Itinerary

1 min

Pickup in Bergen (Hotel or Airbnb) Your day starts the easy way: we pick you up wherever you stay in central Bergen. No meeting-point stress, no taxis, no guessing. You just step outside and we take care of the rest.

15 min

Boarding & “the fjord becomes private” This is where the day flips from car transfer / sightseeing to real fjord immersion. We board our specially built Pontoon / Zodiac, designed for efficiency and a light footprint, and head into a fjord area that stays remarkably untouched because very few people ever reach it. Think: fewer crowds, more silence, more “how is this real?” moments.

15 min

Twin waterfall from the sea The fjord bends, the cliffs rise, and suddenly a twin waterfall drops straight into the water from high above. From land it’s impressive. From the sea, with the sound bouncing between rock walls, it feels like you’ve stumbled into a hidden amphitheater built by nature.

15 min

The roadless fjord arm. Now we enter the secret ingredient: Veafjorden. A narrow, dramatic fjord arm with towering cliffs and emerald water, and almost no signs of modern life. No highway noise. No tour-bus rhythm. Just the kind of scenery most travelers never see because there’s simply no road to follow. This is the stop that turns “nice fjord tour” into “best day of the entire trip”.

15 min

At Stamnes village you have the photo opportunity of a real Viking ship and can see the "Brørvikskuto" which is built upon shipbuilder traditions that stretch over 1200 years back. At the very same time you are in the very cradle of the Norwegian Salmon heritage that has led to the export of Norwegian farmed salmon that finds its way to all corners of the world. Listen to how it all happened from the smiling skipper.

10 min

8,000 years of human story This is where your fjord day gains depth. Skipshelleren is an ancient Stone Age site where humans lived thousands of years before Norway was even a thought. You’re not just looking at scenery anymore. You’re stepping into a timeline that stretches back 8,000 years. Quiet. Powerful. Unforgettable.

5 min

The fjord’s heartbeat in motion. A narrow outlet. A sudden surge. The fjord literally moves here. Bolstadstraumen is one of the strongest tidal currents in the region, and you feel the energy in the water as it funnels through like the fjord is breathing. It’s a short stop, but it hits hard, because it’s raw nature, up close.

10 min

Final landing + scenic return by Train or Car We land in a small rural fjord village where the water meets the Vosso River, home to legendary Atlantic salmon. Then, instead of retracing the same route back, your day ends the smart way: A one-way scenic return to Bergen by train (or private vehicle depending on timing). You get fjord views from a new angle and a calm, beautiful landing back in the city. No repetitive “same fjord twice” ride. Just a complete story from start to finish.

Pass by

Bergen Railway Station (Final stop in the heart of the city) Your return ends at Bergen Railway Station, right in the center of Bergen. From here, you’re only minutes away from the city’s most central hotels and the cruise port. If you have luggage or prefer not to walk, taxis are always waiting right outside for a quick and easy ride.

Pickup Locations & Times

SEASONAL PICKUP DETAILS (Mar 17 – Oct 1, 2026) To maximize your time in the most scenic part of the fjord, this experience begins with a relaxed and scenic transfer (private car or train) from Bergen city center to our quiet boarding area (approx. 55–60 minutes). Upon arrival, you’ll change into thermal flotation suits designed to keep you warm, comfortable, and fully at ease before boarding. From there, the experience is carefully designed around one core principle: comfort without compromise. We operate with both pontoon boats and rigid inflatable boats (RIB/Zodiac), always selecting the setup that best fits the weather and your group: Pontoon boat: slow-paced, extremely stable, with luxury reclining chairs — ideal for those who want to relax, enjoy the scenery, and stay fully comfortable throughout the journey RIB/Zodiac: more dynamic, but still operated at a controlled cruising speed (~23 knots) to reduce impact, wind exposure, and fatigue Unlike many high-speed boat tours where guests must remain seated on saddle-style seats or brace themselves against waves, this experience allows you to sit comfortably with full back support at all times. There is no need to stand, hold on tightly, or absorb constant impact — instead, you can stay present, warm, and fully immersed in the fjord landscape. This makes the tour particularly well suited for: Couples and private groups seeking a more refined experience Travelers who value comfort over adrenaline Guests who want to explore deeper into the fjords without physical strain While some tours focus on speed and intensity, this experience focuses on comfort, stability, and depth of experience — allowing you to see more, feel more, and enjoy more without distraction. At the end of your fjord experience, you’ll return to Bergen via a scenic one-way journey, including a short 6–8 minute walk to the train station for the Fjord Train back to the city. Departure direction (morning vs noon): Morning departure: starts with private car from Bergen, returns by scenic train Noon departure: starts with the train from Bergen Station to Bolstad, returns by private car Group size & boats: Each boat accommodates up to 12 travelers. For larger groups, multiple boats can be arranged upon request. We always choose the setup that ensures the most comfortable and enjoyable experience for your specific group and the day’s conditions.

Fair and accommodating

While I ended up not doing this adventure, I do want to rate my experience. I inadvertently booked the boat completely to myself which was outside my budget. While I was working to correct it, they had received the reservation and quickly got to work reserving rides, train tickets and moving the boat from Bergen to where the tour actually starts. They invested time and money assuming it was a viable booking. The next morning when all the communications made their way to the right people, they were faced with maintaining the nonrefund policy. They worked with me toward a fair solution and refunded the majority of the payment while understandably asked to be compensated for the time, effort and money they invested. We came to a good compromise. They were very friendly throughout the process. My only regret was not being able to go! Next time :)

Amazingly beautiful and fun boat ride!

Our family of 4 (two kids ages 11 and 14) had a wonderful time with Bjorn in the fjords. The gear that was given to us kept us warm. There were many things to love including the exhilarating ( although completely safe) speed of the boat, the majestic scenery, and Bjorn’s descriptive commentary. He really kept the whole family engaged for the entire excursion. We would highly recommend it to anyone even slightly considering this!

A truly cheerful day to remember!

We spent a wonderful and cheerful day on Bjørn’s boat, sightseeing some spectacular places. The atmosphere on board was great, perhaps due to the boat being the perfect size for a smaller group. We had a fantastic time enjoying the beautiful local nature, meeting other travellers, and combining the experience with a delicious lunch served out on the water at Bjørn’s hidden gem.

Operator response

Thank you so much for this lovely review. I’m very glad the day felt cheerful and easygoing onboard. That atmosphere is exactly what I hope for on these tours, especially when a small group comes together in the right way. The pontoon boat has a size and rhythm that makes conversation natural, while still giving everyone space to enjoy the fjord, the silence and the scenery. I’m also happy you enjoyed the lunch stop at my little hidden gem out on the water. For me, that place adds something different to the experience. It gives the tour a pause, a chance to sit down, share food, look around and feel that we are not just passing through the fjord, but actually spending time in it. Thank you again for joining us, for bringing such good energy onboard, and for sharing your experience with future travelers. Bjørn

Family-friendly. Make memories for a lifetime!

Bjorn has designed this tour with great thought and care. It is well-paced and so informative! We did this amazing experience with our kids age (6-11). At first our youngest was trepidatious, but Bjorn reassured her and she had a blast. We did this tour some days ago, and all three kids have raved about it fondly every day since then. The fjords themselves are so majestic and mind-blowing, but having someone like Bjorn take you into the geology/history/sociology of the area gives you a next-level appreciation of this magical place. Highly recommend.

Once in a Lifetime Experience

The fjord pontoon boat tour with Bjørn was, without a doubt, the highlight of me and my friend’s trip to Norway. If I could recommend only one activity to anyone visiting Norway, it would be this tour. Amelia picked us up right on time, and the drive to the boat was enjoyable in itself. She shared fascinating insights about life in Norway, which made the journey both informative and entertaining. Bjørn was our guide, and he was exceptional. We were fortunate to have beautiful weather, so the thermal suits were not necessary. His knowledge of Norway’s history and the fjords was impressive, and he presented it in a way that was both engaging and easy to follow. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking, and the entire experience exceeded our expectations. I honestly can’t imagine taking any other fjord tour, and that is largely due to Bjørn’s incredible personality, passion, and expertise. Words cannot adequately describe how amazing this experience was. If I had the opportunity to do this trip all over again, I would sign up for this tour without hesitation—time and time again.

Operator response

Haley, thank you so much for this incredible review. What makes your words especially meaningful to me is the story behind the booking. A friend of yours had already taken this tour and told you that if you were going to do just one thing in Bergen, it should be the fjord tour with Bjørn. That kind of recommendation is something I never take lightly. It means the experience has traveled from one person to another, not through advertising, but through memory. I’m also very happy to hear that Amelia made the drive enjoyable. The journey to the boat is part of the experience, and having someone who can share real insight into life in Norway before you even reach the fjord adds a lot. As for the boat tour itself, what I try to do is never simply repeat the same script. Every group has its own energy, curiosity and rhythm, and my job is to read that and shape the stories around the people in front of me. Some guests lean into history, some into culture, some into humor, some into silence, and some into all of it at once. That is what I think makes a private tour truly private: not only your own boat, but your own version of the story. I’m deeply grateful that the day became the highlight of your Norway trip. The fjord gave us beautiful weather, but you and your friend brought the kind of openness and good energy that makes guiding feel effortless. Thank you again for trusting your friend’s recommendation, and for passing the experience forward with such generous words. – Bjørn

We were on a fjord tour...

We were on a fjord tour this weekend, and it was a really great experience. The tour went through amazing western nature with beautiful fjords and beautiful surroundings all the way. The guide was very knowledgeable and told many interesting stories and facts along the way. At the same time, he had a good dose of humor and was not afraid to draw a joke in new and new, which made the trip both educational and entertaining. The boat was very comfortable, stable and spacious, with good seats and space for nine people. It made the trip feel relaxed and comfortable from start to finish. There was also time for lunch in a barbecue cabin that is located in the middle of the fjord. This is a trip I can really recommend to anyone who wants to experience the fjords in a personal, relaxed and enjoyable way. I stay with many good memories and will be happy to come back on a later occasion. 😊🚤🏔️

Create a memory you won’t forget

What an amazing magical experience! Definitely a 10/10! I have nothing negative to say about our tour and I’ll definitely make an effort to get back to Norway and to book another private fjord tour! Thanks guys for such a memorable time!

Operator response

Thank you so much for this wonderful review! A “10/10” and “a memory you won’t forget” is exactly the kind of feedback that makes all the hard work worthwhile. I’m truly glad the fjord experience became such a special part of your time in Norway. We would be very happy to welcome you back for another private fjord tour one day. The fjords are never quite the same twice — different weather, different light, different mood — and that is part of what makes this place so alive. Thank you again for choosing to travel with us, and for sharing your experience so generously. – Bjørn & the team

Miserable weather, AMAZING tour.

Absolutely worth every penny! I will start by saying the weather was pretty miserable when we took our tour. However, when a place has more than 200 days of rain you don’t really expect it to be sunny like the pictures. We were picked up at our hotel and driven to a site outside of town to start the tour which was lovely and much better than starting in town. Bjorn had everything prepared including warm vests, body suits and rain jackets, when we arrived and suited up and went out. There was a bit more fog than we expected but it gave everything a very mystical appearance and was still breathtaking in its own way. Bjorn was happy, energetic and very informative. The clothing given was immensely helpful and kept us very warm minus our feet because we were not smart enough to bring waterproof shoes (except my husband!). Minus seeing one other small boat with a biologist in it, we were the only one’s on the water which made it even more amazing. The boat is smaller so he could go places bigger tour boats could never do and you get to see so much isolated beauty. Such a great day and everyone loved it. Would 100% recommend this tour if you are in Bergen!

Operator response

Thank you so much for this fantastic and honest review. You captured something very important about this part of Norway: the fjords do not need perfect weather to be beautiful. Sunshine is wonderful, of course, but fog, rain and low clouds can give the landscape a completely different kind of magic. More quiet, more mysterious, and often even more memorable. I’m really glad the warm gear, flotation suits, heated vests and rain jackets helped keep everyone comfortable. Out here, being properly dressed is what allows you to relax and enjoy the experience instead of fighting the weather. Feet are always the tricky part, though, so your waterproof-shoe lesson is a useful one for future guests! What makes this tour special to me is exactly what you described: leaving Bergen behind, starting from a quieter place outside the city, and entering fjords where we can often travel for hours without seeing anyone else on the water. A small boat lets us explore hidden corners that the larger boats simply cannot reach, and I’m grateful you felt the value of that. Thank you again for choosing this private fjord experience, even on a rainy day. It was a real pleasure having you onboard. – Bjørn

10/10 safe, friendly, well coordinated adventure

I took this trip with my friends (all women!) and we had a great time. Bjorn was a great story teller and excellent driver. We very much enjoyed being picked up from Bergen and not having to deal with travel to or from. This was a very special experience that I would recommend to any one who loves nature and wants to see Norway from the water.

This is the Fjord trip you want! Not the touristy big boat trips. Totally worth the money!

We took two fjord tours - one on a bigger boat combined with the Flam railway and this tour, private, on a zodiac pontoon boat. NO comparison. This one is full of interesting information, access to fjords you’ll never see on a big boat, and unique experiences like seeing salmon fishing up close or peering down through the water to an actual shipwreck from 400 years ago. If you really want to see and learn about fjords - this is the tour! Highlight of our entire trip!

Operator response

Thank you so much for this incredible review. What makes your perspective especially valuable is that you experienced both worlds — the large-scale fjord tourism and the small, private local alternative. I’m truly glad you felt the difference. Big boats can absolutely show the grandeur of Norway, but a small private boat allows you to actually enter the fjord, slow down, and discover the details and hidden stories that most travelers never get close to. Moments like watching salmon move beneath the surface or looking down at the remains of a 400-year-old shipwreck are difficult to plan for — they simply happen naturally when you have the flexibility and intimacy of a small local experience. Hearing that this became the highlight of your entire trip means more than you know. Thank you again for choosing to explore my home fjords this way. – Bjørn
