Great Day!

Our day was a great experience. Our guide was originally from San Diego and he planned our day perfectly. We were picked up at the cruise port and drove to the farthest attraction and worked our way back towards town. Our first stop was a family owned whiskey distillery and whiskey tasting. A must do! We also visited the Chiran Kamikaze Museum (very interesting), did a leisurely stroll down the street with Samurai houses and beautiful gardens, and went to a gorgeous park full of blossoming cherry trees to see the Buddhist carvings on a stone wall. It was fun to cross the river on stepping stones (not necessary if can’t do). After picking up some Japanese snacks and a pit stop at a drug store, we were delivered back to the port. We had a day of great conversation and sight seeing. A bit pricey but highly recommend!

Nagasaki and local history tour.

Jon was the best guide we could have hoped for. Jon’s knowledge of the places he took us to was excellent. Jon took us to places often overlooked as well as a significant shrine and Nagasaki peace park and Museum. The museum was very sobering but a necessary reminder of the horror and futility of war. The communication towers and history was very interesting. Jon’s recommendations for other places to visit after we left him were highly valuable, especially the teppanyaki experience in Beppu and the war castle in Matsuyama. Jon also went out of his way to reunite me with my backpack after I left it in the van at the end of the day.

Perfect Day in Kagoshima

This was a perfect day. From the very beginning Jon was communicative and understanding. He completely understood the sensitivities of travelling with an infant and pre-planned an exceptional itinerary. Jon was extremely knowledgable and just made our visit very special. If you have a cruise stop in Kagoshima, or are visiting by land, there is no other company I would recommend. This is the place to go!

Experiencing Japan

Jon has a very welcoming personality. He is very knowledgeable about Japan since he has lived in Japan for many years and yet he could converse with us since he is from North America. Anything that we wanted to know about Japan, he would share or clarify. If he wasn't sure, he would find out and get back to us. (This didn't happen that often because he usually had the answers!) He was always concerned about everyone on the tour to make sure that their needs, concerns and desires were met. He was always available to converse with anyone in our party. Both my husband and I felt we were fortunate to have Jon as our guide.

High value, seamless private tours

Jon provided us an outstanding tour of Kagoshima that was nothing less than delightful! I can't say enough about his attention to detail. The sand baths were a treat and the included onsen make it unforgettable experience. We had opportunities to try sake and local whiskey of many varieties. I treasure the time at the Chiran Peace museum where we could see the history and the heartfelt letters of the kamikaze pilots written to their loved ones, very moving. We enjoyed a non-touristy local restaurant which was included. All transportation, logistics, requests, drinking water, umbrellas, you name it, were included, all seamless. Here is the x-factor of this tour and others he provided: Jon delivers insight into the local mindset as he has Japanese family and has lived there 20 years. To me, this was invaluable as on other tours, I could not really get a good read on many topics of interest. These may not be the least expensive tours provided, but they are worth every penny.

Awesome!

Jon took us to the sand baths, and it was so good I even went in the onsen. Something I would have never done and something I hadn't done after many visits to Japan. It was just Jon and Shannon's "vibe" that gave me the confidence to do it. We also went to the Kamakaze museum. We were on a cruise and the others who went with the ship tour complained they didn't have enough time. We had enough time and even enough time to shop. I have done other cities with Jon, and have atempted to see the Meiko in Gion. Never saw them but with Jon and Dion my whole group saw them and different groups. Maybe they are just good luck charms.

Operator response

Thank you so much for the kind words and for traveling with us again! We're really happy to hear that you had a great time at the sand baths—and even stepped into the onsen! That means a lot, especially knowing it was something you'd never done before. It was a pleasure to share those experiences with you and Shannon. We're also glad the Kamikaze museum and shopping time worked out well—private tours really do give you that extra freedom. And yes, spotting Meiko in Gion isn’t easy, but I guess we’ll take the “good luck charm” title with a smile!
