she offered to buy us wine at that cheap restaurant. The "ferry ride" that the site mentions, was simply a 10 minute lake crossing on the roll on roll off boat for transporting cars accross the water. To be fare, we received a 35% refund after we contacted the tour operator, however, this does not make up for wasted full day of our vacation.
We had a great day with Attila! He was incredibly knowledgeable about...well, just about everything! It was a very hot day (40 C) and traffic was chaos leaving from and returning to Budapest, but he did not skip a beat. We learned so much, tasted (and purchased) some wonderful wine, enjoyed the local fish, and took lots of pictures. Lake Balaton is quite unique and worth visiting.
We did the full day private wine tour during our long weekend in Budapest at Christmas time. The drive takes around 1.5 hours from Budapest. Despite the cold weather we thoroughly enjoyed our trip through the countryside to Lake Balaton, the lunch at a wonderful local restaurant and the beautiful winery. Our guide Attila was a very informative with a refreshing sense of humour. It was a welcome break from city sights!
This was a perfect daytrip during our stay in Budapest. The lake Balaton area is a must, only a 1.5 hours long journey from Budapest. Our guide, Susan made her best to costumize the day according to our needs. We learned a lot about the Hungarian history and wine. The view was amazing from the restaurant during lunch time. Highly recommended.
