Itinerary
Situated just outside Udaipur, this 19th-century palace is built on top of Bansdara hills. Used as a monsoon palace and hunting lodge, its builder, Maharana Sajjan Singh, originally planned to make it an astronomical center. The plan was cancelled with Maharana Sajjan Singh's premature death. It is still an awe-inspiring sight on the Udaipur skyline and offers spectacular views of the city and the areas around.
This delightful lake, bordered by hills and woodlands, lies to the north of Lake Pichola. This artificial lake is connected to Lake Pichola by a canal. The lake houses the beautiful Nehru Island as well as an islet on which stands the Udaipur Solar Observatory. It was inaugurated by the Duke of Connaught and was initially called Connaught Bundh.

This was an amazing half day trip up the Sajjangarh fort. It was a must visit on our list for Udaipur, Rajasthan. We had already spent couple of days in Udaipur admiring the beauty and culture of this place. Visiting Monsoon palace took it up to another level. The palace is all about its views. Beautiful panoramic views. We went up to the top and enjoyed 360 look of Udaipur. Even though we missed the sunset because of the cloudy conditions, it was still amazing. It took us 15 minutes to get to the top from our hotel in Udaipur. The drive was all uphill but still smooth. Did not see a lot of traffic on our way. The tour driver was friendly and told us a few things about Udaipur. We were traveling with two little kids, so we were really happy to see Langurs as soon as we got out of our car. At first the kids were afraid but then we learnt of the Langurs friendly nature. We were told not to feed them and we followed instructions. Every now and then a family of Langurs would approach us and then climb back into the trees. It kept the kids excited. Once we got to the base of the palace, we could already see the white city of Udaipur and the surrounding green hills. Lots of people clicking selfies but the place was not crowded. We could get our photos. Then we went up the palace and now we could see 360. Again, beautiful views all around. It was a hot day but the breeze was helpful. We could see all the lakes and what makes Udaipur so beautiful. The palace was under construction and lots of places were locked inside. There was a projection room for the kids and they were running a movie on local animals of Rajasthan. A few pictures adorned the walls of the palace but really nothing of note. So we spent all our time outside admiring natural beauty. I am just taking one star away because the palace, especially when compared to city palace, was a bit disappointing but it still takes nothing away from the amazing views from the top. We now know the reason this palace was built for - just the views and the beautiful breeze. We also learnt, back in the 80s, James Bond movie was shot in this palace.
