Tour Options
Itinerary
You will be greeted directly at Zeebrugge cruise port shortly after your ship docks and shown to your private vehicle with a professional driver. From there, you will enjoy a comfortable drive to the medieval city of Bruges (approximately 30 minutes).
Upon arrival in Bruges, you will meet your professional English-speaking local guide near the historic city center to begin your walking tour. Starting at Bargeplein, the route takes you through the beautiful Minnewater Park, where you will pause at the famous “Lake of Love,” one of Bruges’s most romantic spots. Continue past the historic Begijnhof Bridge (Begijnhofbrug), leading into the UNESCO-listed Beguinage, where you can stroll through the peaceful courtyard, admire the traditional whitewashed houses, and take photos of this serene medieval setting once home to a community of religious women. The walking route is mostly flat but includes cobblestone streets, so comfortable shoes are recommended. Please note that this tour is not suitable for guests with mobility challenges.
The Gruuthusemuseum is a beautiful landmark to pass by, with its elegant medieval architecture, charming windows, and peaceful setting along the canals. It was home to The Gruuthuse family, one of the most powerful and influential families in the city.
This is the view everyone comes to Bruges for: gothic facades, willows draping over canals, and the belfry reflected in still water. Pause for a photo or simply take in the beauty of the city’s most photographed location.
As you arrive at Bruges’s historic Market Square, you’ll find yourself surrounded by colorful guild houses, lively cafés, and the city’s impressive medieval atmosphere. Towering above the square stands the famous Belfry Tower, one of Bruges’s most iconic landmarks and a symbol of the city’s former wealth and power. Nearby, you will also visit the Basilica of the Holy Blood, a beautiful historic church best known for housing a revered relic believed to contain the blood of Jesus Christ.
The walking tour concludes in the heart of Bruges at the historic Market Square, where you will have approximately 60-80 minutes of free time to enjoy the city at your own pace. Whether you choose to try famous Belgian fries, sip a local beer, browse the nearby chocolate shops, or simply relax and soak in the medieval atmosphere, Market Square is the perfect place to enjoy your free time. At this point, your guide will say goodbye and clearly explain where and when to meet your return transportation back to the ship. Alternatively, you may choose to replace part of your free time with a 30-minute canal cruise (plus ~15 minutes boarding time). Canal tickets can be selected during the booking process.
You may choose to include a 30-minute canal cruise and experience Bruges from a completely different perspective as you glide through the city’s picturesque canals, passing historic bridges, charming facades, and hidden corners only visible from the water. A canal ride is considered one of the classic Bruges experiences and a wonderful way to take in the city’s unique atmosphere. Please note that if you chose this option (can be selected during the booking process), canal tickets are pre-arranged for you. Boats are shared with the general public. Approximate waiting times of 15–20 minutes may occur depending on crowds.. Guests choosing the canal cruise will have reduced free time in the city. If you choose to purchase canal tickets directly on site, we recommend going to the ticket window at the beginning of your free time to increase your chances of securing a spot, as ticket availability on the day cannot be guaranteed.
At the end of your time in Bruges, return to your private vehicle for a comfortable transfer back to Zeebrugge cruise terminal with plenty of time before your ship’s departure. Before saying goodbye after the guided walk, your guide will clearly explain the exact meeting point and meeting time for your return transfer. The guide will not accompany you during the return drive back to the port.

Yves was an amazing guide! It's not often you meet someone who is as passionate about their work as he is. He brought the history of Bruges to life, explaining everything from its medieval beginnings to modern times in a way that was engaging, easy to understand, and truly memorable. We were on a 12-day cruise, and without a doubt, Yves' tour was the highlight of our entire trip. His knowledge, enthusiasm, and storytelling made Bruges an unforgettable experience. Thank you again, Yves, for an outstanding tour. We highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Bruges!
Dear Austin, thank you so much for your wonderful review. We’re delighted to hear that Yves made Bruges’ history come alive for you in a way that felt engaging and truly memorable. Knowing that his tour became the highlight of your cruise means a lot to us. We hope to welcome you back to Europe again one day.
Unfortunately, the schedule was not followed. Although the guides were knowledgeable and friendly, they dragged their talks too long. We only have 20 mins in the Market Square in Brugge. The schedule stated 60 mins at the Basilica of Holy Blood, the guide just lo pointed the church to us. Meeting place to reconvene was not clear. We ended up waiting for others but they were already in the coach.
Dear Lanie, Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We are truly sorry to hear that the schedule was not followed as expected during your tour of Ghent and Bruges. We understand how important it is to have clear meeting points and sufficient time at each location, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this caused. Please be assured that we are addressing this matter directly with the guide to ensure it does not happen again. Your comments are very valuable to us, and we will work to improve the experience for all future guests. We are glad to know you found the guides knowledgeable and friendly, and we hope you will consider joining us again in the future for a smoother experience. Best regards, Natalia Vexperio
We had a wonderful day with our guide Patrick. He kept the tour engaging with fun stories and information as well as treating us to some chocolate and beer! The canal tour is absolutely worth it—informative, fun, and one of the best ways to truly experience Bruges.
Our cruise arrived to port late--but no worries!! The tour company tracked our arrival, and was in pre-emptive communication with us about pick up and itinerary adjustments. Extremely proactive communication, and we knew exactly what to expect. We had a group of 12 (yes 12) and our tour guide, Wilm, might be one of my favorite ever. He is clearly passionate about the history of Bruges, and took us to all the points of interest. His commentary was knowledgeable and quite funny. We enjoyed his personality quite a bit. We wished we had had some additional time in Bruges to explore on our own, but since our cruise was late to port, we had to omit that part of the tour. I would highly recommend this tour.
Avoid this tour at least with the guides we were given. Poor direction, leadership over the group and no attention to the needs of the group. Difficult to understand. One bathroom break in the beginning and none later without attitude . Late morning departure and he complained the entire tour that’s why he needed to rush us. We were there on time Very grumpy guide. Easily irritated. The Guide were late to final meeting point. He told us to be there 15 minutes before his planned time to leave but he was late and other members were late or couldn’t keep up with his fast pace. He gave us a false rime to gather when he and the other guide were late. Leaving us no time to eat or shop. I’ve never had a Viator experience like this. Wished we would have just did our own tour without this guide. At the end the guide had no idea where our bus was wasting 20 plus minutes, the other guide finally found our bus did but they did not communicate. The guides finally loaded us on the bus and did not join us instead exited the bus not saying goodbye and leaving us with the driver who did not speak English. The guides left walking off with each other. Horrible experience. I would like my time in Bruges back which I cannot get and my money back!
Dear Debra, We are very sorry to hear about your disappointing experience in Bruges. The behavior you described from the guide is unacceptable and does not reflect the standards we expect. We have already decided to stop working with this guide to ensure this does not happen again. Bathroom breaks are part of the tour, and we encourage guests to let the guide know whenever one is needed so arrangements can be made. Regarding the departure, we began the tour at 8:10 AM as we were assisting some guests who were lost in the port, but this should not have created any reason to rush the tour. We truly regret that your day in Bruges was affected in this way. Please rest assured that we are taking immediate steps to prevent such situations in the future. Sincerely, Natalia Vexperio
Very informative, worth what we pay, nice walking tour, they gave us a chocolate treat and Belgian beer, nice churches!
Have been on MANY tours and this was a total waste of money. We were late leaving the port so had to literally almost run to catch up. Could not understand the guides English and his attitude was horrible. We were supposed to have 1 1/2 hr to eat and explore and had 20 minutes. Our guide was late to meeting point and had no idea where our bus was for the return to the ship which cost us another 30 minutes. Have used VIATOR many times. If this had been my first experience with VIATOR would never book with them again
Dear Guest, I am very sorry to hear about your disappointing experience on our Bruges excursion. What you described regarding the guide’s attitude, poor communication, and the lack of time to properly enjoy Bruges is unacceptable and far below the standard we expect from our tours. We completely understand your frustration, especially since your time ashore is limited and valuable. The guide’s behavior has already been addressed, and we will no longer be working with him. The delay in departure from the port was due to assisting some lost passengers, but this should never have led to you feeling rushed or deprived of the free time promised. The confusion with the meeting point and bus at the end of the tour was equally unacceptable, and I sincerely apologize for the stress this caused. Please know we are taking immediate steps to ensure this situation never repeats itself. We deeply regret that your experience in Bruges was affected in this way, especially as a loyal Viator traveler. Warm regards, Natalia Vexperio
Our guide Patrick was amazing. So much history to share and he was so knowledgeable and patient with questions. And the “surprise” treats of chocolate and beer were a great extra. Would recommend to anyone interested in the history as well as the shopping and food experiences.
Had a wonderful day with Patrick and Steve is the bus driver We learned all about the city and history How the language evolved Saw everything we were hoping to see great time
Get your walking/running shoes on. There is a lot to see, but, walking on cobblestones can be challenging to those with balance issues. We wished we had more than 30 minutes on the canal ride. There was so much more to explore, so plan to go back in the future. Don’t forget this is the place for beer and chocolate lovers
Dear Asa, Thank you so much for your kind words and for sharing your experience in Bruges — it truly is a storybook town! We’re glad to hear you enjoyed exploring the city and experiencing the canal cruise. We’d just like to mention that in the tour instructions we send out one week before the trip, we do include details about walking on cobblestones as well as the duration of the canal ride (30 minutes). That way, guests can plan and prepare comfortably in advance. We also understand that much of your review reflects the charm (and challenges!) of Bruges itself rather than the service provided, and we’re happy we could deliver exactly what was promised in the itinerary. We hope to welcome you back again — and perhaps next time you’ll have even more time to enjoy Bruges’ chocolate, beer, and canals! Warm regards, Natalia Vexperio
