Pick up from your hotel or any other location in the city of Salzburg
We leave the city of Salzburg driving south to the German boarder, your private guide will explain you the history of the city of Salzburg and how, for many years, it was a independent principality ruled by the catholic church and the importance of salt and how it influenced the growth of the city. Other points of interest will be explained on route to the next location.
On our way to Obersalzberg bus terminal we will have a couple of great picture stops. Your private guide will show you where everything was located between 1933 and 1945. Places such as the Berghof grounds, entrance to the bunkers, SS barracks and much more. After giving you a mental picture and spacial orientation of the mountain, a scale model at the bus terminal will help you understand where everything was located.
Visit the Eagle Nest with your private guide. From the Eagle’s Nest bus terminal. You will board a specially equipped mountain bus for a breath-taking ride up the 4 mile road, with its 27% incline to a rocky plateau. From there we will walk through a 406ft (124 meter) long tunnel, leading us directly to the original WWII brass elevator that will transport you up through the heart of the Kehlstein mountain for another 406ft, straight into the Eagle’s Nest itself. After a tour through the Eagle’s Nest, you will have some free time to enjoy the view or have refreshments.
Descending from Obersalzberg we continue to the beautiful Bavarian mountain town of Berchtesgaden, located in the Koenigssee River valley. You will have time to explore Berchtesgaden on your own, as well as have lunch in one of the typical Bavarian restaurants (lunch not included in price)
In the afternoon, explore the underground world of a 500 year old salt mine. Your guide will organize everything for you and an expert local guide will take you on this adventure. (Only miners are allowed to guide inside the mine)

Fantastic. Not to be missed. Salt mine tour was an unexpected highlight of our entire three-week trip across Europe from Bucharest to Salzburg.
We had a very nice driver, Luciano. He was on time and very pleasant. He spoke good English and pointed out sights along the way. We went to Eagle’s Nest, the museum then to the salt mine where we had lunch at the snack bar. The Viator itinerary stated we would visit Lake Konigsee, stop in Berchtesgaden with time to explore and possible lunch at a Bavarian restaurant. We didn’t get to do those things. Those were definitely reasons why I chose this tour.
Carlos was an excellent guide and a true professional. He knew exactly where to go, where to stand, and how to navigate the crowds efficiently, saving us a tremendous amount of time and making the entire experience much more enjoyable than it would have been on our own. He was incredibly knowledgeable, personable, and easy to spend the day with. Our family thoroughly enjoyed the Private Eagle's Nest and Salt Mines tour, and Carlos played a huge role in making it such a memorable experience. If you're considering this tour, we highly recommend it. And if you're on the fence about visiting the Salt Mines, don't be. Our family found it surprisingly entertaining and one of the highlights of the day. We were pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed it.
Michael was outstanding. Very knowledgeable, organized and insightful. Glad we had him as our guide. Would highly recommend him.
Carlos our driver was so much fun. He kept us on time, very informative, so easy and enjoyable. Would highly recommend! Would use the service again from the time we booked to the time we ended our tour it was just super easy. Did not have to think about anything. He took care of it. The sights are beautiful
Most excellent tour guide Carlos! Learned so much history amongst the sobering and breathtaking sights. Highly recommend!
Michael was a fountain of knowledge. He expertly guided us through the crowds and made our visit enjoyable and impactful.
Carlos was awesome. He gave us so much info and left time for pics. We all had so much fun!! We took so many pictures. Views were fabulous!!
Our driver was friendly, punctional & attentive to our needs and request. His past experience made the whole trip easy and and relaxing. As a history buff the Eagles Nest was my favorite part of the trip but my thirteen year old grandson loved our tour of the salt mine. We toured several countries in Europe and he said this was his favorite part of the entire sixteen day trip.
The itinerary listed Eagle’s Nest, Documentation Center, the town, and the Salt Mines. Our guide was great, but said that we could not do that itinerary. He said we could do the Documentation Center and a brief visit to the town, or we could visit the Salt Mines. He was correct — we could not have done all of these activities in the allotted time. We were disappointed that the itinerary was so inaccurate.
