The drive from Cairo is 3 hours but the museum is a must for any WWII history buff! We especially liked examining all of the found tanks and cannons
This tour was absolutely superb! It was very special for me to get to El-Alamein as my grandfather fought there during the Second World War and I always wanted to visit there and see the museum and also pay my respects at the Commonwealth War Graves cemetery. My driver, guide and now my friend Mo was just brilliant. He made sure everything went smoothly, orgranised entry to the museum, took me to a great restaurant in El-Alamein and most importantly, he was a very good and safe driver. Highly recommend this tour for anyone who is interested in the military history of Egypt.
The journey was emotional but was helped by the knowledge and assistance given by our guide and our driver. The cemetery was well maintained and to see the ages of those who died was a sobering sight. Worth the journey from Cairo but it was a long day for all concerned.
Mahran drove me with great care and attention. We stopped en route for amenities and coffee. He was extremely kind and curteous to me , even offering to help me find the burial site that i was looking to visit . The journey was long but so worthwhile. Mahran was a pleasure to travel with .
The pickup was straightforward with excellent liaison with Head Office Car was in great condition, and clean Driver needed strong reminder about his speed and safety (once!) and this is important given the nature of the motorway across the desert - a long straight ribbon of tarmac is tempting... The timings were perfect, and lots of space given to explore without being fussed. This was important for me, and the Guide was a generous conversational companion The meal at the and (in Cairo) was a splendid end to the whole trip If I could have wished for one thing, it would have been to drive out the ridge overlooking the desert, but perhaps you need an M4 to do that...
We visited the site of El Alamein together with our driver Tolba who made us spend a beautiful day, is a reliable driver serious and very prepared, he met all our requests. I highly recommend it to everyone ask about him.
Maged is a great guide! They came with a nice and clean car to pick us up at home, bought some snacks which we could choose and brought us to the pyramids. There he started to explain with passion and no rush - but also not with taking to much time. Just perfect! I loved the fact that he gave us all the time we wanted at any spot and never rushed us. He has a great knowledge and a super catching way to tell it to us. Also it's a funny guy with really good english skills and on top of it he knows the best places for taking pictures and has amazing ideas how to put you and those marvelous Egyptian wonders in place. I would book him again any time - a lovely guy!!

El Alamein is a 2.5 hour drive from Cairo, if traffic is kind, the return trip is 3 hours, but it's Cairo, and traffic is never kind. The museum is small, and not particularly good. The grounds have many rusting artillery pieces and a few rusty tanks, but again, not an incredible collection, and not well cared for, or imaginatively displayed in the slightest. The commonwealth cemetery is moving, but a long way to go unless you're paying respects to someone you knew and loved. There's no real sense of the place, of the history that happened here. It will eat an entire day of your trip in the car, and unless you are related to one of the fallen, or a total history nerd like me, it's not a great day out. My guide was an Egyptologist, not a historian, and knew very little about the area, or the events. Lovely guy, but hardly the best guide to El Alamein. He made up for it by taking me for a great meal in Cairo.

This was my first trip to Egypt and I wanted to see something outside of Cairo, so as a history buff I made a last-minute decision to visit El Alamein and am glad I did. My guide Mahmoud was excellent, very knowledgeable regarding the museum and memorial parks at El Alamein and a great source of information regarding the country in general. I learned a great deal about the history, culture and politics of Egypt during the 2-3 hour car ride each direction. The driver was also excellent, very friendly and safe. The tour picked me up from my hotel exactly when scheduled, provided drinks and snacks for the car ride and lunch at the end of the day, and returned me to the hotel as scheduled. The displays and military hardware at the museum were great, actually more than I expected, and visiting the memorial parks was a moving experience. It was a long day but well worth the trip, I would definitely go again!
