Peleș Castle is a magnificent Neo-Renaissance fortress in the Carpathian Mountains near Sinaia. Built between 1873 and 1914 under King Carol I’s orders as a royal residence and hunting lodge, it blends Germanic Renaissance, Gothic Revival, and Baroque styles. The castle is surrounded by landscaped gardens and offers stunning mountain views. Inside, it has over 160 rooms, including royal apartments, libraries, and a collection of European art, sculptures, and medieval weapons. Known for its intricate woodwork, stained glass windows, and elaborate décor, Peleș reflects Romania’s royal opulence. The Royal Armoury displays a rich collection of medieval weapons. As one of Romania’s most popular attractions, Peleș Castle is a symbol of royal heritage and architectural excellence. Its picturesque location in a lush forest makes it a must-see destination in Transylvania. !!!! On Mondays and Tuesdays, Peleș Castle is closed inside. Only the gardens and exterior can be visited.
Bran Castle, often referred to as "Dracula's Castle," is a historic fortress in the Carpathian Mountains, near Brașov. Built in the 14th century, it served as a military stronghold and royal residence, guarding the mountain pass. The castle’s Gothic, Renaissance, and medieval architecture, with iconic towers and drawbridge, add to its mysterious allure. Famous for its association with Bram Stoker’s fictional character, Count Dracula, the castle features well-preserved rooms with art and furniture from its royal past, including its use in the 1920s. A great day trip out from Bucharest with the very personable and English speaking Tavi, imparting great knowledge of the history of the country and both Peles & Bran (Dracula’s) Castle, We also visited the beautiful fortified old town of Brasov where we saw spectacular views and had a traditional Romanian lunch of pork and bean broth in a bread bowl. We also had the best gelato we have ever eaten and that includes a handful of visits to Italy!

We had a full day trip with a private driver & guide, called Tavi. He was so friendly & knowledgeable. When we’re travelling for so long, it’s important to us to have a good, safe driver & a friendly one like Tavi is an absolute bonus. It was a long tour, but we had our expectations managed from the outset. We were given water in the car, a nice touch. Tavi was super knowledgeable about the places we visited & amenable to slight time & order of visit changes. Tavi hand-held us through what to expect & how to buy tickets ..I would definitely recommend this driver to anyone.

An unforgettable experience. From the first moment to the last. Octavian, a great driver, made us feel super safe the entire time; he was very polite and kind, and he ensured that we will never forget these moments. We had a great day out on this excursion. It is a long day with plenty of driving but the scenery was wonderful and the time passed quickly with our excellent guide, Roxana. A huge thanks to Octavio for making our day so special and memorable. How he shared his encyclopedic knowledge of the area with such passion and humour made the excellent tour even more enjoyable. The transportation was comfortable and spacious for eight of us "girls" (celebrating our 60th birthdays). He knew all of the clean and well serviced places to stop for breaks on the journey there and back, and constantly looked out for our safety/security. He really did add something to the overall experience, including knowing exactly where to take the best photos, and where to sit and enjoy a delicious meal while people watching.
