Excellent apart from the venues being closed.

The trip was good but the long journey there and back wasn't expected, the guide and driver were very good especially the driver who saved us from having a serious accident. Some of venues we were due to visit were sadly closed which spoilt the trip.Though my wife liked the included meal I didn't think it was very good.

Disaster of a Day. Do not recommend!

We were inclined to book this tour based on the great reviews. We were so excited ro see Santo Domingo. However, the execution can only be described as a disaster: and we aren't sure how there are any positive reviews. Let's start with the booking process. When we booked months in advance, it was listed as a group tour. However, we noticed it changed to a private tour on the site a couple months before our trip and the rate had more than doubled. We reached out to the provider for clarification and never heard back until the night before our scheduled tour with a message that made no sense- was it or wasn't it a private tour, but the price remained the same. They also indicated a pick up time of 715. Next day they never showed up. We reached out to viator and they attempted to get in contact with the tour company to no avail. Eventually someone showed up over an hour late and we had trouble explaining to him how to get through the resorts security. Once we were loaded up, we arrived at a gas station for a handover to another driver, who explained that we had missed the bus and they were going to drive us to our group in Santo Domingo. During the ride we had two pickups of other people on the side of the road and a couple of random gas station stops where our driver left to chat with friends. We finally arrived at Tres Ojos, which was not the first stop on our itinerary per the initial booking we made. We were handed over to a Spanish speaking group wherein we requested english. Finally we were handed over again to another group which was allegedly a bilingual tour. But if the guide had any semblance of a command of English, I'm the Pope. He was nice but we couldn't understand him. Fast forward we go through various locations, again, not able to discern what the guide was saying. And for the record, there were four other English speakers who complained they couldn't understand him either. Lunch was fine for what it was. We took several absurdly long souvenir shop stops instead of exploring historical Santo Domingo. On the ride home, we were switched to another group for the ride back to Punta Cana. Another absurdly long stop at a gas station, and on we went. And then suddenly our driver stopped at a resort and had us get in with another driver. It was a complete waste of a day, not what we paid for, not in the language we requested, and oh yeah, they never provided any water which explicitly stated in our booking. Horrible experience, and we don't even know if we were in the right tour from the beginning. If picking up in Uvero Beach is such a problem, then they shouldn't offer the tour for folks there. If I could give ZERO stars I would. Honestly the best part of the day was making back to the resort alive. Awful communication all around.

Operator response

Dear Customer, We are sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations; however, it is important to clarify several points mentioned in your review. You booked a shared (group) tour, not a private service. This type of excursion naturally involves coordination with other guests, possible logistical adjustments, vehicle changes, and flexible pickup times depending on routes and traffic conditions. The price you paid corresponds to this shared service, which differs significantly from a private, exclusive experience. Regarding transportation, it is standard practice in shared tours to organize transfers between vehicles or groups in order to optimize logistics, especially when pickups take place in more remote areas such as Uvero Alto. This is not an error, but rather part of the normal operation of this type of service. As for the language, the tour is described as bilingual, meaning the guide may alternate between Spanish and English. It does not guarantee a fully English-only experience or the level of personalized attention that a private tour would provide. Concerning the itinerary, the order of visits may vary due to operational reasons, traffic, or group coordination, without affecting the overall content of the tour. We understand your frustration; however, your complaint reflects expectations aligned with a private service, which was not the product you selected. For future experiences, we recommend booking a private tour if you are seeking strict punctuality, exclusive attention, and a guide fully dedicated to your language. Kind regards,

It was a great trip that allowed us to learn a lot about the history of the Dominican Republic in its capital city. Tres Ojos was a natural gem right inside the city.

A fantastic way to visit Santo Domingo!

As part of our first visit to DR, we wanted to ensure that we had experiences outside the resort in Punta Cana-da. This day trip to Santo Domingo with a stop in La Romana (extra fee to customize) was our favourite on the trip. Our guide Ramon Sanchez and driver Alex Daniel were fantastic! Both very knowledgeable of their country, its history and culture. Would highly recommend to enjoy a tour that makes you feel like friends are showing you around!

Operator response

It was decent for the price.

Really nice safe on time driver but had to pay $50 for a tour guide. He was nice too but was not expecting the extra cost. I think we could have said no thanks but wanted to have someone point out interesting facts, his English was not good and did not understand our questions and would repeat where we’re seeing next. It was a little aggravating but he was no nice I feel bad saying it was disappointing. . The cave was beautiful & amazing ,the city was interesting but it was carnival season on a Sunday so a lot of streets were closed making it difficult to get around. The food at the restaurant was good.

Operator response

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experience with us. We’re happy to hear that you felt safe and well taken care of by your driver, and that you enjoyed the cave, the city, and the restaurant. It’s also wonderful to know you found the cave beautiful and amazing — it truly is a special place. We sincerely apologize for the misunderstanding regarding the additional $50 tour guide fee. We understand how unexpected costs can be frustrating, and we will review how we communicate optional services to ensure everything is clearly explained in advance. Regarding the guide’s English level, we truly appreciate your honest feedback. While he is very kind and knowledgeable, we understand that clear communication is essential for a fully enjoyable experience. We will continue working on improving our language services to better meet our guests’ expectations. Carnival season can certainly make navigating the city more challenging due to street closures, but it also brings a unique cultural atmosphere. We appreciate your understanding during this busy time. Thank you again for your balanced and thoughtful review. We hope to welcome you again in the future and provide you with an even better experience.
